I want to stream - will 4 Mb upload be enough?

Hello peeps,

I currently have a 8Mb download and 1Mb uploadspeed. This is low and when I stream I experience lag. Also, when I am not streaming and just gaming, and my mother is doing a facebook upload or whatever she is doing, I experience lag aswell (300 ms latency instead of my usual 30). I want to pugrade my internet to 40Mb download and 4Mb upload.

My questions:

will I be able to stream without lag if I have 4 Mb upload?

Will I no longer experience lag if I get the new internet package when my mother is uploading? Even if I normally do, will I get more lag if I am streaming (using upload route just like my mother) thus higher ms latency?

Please help me out! Thanks in advance.

You should be fine... if anything you can always stream in less quality or alter your settings around so it works. But I believe you can stream 720p just barely.

Yes 4mb is more than enough to stream at 720p you might be able to do 1080p as it requires minimum 4mb upload but you have to have a steady 4mb up or else it will lag for viewers.

First of all, if your mom is uploading, you probably will also lag with 4mbit upload. Sure, not as long as you did before, but if the upload is utilizing your full broadband you will still lag. It is not a matter of mbit, but a matter of how often she uploads which filesizes.
It would be better to find a way to limit her upload speed when you upgrade to sth like 1mbit at max.

Anf fyi, you can stream 720p already with 1mbit. Sure it doesnt look as good as a 4mbit 720p as you put a lot more stress on the CPU but still doable.

If you are getting latency make sure you aren't setting the upload to 1mb otherwise you will get latency. If you stream at 600kps you shouldn't get it.

I have a .7 upload speed (not even a mb TT) and I can stream fine with no lag/latency whatsoever. Stream doesn't look that great, but not awful either. I stream at 470 and no lag/latency or anything.

I have only 1mbit upload atm too, but I can stream 720p quite well.
