Ok, the 4+4 is the right one for CPU power, the 24 kinda goes in just one spot. The Crossfire thing is for multi-GPU setups. I still have no idea how you have anything empty with 8 pins if you're using both PCIE 6pins off the PSU instead of using a molex adapter. Have you tried taking the video card out and putting it back in? If you bumped it while moving/hooking it up, that could have knocked the card slightly loose.

please let me know what you think about my new "silent" pc: intel core i5 2500k 173,55 € ASUS P8P67 Rev 3.0 117,20 € MSI N470GTX Twin Frozr II 179,90 € 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz CL9 73,43 € Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 600W 105,60 € Noctua NH-D14 67,99 € Fractal Design Refine R3 89,75 € Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7260S 18,64 € im hoping that prices for something like the intel 320 series ssd will go down a bit in the coming months, so im planning to use a Samsung EcoGreen SpinPoint F3 500GB as primary hdd until i can switch to a ssd. im not sure if that is realistic or a good idea. plus some be quiet silentwings case fans: ~900 €
i chose the N470GTX because its apparently a very quiet video card but i also read somewhere that the N470GTX had slightly more RAM and tessellation capabilities than a GTX 560... o_O

Crossfire is for connecting the graphics card to another graphics card. You don't need that. The 8-pin you're correctly not using is the 6+2 PCIe power.

If you have a graphics card plugged in, the onboard video is disabled. Plugging it into the motherboard will give you no signal. You want the monitor plugged into the graphics card.

It's a single PCIe 6-pin GPU.

Fair nuff. That was what I was looking for though, was the 6+2 being free or in use, instead of forced into the CPU socket.

GF100 is just a power monster chip, so there's too much heat to deal with quietly. GTX 470 has a little more RAM and I think you're right about tessellation, but the GTX 560 Ti has better performance overall.
i5-2500k hardly uses 100W unless you're pushing overclocks really hard. You can get away with a much cheaper heatsink than a Noctua NH-D14 and have it be quiet. Personally I'd cut the 8GB of RAM (and certainly not get 1600 MHz if it's more expensive) unless you really need it. With some tweaks maybe to the power supply as well, maybe you have room for a ~60GB SSD without needing to wait. Reinstalling the OS is too much hassle IMHO, and running your system off a 500GB low-rpm drive may not be so great.

Hi guys, I have been thinking about building my very first rig. Previously I had a friend build me one, but I would like to do this one myself. I have a general idea of what I might want, just need some guidance. Thanks for taking your time to give this a look!!
What is your budget?
---$500-$800 (Don't need a GFX card I already have a GTX 460 unless you guys think I should be upgrading)
What is your resolution?
---1920x1080
What are you using it for?
---Gaming and everyday use. Mostly play SC2, TF2, plan on getting BF3. I always wanted to stream, but if my budget doesn't cut it...just throw that out.
What is your upgrade cycle?
---I'd say at least 2-3 years. Can't remember how long I've had this one.
When do you plan on building it?
---A few weeks hopefully.
Do you plan on overclocking?
---I have never done any overclocking, but I might want to give it a go
Do you need an Operating System?
---No.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
---No.
Where are you buying your parts from?
---Newegg

Hey finnish upp my time in school now and going to work during the summer so finaly going to be able to get a new Cpu, and i realy want to try and build one on my own So I'm thinking off speending quite decent peice off my hard worked money into it.
What is your budget?
About 1500-2000 Euros, I want to get a pretty decent one so i don't have to uppgrade for the next 12-18 month atleast, though i'm not that into the costs of computers you build on your own.
What is your resolution?
1680*1050
What are you using it for?
75% gaming 5% school work 20% social.
What is your upgrade cycle?
1-2 years
When do you plan on building it?
August-September
Do you plan on overclocking?
Maybe were light, just to learn and becuse i'm a curious person
Do you need an Operating System?
Yes.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
I've been thinking about it, but becuse i've never tried it i have no clue if it's worth the extra money.
Where are you buying your parts from?
http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/site/KomplettHome.aspx
I've also been thinking about starting to stream abit, but never been possible with my current Cpu so i would like it to be possible on this one and becuse it then would be anoying to tab all the time, I'm thinknig of getting atleast 1 extra monitor but you don't have to include that here as i have one i will use right now and will get another at a later time. And if i could have an SDD drive for my games and booting and HDD for music/movies and less importent stuff, that would be great, mainly becuse i will ahve the money and becuse i hate to w8t and would love to being able to tell my friends "Who got the slowest looding Cpu now?" as that generaly is me now and im getting alot off flack for it now.
Thx for all the help!

