I'd be interested in what settings to use to get a 720p stream at that low of an upload. My current upload is between 0.80 and 0.83 depending on server (Different servers in London)

Hi,
Some people said, OBS is better than XSplit about CPU usage, it's correct?
If it is, I would like to switch my live broadcast to OBS, here my OBS settings :
- Quality Balance: 5
- Max Bitrate (kb/s): 650
- Buffer Size (kbit): 650
- Base Resolution: 1920 x 1080
- Resolution Downscale: 1.50 (1280 x 720)
- FPS: 30

About my computer :
- AMD Phenom II X4 955 (3.20GHz)
- HD 6870
- 8Go

About my Internet connection :
- 25 to 30 Mb/s Down
- 0.8 to 1 Mb/s Up

Do you think I correctly configured OBS for my settings?
Maybe I can have a better settings (or not )
Thanks for your help.

Am I right in that Aero should be on for Window capture in OBS with Windows 7? For StarCraft 2.

I just switched from XSplit and I remember R1CH posting something about Aero adding mouse frameskipping/delay for screen-region there so I always had it off.

I really don't want any mousedelay or anything in SC2 and Gamecapture was laggy for me is why I'm asking.

Also, since the 32-bit OBS is required for scene switcher to work, there's no issue in using that on a 64-bit Windows right?

Comp: 3570k // GTX670 // Windows 7-64bit.
Settings: 1920x1080p // 30fps // 2500k bitrate

32bit OBS works fine in 64bit Windows. If you care, there's a general scene switcher (works for anything, not just SC2) that works with 32bit and 64bit OBS here http://obsproject.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1785

Basically yeah, you want Aero enabled. I don't think it makes much difference with performance, but Window Capture will ONLY capture the specified window if Aero is enabled; if it's disabled, it will capture any other windows that may end up on top of the captured window (If you only have 1 monitor and you minimize to read your chat, your chat window will be visible to the stream if Aero is disabled, invisible if Aero is enabled).

Game Capture really shouldn't be laggy for you though. It's the best capture method, performance-wise.

Thanks z0rz for answering all my questions . I felt that the image was a bit crisper with window capture and the performance was a bit more stable. Looks good too, I would have never been able to achieve this with XSplit.

has anyone had any luck with streaming Half Life 2 in a game capture? It just pulls up a black screen for me. Monitor capture is fine, of course.

EDIT: Figured it out thanks to some help from the IRC channel.

I've noticed since I started streaming CS GO I'm getting audio de-sync issues with the avermedia live gamer HD cap card. I've done some googling and there doesn't seem to be much I can do about audio sync (fairly common problem with this cap card) besides restarting the stream. I figured I'd ask here anyways.

Only solutions found so far:

Lower framerate, restart stream

Any ideas?

I think virtual audio cable can set a delay, so you can maybe do video through card and audio normally and delay it to fix sync.

its a progression based delay where the audio is synced to begin with and gets desynced over time.

here is a link that I have read over that describes the problem quite well.

I almost forgot about the TL thread. I really need to remember to come here more often.

mrgoochio - have you tried enabling "use buffering" and seeing if that helps with the problem at all?

Hey guys, hope you're well

Anyone else had a weird issue where there's delayed audio on your stream? Basically, when I'm on Skype with people, all sound is exactly as it should be, except my voice on Skype, which is about 5 secs too late. I have no idea why

Any ideas?

Have you tried enabling "listen to" on your mic from windows sound options, and then muting the "record mic" thing on OBS, so that your mic audio is mixed with your general computer sound (you hear it through your headphones) instead of being a seperate channel?

I think that would probably fix your issue but you might not want to do it as it involves listening to your mic, sometimes on a noticable delay depending on what equipment and onboard audio/sound card you have

Is your mic delayed all of the time or just sometimes?

Delayed all the time. I'll give that a go, thanks.

Is there any resource somewhere that can find faults with your network setup for streaming? According to speedtest I have 92 mbps upload, but I still have some frame loss/freezes while streaming. I've tried streaming at 3, 7 and 9 mbps, it works equally well at all bitrates; OBS will stream fine and display the green bar next to my bitrate, but very occasionally it turns red and starts having a bit of frame loss. Overall it turned out to be under 0.5% frame loss, but looking back at it it still noticably freezes several times.

Here's a VOD as example: http://www.twitch.tv/abradix/b/429457725

Starcraft 2 itself did not freeze during these times, so it's definitely an issue with my uploading, and I am running out ideas on how to try and resolve this.

There was an online tool i think that ran a speed test (upload or download) for an extended period of time (like 10 minutes or more?) i think it was labeled something to do with detecting speed throttling or something. You probably have occasional drop-outs in speed that you didn't notice before or something like that

Did you set your server in OBS? If so, try a different nearby server. Sometimes the geographically nearest server doesn't give the best results -- I live in Northern California and get better ping to the Los Angeles servers (~400 miles) than San Francisco (~80 miles). JTVPing might be helpful http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=326034

Can't figure out my audio desync over time problem. So frustrating having my viewers tell me my audio is so delayed after a good stream sesh. Gotta reboot the stream and lose up to 50% of my viewers. I don't think there is a solution unfortunately.

That JTVPing tool is quite interesting, even though I live in Amsterdam I get the exact same ms on the Frankfurt and even London servers. I think I have fixed my issue by manually setting the buffer much larger than the actual bitrate, going with a 9k bitrate (although that is overkill, I should probably set it to 7k instead) with a 15k buffer I had zero frame drops and also zero slowdowns on a 2 hour stream last night.

Thanks for the help guys!

Keep in mind you can't measure the dropped frames from Twitch to your viewers. With 7k, your viewers will be dropping frames unless you're only streaming to a handful of people who you know have fast enough internet.
