Also I sort-of replied to your last post in an edit edit to your edit: Okay, I'll shave that off, then. Didn't even really think about it, but i've been watching a lot of Linus Tech Tips reviews and that guy is crazy about his airflow and quiet fans! I love you very much.

Download links for all popular English language versions of Windows 7 can be found on this page. These are large ISO files containing a number of GB so be prepared for a long download. Once downloaded, the ISO can be burnt to a DVD or placed on a USB. These versions are updated to SP1. http://best-windows.vlaurie.com/boot-disks.html#full i guess that link should work, you need the version of windows that your key is for. 32 and 64 bit use the same keys iirc, so you just need for example home premium if you have a home premium key. I'm not sure exactly what to do with iso file to make it work but it should be somewhat simple to boot from a disk or USB storage using it (google can help you there) Not sure exactly what you need to do with the windows key, if you can just straight re-use it (it's the same system) or if you have to call some number and go through the quick automated microsoft service before you can use it again

I would like to do a fresh reinstall with the same CD-Key as my computer is too bogged down with garbage now. How do I go about doing this? Not sure if this works in Windows 7 but try searching for "recovery". In Windows 8 and 8.1, you can go search up recovery options that allow you to reset everything to factory settings (with the same CD key of course).

Basically the only game I'm waiting for this year is "Witcher 3". And now they released the requirements. http://thewitcher.com/news/view/927 And I really don't know where I'm right now with my system! I own a AMD A6 5400K 3,6GHz processor and have a GeForce GTX 760 graphic card. 8GB Ram and Win7 is available. Is that somewhere in between minimum and recommended? I don't need some triple shader accleration mumbojumbo details in my graphics, but it should run ok and smoothly! Should I upgrade something!? The processor sounds maybe a little week I think, but I'm really outside of my knowledge!

I am pretty amateur when it comes to Linux but if I can get it to install I should be able to figure out the rest. It depends on what you want to do with it specifically - you are running your own software, or a package provided by someone else for the "scientific computations"? For instance a lot of software we use in high-energy physics has been tested either for Scientific Linux or Ubuntu so picking one of these two is highly advisable for anyone going into computing here, because all the problems for the current versions are known or solved. If no such dependency exists for you, then there is not so much of a difference between distros if you are going to use it as a server, that is mostly ssh-ed to bash from somewhere else. We often deploy Ubuntu for such purposes just because the knowledge base is big, but anything with good packaging system (so that you can easily update/add what you need) is equally fine.

On the same socket, something like the a10-6800k is usable (4 threads instead of 2) but maybe you'd be better with an fx6300 or i5 (different sockets) I thought right... my mainboard/processor is much older than my graphic card! And I'm an AMD guy, so no Intel for me ![]() Looks like AM3+ is the current generation socket... ok, thank you! Now I know where to look! Will probably wait until I really need it for less pricey board/processor!

There hasn't been anything released by AMD outside of low end CPU segment since 2012 and prices are pretty stagnant atm, so they only really have the 6300 and 8320 that are good for cheap multithreaded performance, but all around nothing to compete with the 4690k+

Edit: I guess you might not even be overclocking, so most of that wouldn't apply to you. Reinstalls are always good :D

You don't need to use Adaptive voltage btw, it has some downsides and Manual (at least on most if not all boards) provides the same idle and low load undervolting features when used properly with c-states Edit: I guess you might not even be overclocking, so most of that wouldn't apply to you. Reinstalls are always good :D I'm was gonna try my hand at some overclocking, so I'll just use BIOS as you recommend. It's the only portion of the program that's giving me problems so it's a wash. Thanks =]
