stream for 5 minutes, then minimize the stream and you can read in the bottom of OBS whether or not you've dropped frames in that period. also try changing servers to one close to your proximity, i sit on 15mbit upload and I couldn't stream more than 400kbps, then I realized it had me connected to California ( I'm EU ).
that might help, also pm if you have problem setting up the program or anything, will gladly try and help. GL with getting ur stream up ! <3

is it just me or is my stream really choppy, ingame since today with no changes it was really choppy too but normally it wasnt
example http://www.twitch.tv/oetoriya/b/418783092
scv movement looks kinda choppy to me -_-

The stream seems to be fine now, im not getting that problem anymore! I deleted the my game capture screen and remade it and it seemed to make the stream better

Q, can you change an existing source to a global source?

Hey, are there any tricks for not dropping frames?
I've been trying to record Osu videos at >60fps (120) to watch at under 1x speed, but when there's stuff going on in game (my ingame framerate is 300-1000+) the recordings dip as low as 15-30fps, and it's pretty obvious the encoder is not doing extra work (i have i7 4770k @4.7ghz; my CPU usage is reading no more than ~2-25% during this, with no core hitting even 40% i think)
I tried game capture and monitor capture with newest version of OBS, same results

Record as in saving to the hdd? Is your hard drive's write speed fast enough for consistent recording?

It's an SSD and the file output is only a couple of megabits per second sequential

I tried game capture and monitor capture with newest version of OBS, same results If your in game FPS is that high it might be saturating the GPU and preventing OBS from using it. Try capping the FPS or using window capture.

Thanks, will do. I saw that before, should have remembered it
Was about to post fraps benchmark of the video output:
Frames 6463 Time (ms) 144160 Min 23 Max 61 Avg 44.832 VLC won't display higher than the refresh rate of your monitor, the 60fps max is 120 but the minimum and average are true, >95% of the video is below 50fps, spinners (most of what i originally wanted to look at with lots of fps) consistently dropped into the lower half of the 20's
Trying now with capped FPS to 120
Confirmed working, awesome. Thanks again

I was wondering how you would stream games that don't show up in the window list, and change your native resolution so that when I try, the game appears in the top left corner of my stream and flashes constantly. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it just me or is streaming a lot smoother looking than with XSplit ? I have a license with XSplit and i like the scene features but i did some testing after streaming a bit of Just Cause 2 Multiplayer. Looking at my stream i felt it was little bit choppy compared to other streams, yet i had over 100fps ingame and streamed it at 60 fps. Fired up OBS with the exact same settings, veryfast preset, bitrate of 2500 and so on. Stream looks alot smoother, especially when turning around. Both are giving me about the same framerate and both are deliving upwards of 100 so its not a framerate issue either.
Im also using the Avermedia card as a camera. Look the difference here, especially in the end of the OBS example you can clearly see the screen moving around is alot faster and smoother.

I'm currently at 720p with 2000 kbps, and I wanted to ask if there is any improvement in further increasing the bitrate? I'm at 30 fps. Another question is whether a 60 fps 720p stream would be more CPU intensive than a 30 fps 1080p stream? I can stream in 1080p and my framerate in the beginning of games is still 100+ fps but it seems to get random spikes of small lag that make it not as enjoyable to play as in 720p.
Thanks!

I'm sure you're partnered with Twitch so you should be perfectly fine with increasing the bitrate, assuming you have the upload speeds to sustain it.
Looks like you have a 4770k so you really shouldn't have any problems running a 1080p 60fps stream (I can do it no problem with a moderately overclocked 2600k). Some things to consider:
-Are you using Monitor Capture or Game Capture? Not sure if you're required to use Monitor Capture for a scene switcher/stream privacy setup to show your sponsors etc, but you'll definitely get better performance with Game Capture while streaming SC2. -Are you leaving your stream preview windows open? I get pretty bad lag if I leave my Twitch preview and/or OBS preview windows running. Once you have your stream overlay setup and everything dialed in, you don't really need the preview anyway. -Try to overclock your CPU. Might not be possible depending on your cooler and mobo, but even a mild overclock would probably help a lot.

Yeah I'm using Game capture for in game, monitor capture for out of game. Definitely get much better performance with Game Capture. Also in terms of stream preview I leave the twitch video on at 240p and the OBS one on, didn't know I could disable that but yeah I'll look into that. For OC'ing which I was planning on doing (I've got an aftermarket cooler so it should be decently doable), I was wondering that since i7-4770k turboboosts to 3.9 GHz anyways I would have to OC to 4 GHz or more in order to actually get an improvement right? It'd be sick to run a 1080p 60fps stream but when I was doing 1080p 30fps I had good framerate but stuttering every now and then that was a little annoying to play on

I could be wrong, but I think the stock turbo boost only hits 3.9GHz when using a single core (3.8GHz for 2 cores, 3.7 for 3, 3.6 for 4) and streaming will definitely be loading all 4 cores. 4GHz should be a decent improvement, you could probably go higher with a good cooler but I don't know how well Haswell handles overclocks. I'm pretty surprised that you can't stream smoothly at 1080p 60fps though. Haswell i7's are beasts :O
The only other thing I can really think of is you might be running a slower x264 preset? Check Settings>Advanced>x264 CPU Preset and make sure it's set to 'veryfast'.
Also, if you have a 2nd monitor you can open task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and go to the performance tab and keep an eye on your CPU usage while streaming and playing a game. If you aren't getting any spikes or high usage, then something else is going on.

I have an AverMedia Game Capture HD and wanted to know if there was a way to prevent it from capturing more than just the game?
Like I want it to lock onto the game window rather than anything I alt-tab into, is that possible?
I'm using OBS

I'm upgrading Internet soon and just wondering what the minimum bitrate you'd recommend for 720p? I am looking at streaming SC2 and my upload, depending on the stability and speed of the connection, will be between 1 and 2Mb (Probably closer to 2Mb). My PC specs are:
i5 2500K Overclocked to 4.5GHz 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM GIGABYTE HD7950

Can make a 720p stream fine with like 0.5-0.7mbit up, more is always better. You'd use 10mbit if you could and it didn't limit viewership
