Hello TL,
I have a stable 10mb/s connection speed (cable modem), and sometimes when I download something, my connection simply goes down.
I just received a free trial to try out WoW, and I'm giving it a go, but whenever I run the installer, it downloads fine for few minutes but then my connection shuts down. I usually need to force the installer to shut down after that and restart my computer for the connection to return. I've allowed the program through windows firewall, and I've also disabled the integrated firewall in my router but the problem still persists.
Sometimes my connection also fails when downloading files using torrent programs. I think it could be related to my DNS server, because sometimes my web browser won't load new pages due to some DNS error, even though other applications like online radio on winamp and Steam are well connected to the internet.
I've tried changing my DNS server, but whenever I open my network sharing center and go to settings from there, there is no internet connection on the list which properties I could change.
Edit: Here is a picture of my connection panel in my internet options

I'm connected to the internet but I can't see any connections listed, even though I was able to see my router connection's name there some months ago.

When did this began to happen? Since you got a speed upgrade perhaps?

Go into the Blizzard downloader settings and deactivate peer to peer. If you're having the same trouble with torrents, you may be getting throttling for those types of connections.
I know I get faster DL's of Blizzard stuff with it disabled anyways.

I got my new connection 9 months ago, but the problems started to arise in last 3 months.
Sometimes the connection fails and I have to reset my modem to fix that... I just found out though that if I ran the troubleshooting test when the connection goes down while DLing, the connection comes back. It's weird

Where do you do that? I have this WoW installer and I can't see any settings panel there, only the typical install window with the slideshow story with pictures.

Uhm, if you aren't using the normal Blizzard downloader, no idea if you can do that or not. Are you actually installing off a disc or something? If you were using the downloader, it would look similar to the SC2 patcher, and you'd have an options dropdown.

I have the same problem. Blizzard installers bring my 10/1 internet connection to its knees (despite not downloading at 10 mbps) as well as torrents even when I download at 50 kbps.
Is my ISP really throttling me?
Edit: The Blizzard downloader will be downloading at 200 kbps and my internet will seem to shut down for every computer/console in the house. The only thing I can do is watch the downloader. Even SC2 will have several seconds of lag. Doing a speedtest at this point will reveal a .1/.07 speed.

I mean, it's just the installer I got when I used my trial key on battle.net. The download speed is fine, but it keeps shutting down my connection spontaneously.

Sorry, haven't seen that before. The one I'm used to looks like the SC2 patcher, and has an options menu, where you can mess with those settings.
Sorry I can't help

I just noticed that my internet connection goes back to normal again after troubleshooting, but it tells me that the error was 'default gateway not available'. What is that about? I googled it but couldn't find anything related to downloading files...

The Blizzard downloader is P2P. Your router / modem (or security software) sucks and can't handle more than a handful of connections and crashes.
