He can just use an adapter, I've used one before, they work fine, and unless he bought locally, it's less hassle than a return, since he can pick up the cable just about anywhere (good) that sells computer parts.

Yeah, something like that, Fry's is pretty much guaranteed to have one. Less hassle than a mail-in return or exchange. That's why I've used one.

Just make sure you check that you'll have room behind the drive for the adapter, it can be a squeeze in some setups.

Any one would work fine. Shipping isn't worth it at this price.

Here I saw it said it had SATA capability http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136111 but mine is labeled 2009, though the model number is the same, so I wasn't sure

It doesn't say SATA, it says ATA. In this case, PATA, better known as IDE.

Turbo boost is on by default, there is no tweaking involved.

I'm not sure what your final configuration ended up being but you cannot overclock any processor on the h61 / h67 chipsets.

I'm not sure if these are default settings or incorrect readings or you decided to increase the clock speeds without research but you need to reset all settings on your graphics card back to default. A 63c idle temp and 1800MHz core clock are serious problems that may damage your graphics card.

omg but I didn't touch any of the settings! what should I do?

Shader clock is twice the core clock. 900 MHz core (1800 MHz shader) is the factory setting for some factory-overclocked cards. That's normal. I highly doubt the number that's supposed to be 900 is actually 1800.

Just forget about all these settings unless you run into a problem or want slightly higher performance or want slightly lower (fan) noise. These things should work out of the box.

oh phew! thanks myrmidon, yeah I am definitely not going to change anything. i seriously thought my temps were too high or something.

Right now I am actually running a stress test that an EVGA support guy told me to run. So far so good. holding stable at 70 celsius. Using OC Scanner program.

Does anyone know if having SC2 on an SSD would fix that slow alt-tabbing problem on fullscreen or is there no fix for this yet? I'd prefer not to play on windowed-mode because I'd need to change my monitor brightness/contrast settings each time (and it's still not bright enough for me).

Hey guys picking out a computer for a friend and based on budget I chose:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227314

Now he wants to stream his play (SC2) on medium graphics settings with decent quality of course. He has good cable internet since I know that plays a factor, but yeah what do you all think? Again, this is the best I could find for the price just wondering if he could pull it off, I'm sure he can but just want to double check before he throws down ~$600
Live it up.

I just have one more question (I know i lied earlier and stated that one was the last one). But I forgot that I need to use some sort of wireless internet for my comp. Is there a part I need to buy, or does it come with the computer? I am purchasing my comp off http://www.ncixus.com/, and if there is a part I need to buy I would prefer to have them install it for me. Thanks in advance guys.

@djcube:
I think the issue is that the graphics card is essentially running exclusively SC2. When you switch to the desktop or back, it needs to dump some assets and then load some new ones. An SSD won't (completely) fix this issue. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here--compared to most answers I give, I rate this one with a low confidence.

@Treva:
Many people with cable internet access have good download speeds but bad uploads speeds. With cable you share your upload connection with everybody else in the neighborhood, so ask your friend to check his upload rates at peak usage hours. For streaming you're constantly uploading lots of data, and it may be too much to handle.

On a side note, that computer is okay for the price but not great. As a reference, the cost of those components (not including Windows, mouse, or keyboard) is approximately $415 if he were to get them separately. It's pretty much exactly the minimum setup to do any streaming while playing SC2 on medium.

In about a month, AMD will release new processors that may be better deals than what's available now.

@FearTheReaperMan:
You need a wireless (Wi-Fi, i.e. IEEE 802.11) adapter. Only a few desktop motherboards have that onboard, and those are usually higher-end mini-ITX boards for small HTPC systems. Installing a wireless card would be pretty painless though. You take off the bracket corresponding to the slot on the motherboard the card will use, plug the card in, and secure the card in place. Or you could even use an external USB adapter. If you want an internal card, you just need a spare PCI or PCIe slot. I forget what your motherboard was and what slot would be open. You already have a wireless access point (wireless router), right?

@Myrmidon- This was the mother board-
http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=60574&promoid=1323

Which one you suggest internal or external? and say if I got any external one, can basically any brand be used with the modem I have currently
Yes I have a wireless router as of right now. Its a Linksys pretty damn old model(LMK if I need to be more specific).

Thanks for the help

For some reason I'm not finding wireless adapters on NCIX. With the slots available, you could use a PCI or PCIe card (or a USB one). I never use wireless adapters on desktop systems, so I'm kind of out of the loop on what's good. Most everything should work, but you never know what is going to have buggy drivers or other problems. There are standards that all the devices sold have to be compliant to in order to get certified, so they're all (supposed to be) perfectly interoperable no matter what brand you get.

Unless your router is like 8 years old, you probably have a 802.11g router. You want an adapter that supports 802.11g. 802.11n is newer and backwards compatible, while 802.11b is older and forwards compatible (but at slower data rates). Most people are limited by the connection from home to the ISP rather than from the computer to the router though.

This is one of the situations where I'd just go on Newegg / Amazon and find whatever has a lot of ratings and a very good ratio. You can get really cheap ones, but spending like $25 on something that doesn't suck may save headaches later.

Hey guys, I have a problem building my computer right now.

It fires up and the dvd drive works as well, but when I connect it to the monitor, nothing shows up. It says that there is no input source on my monitor. I hooked up the monitor to another computer and it worked fine. Any suggestions? Do you guys need pictures?

Possible problems: My hard drive has openings for slots, but I'm only using 2 of them as i cannot find what is supposed to be connected to that last spot. One slot on my hard drive is connected to the motherboard and the other is connected to the power source.

I don't think I fried the motherboard or anything, since I had a anti static wrist strap + I worked on wood floor + I grounded myself before touching the motherboard.

I'm so lost =(

Motherboard lights up, fans are spinning, etc.? If the internal speaker is hooked up, do you get beep codes on POST? Everything is plugged in right? Motherboard CPU power connector is in? Graphics card external power connector(s) are plugged in?

Is the monitor is plugged into graphics card or motherboard? If it's not working with the graphics card, you can try removing the graphics card and using the integrated video from the motherboard if you have that.

Hard drive is not the problem (or not the only problem), as you should be getting a signal on the monitor anyway.

Did you hook up the PCIE power cables to your video card? Is your monitor hooked to the video card or the motherboard? Did you remember to plug in and turn on your monitor? (Yes, that HAS been the problem before.) Your HDD should only have 2 cables running to it.

@myrm

You see, I'm not sure if everything is plugged in. There are so many empty slots of the power supply that I'm not sure whether everything needs to be used. So I'm not sure :/

No I don't get a beep, but I do have a 4 pin spot connect on the motherboard that says "speaker1"

The graphics card is connect to the power supply with 2, 6hole cords. I have some extra stuff that came with the card which I have idea what it is. I got 2 6 hole cords which I think is extra incase the power supply didn't have it?

@jingle
Is PCIE power cable the 8 hole cord b/c that is not connected to anything and I think it should be... :/
The monitor is hooked up to the motherboard, does it matter which it is connect to??
And lol yes it was turned on. I immediately switched comps and the monitor is fine.

Uhm, the only 8 pin connector I can think of off the top of my head would be CPU power for certain boards... How many cables do you have plugged into the motherboard? There should be one next to the CPU, as well as the 24pin hooked up near your SATA ports.

What PSU and motherboard are you using? Can you get a picture of your motherboard easily?
