Artificially reduce monitor size?

I've been using a 30 inch monitor to play SC2 on and its just too big to properly play on. Is there a way to shrink the monitor size to a certain dimension (22 or 24 inch preferably) artificially? I remember seeing a video about Grubby demonstrating how a Benq monitor had a built in functionality that allowed for it and I curious if there is any software that is also capable of doing so.

EDIT: So I found the video that demonstrates what I was trying to illustrate.

nVidia has an option in it's control panel called Adjust desktop size and position, in there you can disable any aspect scaling and that way you can shrink your screen size by adding black bars to the top and bottom.
I'm sure ati has a similar feature in it's drivers. You should also disable any scaling your monitor performs or it'll stretch the image needlessly.

Set your resolution to down to 1920x1080, it should take up about 20 or so inches assuming you have a proper 30" resolution of 2560x1440 or 2560x1600. Then disable display scaling in whichever vendor's graphics settings you happen to have.

just play in window mode make it as big as you want and select the confine courser option in the opinions menu. Or simply push the monitor further back away from you, you shouldn't be too close to monitions anyways they are backlit so they essentially like looking at light bulbs a few inches from your face.
