Hello fellow TLers!
So, this week to come I was intending to do some streams for a Brazilian SC2 community, about various games.
However, while testing Xsplit with various games, I came across a common problem: Fullscreen games.
Say, for instance, Warcraft 3. Playing it on Windowed mode is impossible(unless there is a way to truly lock the mouse to the window), and while on Fullscreen it will flicker a lot, especially messages on window(which are common when playing DotA). Or, for example, Assassin's Creed 2. It is impossible to make it windowed mode on Windows 7, and when streaming it causes constant flickering on the game.
However, I've seen quite a few people who are capable of streaming fullscreen games like these without flickering - and this is my question: how do you do it?
Standard information:
Software: Xsplit 1.0.1109.2301 Public Beta 5 CPU: Intel Core i5 460M @2.53 GHz 4GB RAM OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bits DL/UP speed: 2.09Mbps/0.86Mbps to California right now; ISP supports up to 15Mb/1Mb Ping Test: 0% Packet Loss, 205ms ping, 1ms Jitter(To California) Wireless/Wired connection, both equally stable(Wi-Fi router right by the side of the computer) Streaming options: * Quality 6 *VBV Max Bitrate 500kbps * VBV Buffer 1000kbit * 1366x768 Screen region * 44100 KHz, 16bit stereo audio * 64000bitrate audio * Streaming service: TwitchTV VOD explaining the problem: http://www.twitch.tv/zephirdd/b/296969490
Thanks for any help.

The option to add the game source (which is available for those who have pre-ordered) seems like it would be what you are looking for.

I assume you're talking about Xsplit pre-order, right?
I read a bit into it and I found this
At the moment, « Gamesource » supports games only in « window mode » but the goal in the long term is to be able to use it in a fullscreen mode, which would give it the ultimate advantage compared to a classic « screen capture ». Most of the traditional game formats are supported, DirectX 9,10 11 and OpenGL, etc thus enabling compatibility with most of the games out there. Please note, this feature is still in development so depending on different systems/games some issues can occur.
I am willing to buy it if someone can confirm it is working for fullscreen games as of beta 5. I found no information on it, so I assume it isn't?
Is there any other way also, even if it means using different programs?

You wont be able to stream at any high quality with only 0.85 up

No, it won't be high quality and that's not the target. I will hardly have 20 viewers anyway.
I did quite a few SC2 streams in the past for these guys, but when trying to stream WC3 games this flickering just annoyed the viewers. The only thing I'm looking for is a way to stream fullscreen games; the quality won't be a problem(as you can see, I hardly use a good quality option), the problem is just the flickering.

I believe most non sc2-streamers (ie. PS3/Xbox, fullscreen directx) uses some sort of capture card, either internal or external (like these: http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/).
As you've found out, it is the goal that GameSource eventually will support fullscreen DirectX games, but it's been awhile since they came out with newz about it. However on the very page from which you quoted the above, there are several titles supported by GameSource: SC2, QuakeLive, BFBC2 and CS1.6.

Most people use a program called Shift-Window to make any program "full-screen" to windowed mode.
|
Isn't "Shift-Window" just resizing any windowed-mode game to fit the entire screen, thus simulating fullscreen mode? I don't think it can convert a fullscreen-only game to windowed mode, right?
Found this: "Shift Window" is a nifty little tool which enables you to get rid of those borders/title bar and automatically centers it, effectively giving the same effect as playing it fullscreen.

Oh, that will be useful for Warcraft 3 streaming, as it essentially simulates Fullscreen(windowed) mode that is not supported by it. Thanks!

Dxtory should allow you to stream in fullscreen. It's also easier on the CPU than Xsplit's built in screen capture software.

Isn't that true only for old versions of Xsplit? I tried using dxtory once and it was very, very hard on my computer, but xsplit worked just fine.
I'll give it another try later.

Dxtory+xsplit doesn't work for fullscreen in my experience. It really really seems like it should! But it doesn't

But it doesn't IF you experience any problem while streaming with dxtory such as ingame lag than go check if you have the " File Output" checked on. If so , than un-click it and try again.
