1080p at 60 FPS isn't done because the max these capture cards seem to want to do is 1080p 30 fps and asking a single CPU to run the game and stream at 1080p @ 60 is a very tall order.

So we have 720p @ 60 fps.

I kind of dislike dxtory. I mean yes, it's got a million features, but whenever someone tells me that dxtory is crashing the app, I just sort of facepalm, and think "oh, great, dxtory again."

I'm just going to implement my own native game capture source alternative in my application directly so I can at least control what's going on, as well as have a super fast capturing method for games. If possible I'd like to get people off of dxtory.

twoscomp: Why are you using DXtory with OBS ? OBS window capture is alot faster than DXtory.

Preset?

Very fast

1920x1080 at 60fps @ veryfast is out of range for me (with an i7 9xx @4ghz with ht on), Anything more than ~45 will drop frames with fast camera scrolling (scroll wheel held down moving mouse, etc) or during stressful scenes, and encode performance should be almost identical between pc's of the same specs, even if capture performance is different. You probably dont have solid 60fps with enough cpu room during hard to encode scenes or scene changes to avoid frame drops or other issues

In Dishonored its 80fps stable while looking from a rooftop across the entire city at 1080@60fps. It jumps from 80-95.
CPU isnt everything, what GPU do you have ? I have GTX580, also running from an SSD which helps alot with streaming.

I have also disabled hyperthreading which you MUST do with your CPU. Newer cpus dont use hyperthreading but older ones like i7-9xxx get a solid boost from it when DISABLED. In DayZ (Arma2) i went from 30fps to 115 fps when disabling hyperthreading. Its not the same in every game, but the problem with hyperthreading is it adds virtual cores to your real ones. So performance gets spread on virtual cores which will lower your real performance.

Was referring to This ^ Medrea, and people do 1080p60 soometimes, but ive only seen it on a few 3930k's before, specifically with WoW, which you can aparantly capture with gamesource with only like a 5% performance hit to the game.

3930k is approaching double the performance of a 960@4ghz though. You have 2 extra cores, notably higher frequencies and its sandy bridge based so significantly higher IPC as well, and then the game will be using a lower % of your CPU overall

And btw Jim, great program, and sorry for messing up your thread some before

I wasn't counting processors that cost so much you could build a second system for the cost that would probably do the job even better.

Or games that don't take much to render anyway. Dishonored keeps performance up by having each level be super small, probably something that had to be done to fit on console platforms.

Isnt the point exactly that you cant run a stream like that on a dual system setup because of capture card limitations?

Point taken.

Yet, I still dont think 3930k and 3960k run very much at 1080p 60. Thats a very small part of the market.

I can pull a pretty solid 45 in sc2 with a 950 @3.8ghz 24/7, you should be fine with most games i think

that is kind of a shame, the scene switching seems like more of a problem with obs then dxtory thought but I don't know what other issues people might have had with it but thats the only issue I've had so far.

It will be intresting seeing what your own game capture source can do, but it would be nice if you somehow managed to find a way to support other fullscreen game source capture software.

The removing dxtory bug is actually my fault - there was a bug with removing global sources. Should be fixed in 0.42a, which I just uploaded.

But why use DXtory at all ? Ive done benchmarks with only OBS and with DXTory and it gives atleast 30+ fps with OBS Software Window Mode capture. With XSplit, DXtory was the fastest method but OBS just blows everything apart when it comes to performance.

Dxtory depends greatly on your setup. For me I have 60-90 FPS with Dxtory in OBS and 50 in Xsplit. And I get like 60 FPS with the OBS capture and it shows other stuff which I don't want to stream.
REally looking forward to the in build fullscreen capture method as well

I have similar performance with OBS and Xsplit screen capture and horrible performance with both dxtory and gamesource

I think we are moving beyond DXtory now. I could never get it to make a difference for me anyway.

My hats off to you sir. I'm taking my first computer science class this semester, and learning to code in computer language is difficult. Thanks for the wonderful program. Hopefully I get to tinker around with it some more this weekend.

@obs.Jim
Kinda noticed that whenever you resize the main window every control (buttons/listbox/your own volume controls) flickers. Having a look in the source code (WindowStuff.cpp and OBS.cpp) you are hiding and showing the controls everytime a WM_SIZE / WM_EXITSIZEMOVE occurs, is that sane?
Also funny :D "//hello, you've come into the file I hate the most."
Btw what do I need to compile obs (visual studio express + directx sdk is enough) ? Maybe I'll toy a little with it (specifically fix that annoying flickering).

I'm trying to stream at 910x512, 24FPS, and while it doesn't lag the game and I don't notice any difference, the stream is stuttering and lagging a bit, especially in engagements. I've tried moving the resolution and FPS up and down a bit and it's basically the same. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to all this stuff, so any suggestions for improving it would be appreciated.

If it helps, when I tested my upload speed it was 0.94MB and I have an 'AMD Phenom(tm) 9500 Quad-Core' Processor.

Your bit rate is probably too high so that when a lot of stuff is happening on screen, your upload speed is not enough for the bit rate you chose.

In case your game is sc2 try to have vsync on. Had the same problem, that fixed it. (in my case it was stuttering badly)
