My current Steelseries Cloth mouse pad, is getting preety old, but its mainly that over time it feels like there is more friction. Example: So il play SC for an hour, then i have to rotate the pad 90 degrees, then the mouse will glide very nice for another hour, then rinse and repeat. My friend has the 9HD, and a Deathadder, and it feld amazing imo. But i dont like the Deathadder right now, i really dont like the amount DPI and increments it asks for. Im sitting perfectly fine at 1000 DPI, which i cant get with a Deathadder, or any other Razer mouse as far as i know.
Posted above me was a great Questions list. So im just going to ask that right now, since im feeling like getting the Sensei, but man i have so much to learn about Mice, not to mention whether or not to go for the RAW version or not, so i will ask these questions, and probly learn a shit load thanks to you kind folks. Ok here goes!
1. What's your grip style?
Claw/Fingertip if that makes any sense? Its preety much just my fingertips touching the mouse, palm is not touching at all, fingers are curved like claw style.
2. What's your sensitivity?
1000 DPI, willing to go to 800 if its worth it.
3. What's your maximum budget?
Anything!
4. Do you want additional buttons?
Not really, as i have no use for added buttons for SC2. although the 2 thumb buttons on my X8 are nice for surfing the Web, but really not necessarry.
5. What games do you play?
SC2 all the way! some FPS and the usual AAA titles, Mass Effect/Skyrim, or any new games that come out, i will play, but SC2 is all i care about in terms of a mouse.
6. Do you mind angle snapping?
I have no clue what this means, can someone explain?
7. Other relevant information:
I just want a good, solid, and WIRED mouse. been using my Wireless Sidewinder X8 for over 2 years, and need something new. And yes i will be getting the 9HD mouse pad from Steelseries, because i love the surface. I dont need anything fancy, no need for LED's, or millions of buttons, or macro's or w/e. So far i like the Sensei, since i can get exactly the DPI i want, and looking at the Sensei RAW as well, both look good. But im sure you guys probly have some other suggestions. Thanks in advance folks!
Sensei's overrated and overpriced for your needs. The DPI is overkill. There are fancy LEDs everywhere, millions of buttons, and on-board macros. All of which you mentioned you didn't need.
Save yourself $60 and buy a Razer Abyssus. Sounds like it would be a perfect fit for you. Good, solid, wired mouse. Three buttons. Low-key design. Lightweight and great form for a fingertip user. Flawless sensor, assuming you purchased a mouse with the most recent firmware that solved the issues from older versions. 800/1800/3500 DPI settings, which falls in your range. EDIT: 450/1800/3500 DPI. In this case, would not fit you well.
You can buy both a 9HD ($35) and an Abyssus ($30) for less than a Sensei ($85).
Ultimately, the choice is up to you. Have fun with your shopping!

Are you sure the Abyssus can go to 800 DPI? Been reading, and all i see everywhere is "450/1800/3500". if it can go to 800 without the need to do stuff software wise, i would probably buy it, i just dont like having to set the software so say 50% input 1600 dpi, to emulate 800 dpi, seems like that would be less than optimal. Thanks for the reply either way!

It can't go to 800 dpi. I'd reccomend you a Deathadder, because the shape is closer to the Sensei and the Sidewinder, plus you should be able to go 1000 dpi.

Edited original post for clarification.
I retract my statement about the Abyssus, and instead offer you the Zowie Mico. This mouse is set at 400/800/1600 (yes, I double-checked this time to make sure) and is similar to the Abyssus in size and form factor. Might have some accel issues, but nothing extremely major. The 800 setting is fine, users have been complaining about the inaccuracies of the 1600 setting.
There's a thread floating around in the forums (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=214766) that has a lot of feedback on the mouse. Check it out!
EDIT: Found the thread. Added to post.

The DeathAdder is the furthest thing from a fingertip mouse as you can get. It's big, it's lengthy, and quite heavy for someone who prefers to move the mouse around with fingertips only. While the DeathAdder is one of the best mice on the market, it's not suitable for his grip-type.
DPI on the DeathAdder is set to 450/900/1800/3500.

O man i totally forgot about this mouse actually. There was always something about it that i liked, might be the hard presses required, and i think the smaller form factor could be useful for myself since i curl up my fingers when im playing, my current X8 is just to big to be able to fingertip properly, im amazed ive been able to endure this mouse for so long! lol. Thanks for the reply again, will look further into the Mico, right now!

I mean if what I'm interpreting it right, he's been finger tip gripping a really big and heavy mouse and he's now making a huge jump to a really really small mouse, just saying.