When do you plan on building it?
August-September
parts and prices will be wildly different then. its best you to wait until august/september before you choose your parts because any parts you choose now will fall in price and better, more economical parts will be released. my graphics card dropped 30 dollars one month after i bought it =/

Ah true that, just want something to drowl after, want a new Cpu so badly hehe

Hey skyR and Myrmidon i need another computer build This one will be for my store, just a basic computer to hook up with my video security cameras. Not sure if i would need a graphics card for security cameras. Cheapest would be best, and only about 2-4 cameras. Resolution: 1280 (17") No oc, os, cf/sli No dvd drive

Give us one of the back panel along with one of your mobo if possible. Can't guarantee it will turn anything up, but it's worth a shot before going into RMA mode.

This is the motherboard. One is on one side of the graphics card, and the other one is on the other side of the graphics card

There's no power plugs in the top pic (under the video card) that I can see. Looks like USB and HDaudio to me (+front panel that you already plugged in)
I cant quite see what the plug is on the very left of the photo if its audio or a power plug.

Ok, so best I can tell, after reading back through, everything aside from a bad video card has been covered. Just to double check: Video card has power to it? Monitor is plugged into the back of the video card and not the motherboard? You don't get a post beep at startup, but you don't have the case speaker connected? You've removed and reseated the graphics card? You've tried another video output from your graphics card if applicable?
If the answers to all those are yes, try another graphics card in the same PC. You said you were able to test the monitor with another PC, so I assume you have access to one.
If a second card works, the new graphics card needs returned. If the second card doesn't work, it's most likely your motherboard's PCIE slot, or possibly your PSU.
|
Also just making sure you're plugging your monitor into the video card ports and not your onboard ports right? Also does your computer beep at you when you turn it on?
|
Do you want me to post more pics of the top picture?
My video card is attached to the power supply by 2 6port cables.
Yep, I switched it to the video card after initially connecting to the mother board
No, I don't get a beep. My computer turns on, the blue lights come on, and when I press the dvd drive, it opens.
I haven't tried resetting the video card. I'll do that now and update you guys.
Thanks a bunch
EDIT: The fan on the video card spins, if that helps.

So it turns out I am having little luck with streaming with my e8400 based system, and as such its time to upgrade!
I am looking for some help in finalizing a i5-2500k build.
Budget : ~1,000. Would like to spend less if possible, I do need an OS.
Resolution: 1900x1080. May possibly go dual monitor in the future.
Usage: gaming + streaming. Mostly SC2, and planning for D3. I do not play FPS. (Ok, maybe CS:S once in a while)
Upgrade cycle: I would like to get 4 years out of this computer, possibly upgrading the gpu/cpu in a couple years. I have gotten a solid 3 years so far from my wolfsdale, and only my desire to stream is causing me to build a new rig.
Plan to order in the next few days.
I plan on overclocking to 4.5k-ish.
I do not plan on SLI/XF unless it becomes a leader in price/performance at the midrange.
I must order everything from newegg or amazon.
I must have a filled a cart on newegg 10 times so far. I have a hard time not choosing the +$50 options on everything, and talking to some of my friends who like to buy the most expensive of everything while choosing components doesn't help.
I have been looking at getting a HAF 932 case, but I'm hoping its smaller and cheaper friends are just as good? I will basically never be transporting this computer as I have a gaming laptop so I wouldn't mind a sweet ass but heavy case that i could use for a decade. But maybe its too big and not needed?
I currently use a hd4850 that meets my needs with sc2, of course I will want a newer card for this computer. Thinking the 5850 1gb for ~160 seems too good of a deal to go with a 5950/560ti?
I have read so many varying opinions on motherboards, I don't want to spend 190$ on a asus p67 pro model but if it is more reliable for some reason....Also I may actually use an auto-tuning style feature to do my overclocking.
The z68 cache build seems cool and fun but I don't know if it will help with streaming/gaming. I suppose I would rather spend money towards peripherals than an SSD.
One last, perhaps too narrow thought: I notice the Realtek ALC892 has a worse S/N ratio than the 889 which seems to be only still found on the gigabyte boards. Last night I bought HD555 headphones on sale at amazon while researching pc stuff. Will using a ALC892 with the HD555s be (/gretorp) problematic? I currently use either USB headphones or my SPDIF out to a pretty sweet stereo for sound. Usually a combination of both. I'm assuming any p67 chip should suite my needs.
All the information and discussion in this thread has been amazingly useful, I feel like I could make a purchase already but I feel unsure about if I should/need to be spending the extra +/- $50 on each component. Thanks a ton!
