I have a I7 2600K OC'D 4.3GHZ and a GTX 580.
Upload speed is 2.85. What settings should I use and could I stream at 720P/60FPS?

I wouldn't really trust the estimator or really what anyone says about the settings (no offense intended to the technically knowledgeable!). You might be able to squeeze out a lot more than you think. I have a Phenom II x4 965 @ 3.9ghz and I can stream sc2 at 720p 30fps default encoding rate (superfast?) while maintaining 60fps (50-60 late game) in game at 1080p high settings. You just gotta mess around with the settings . The estimator says Phenom II is in the same category as Core 2 Duo and that I should stream at 480p 25 fps xD

Edit: I can also stream CS:GO w/ max settings in game, 4x MSAA. 100fps in game. 720p/30fps stream, could probably go higher :D. Battlefield 3, High settings w/ terrain and mesh on ultra and 2x AA. 50fps in game while streaming 720p/30fps. OBS is an amazing program. You really just gotta experiment. With shooters it has almost 0 impact on the framerate in game, I think because those games are not very cpu dependent, whereas RTS is a very cpu dependent genre.

Correlation =/= Causation, there could be a trend but it's likely to be coincidence (:

I think pretty much anyone will agree a PhenomIIx4 especially overclocked is not near the same category as a core2duo though.

Of course . I just know that most games are a lot more GPU intensive rather than cpu intensive like sc2, so that helps i'm sure

Okay, Ive been through all 53 of these pages for tips and tricks and ive been messing around with the setup.

PC specs
+ Show Spoiler +

Intel i5 2500k SB @ 4.2ghz
Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 3x
16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz DDR3
100/10mb connection

For Obvious reasons then my Pc cant do 1080p @ 60/45 fps and still be able to play APB.. rather intensive game for the pc to handle but a very nice test game.

but heres my first try: http://da.twitch.tv/swiftyxnap/c/1862731
With the following settings:
+ Show Spoiler +
Quality 10
3500/3500
AAC 128
Base Res: 1920x1080
Res downscale: None
Fps 30
MultiThread Opt: On - Priority normal
x264 preset: veryfast
Rest Default

Besides ingame fps dropping by a somewhat expected amount since that game is so ridiciously poorly optimized (people that has played APB knows what im talking about).. then it seems to run okay, but there is a lot of pixilation, might be just me but judge for your self.

So the Question: how can i reduce pixilation ? .. and is there other settings that i would want to change for a nicer looking stream .

Feel free to call my settings retarded :p .. im quite new to this program .
but none the less allready like it alot more than my old Xsplit / dxtory setup :D

^You cant, really. Close to CPU and to bitrate limits, can maybe drop to Faster but nothing else to change. You hit bullseye with pretty much all settings

^ Wouldnt Faster stress my cpu even more or im i completly wrong ? ..
will i get a "cleaner" stream if i swap down to 720p@60fps ? .. since that would leave abit more Bitrate for each frame ?

It's called an "estimator" for a reason; its purpose is to give you a starting point so that you can optimize the settings yourself. There are simply too many variables to create a "one size fits all" chart for optimal settings for every possible configuration.

Example: my speedtest results show 3.5Mbps upload, so the OBS estimator suggests 3100/3100 bitrate/buffer. The reality is I'm stuck with ~2000/2000 because Comcast's "PowerBoost" is disabled after 10MB of uploading.

In my case I'd plug in 3100 bitrate and drop frames like crazy, then incrementally lower my bitrate until I got to ~2000 and stopped dropping frames. You should expect to have to tinker and experiment a bit with software like this.

And to anyone asking "Can my PC handle streaming?" like the example above on this page (sorry, not trying to call you out): try it and post your results so someone else with a similar system can compare!

You have nothing to lose by simply trying and experimenting (unless you have a serious lack in CPU cooling and the fail-safes don't kick in. But even if this were the case, there's no way for the experts to know this so you'd still be encouraged to try to stream anyway ). Hell, you might even learn something in the process!

It would stress CPU more but give slightly more encoding efficiency, you are close to CPU limits so depending on the game you might not even have room to do it, its not much of a gain.

You can experiment with lower resolutions and different framerates to see how it looks, your current settings should be great for most games but looks like you would need a lot higher bitrates at the same resolution to make that game look as good as a lot of others in terms of pixelation etc

^ Was kinda what i thought :p .. another question, how big effect does the Quality setting have. just ran over the Setting Estimater on obs home page, and it comes out with:

+ Show Spoiler +
CPU Advice

Set FPS to 30
Consider setting FPS to 60 if you have spare CPU power for improved quality

Game Advice

Set quality to 6 or 7
Lowering your quality will improve areas of fast motion
Use game capture if possible for maximum performance.
Use window capture with Aero enabled if game capture is unavailable.

Network Advice

Your upload speed is sufficient for 720p / 1080p
Recommended max bitrate: 4000
Recommended buffer size: 4000

If you look at the Game part it states that lowering the Quality will help areas of fast motion ? .. in which way? .. and whats the drawback or how big is the drawback of lowering ? ..

i know much just comes down to testing but if you have any knowledge around this it would be really nice to hear :D

Lower "Quality" will hold back on bitrate and keep the average quality of your output lower, but make it more consistent, instead of using more bits on a scene that already looks ok and then not having enough to make some other frames look very good

Maybe, but i think this game wont look good at a high resolution regardless of settings with a ~3.5k bitrate limit