Thanks for the reply again, will look further into the Mico, right now! From what I understand, the MiCO still may have a pixel jump bug (unconfirmed) that the Kana and Kinzu v2 had (but fixed with firmware updates): http://www.overclock.net/t/1084929/my-zowie-mico-experience
By big, do you mean tall or wide, or just in general? Also, your hand size matters. For instance the distance from the tip of my middle finger to the carpus (bone cluster of the hand near the wrist) is ~20.5cm, or ~8in.
As for the CPI steps, the native settings for the Abyssus are 1800 and 3500, while 450 is interpolated. You can fuss with your windows pointer speed settings to essentially get 900CPI (halving 1800) by dropping it to 4/11, but that's an imperfect solution, just like using an interpolated CPI step.

Hey everyone, I ended up buying the Razer DeathAdder and so far it's a great mouse no complaints other than the glossy finish attracts too much fingerprints and or dust. Thanks for the help and thread. I just hope it doesn't die out in 9 months.

On March 19 2012 17:59 rebuffering wrote:What is angle snapping? Oops, for got to answer. Also known as prediction or drift control, but these are all terms used to describe a type of path correction algorithm found in some mice (unconfirmed, may be all, but don't have definitive info on this). Basically Angle Snapping helps you to draw straight lines and it's not necessarily a bad thing, but some people can't adjust to this kind of correction so they need a mouse that has either none, or very low amounts.

Angle snapping is when prediction is out of hand and the mouse is trying to do more than smooth out the movements that you could not have humanly made on purpose.
Reducing the impact that naturally shaky human hands have on a mousing experience is fine, but when a mouse is trying to read your mind or try to predict the future (literally), its not fine. Doubly so for gamers since we make hybrid movements that involve more than straight-line movement.
Not that SC2 requires anything but straight line movement anyway though.

1. What's your grip style? I would say I am a hybrid of palm/claw. My index fingertip touches left mouse button; however, my middle finger lays flat on right mouse button.
2. What's your sensitivity? 6/11 windows sens with 1150 dpi.
3. What's your maximum budget?
$80
4. Do you want additional buttons?
I make use of the two side buttons on the logitech mx 518.
5. What games do you play?
SC2 is the only game that matters for my mouse. I casually play a couple FPS; however, SC2 is the primary game.
6. Do you mind angle snapping?
No. I have got quite accustomed to it with my MX 518.
7. Other relevant information:
I have been using the same MX-518 since it was originally released in 2005. I have tried several other mice(mainly deathadder & Lachesis) since then due to worn out feet; however, none of them 'feel' quite the same as the MX 518. It is becoming increasingly hard to find replacement mouse feet that make the mouse slide properly.
My MX 518 is beat to shit and I think it is time to replace it. I am too paranoid to buy refurbished/amazon. So please, help me find a MX 518 clone!

Logitech G400 is the successor to the MX518, and has a flawless sensor to go along with (assuming you didn't purchase a first-generation model, which has prediction). I'd think that would be the most logical upgrade.
If not, another MX518 would be another option for you. If you like it so much, why not just get the same mouse again?

I have tried the G7(I think it was called? My buddy has one). It was very clunky, didnt like the form of the mouse.

AFAIK, the MX518 has been discontinued. Amazon brings up refurbished mice and 'buy new' from some sketchy suppliers that I have not heard of.
Upon some googling, the G400 looks a lot like the 518. I will head to best buy tomorrow and see if they have any on display. I feel like such a hipster, but it seems the MX518 was built precisely for my hand

It is true that ive been finger tip gripping the big ass X8 mouse, im not sure its been optimal, so id like to get away from that size, my hands are of average size i would say, but when i finger tip my x8, my index and middle fingers are about a full Inch away from the end of the mouse, so really its just making it harder to click since i dont have the leverage as if i was palming the mouse or something. @Siffer If you really loved your Mx518, the G400 will be the closest thing to it. If you really want to have angle snapping if you can get one where the part number is less than LZ13333, otherwise angle snapping will be removed in the newer models. you should be able to tell as the sealing stickers above 13333 should have the logitech logo on them, and not just clear.

Just picked up a G400. It feels nearly exactly like my old MX 518, which is quite nice. Thanks for all the suggestions, people :D.
Now I just need a trophy case to display my MX 518 .

Honestly, unless your discomfort stems from resting your wrist on your desk, and the attendant friction, you'd do better adjusting posture or using a lighter mouse, most likely.
That said, I'm a big fan of the SteelSeries QXC lineup. Good for even the pickiest mice, wide selection of sizes and stuff. I use the mass, it's thicker, but that's mostly because newegg was out of the ones of similar X,Y dimensions that were normal thickness when I ordered.

changing your grip, getting a lighter mouse, being ergonomic, playing less games: these things will all help. A mouse pad - not so much.
