Yes it's enough to stream unless maybe you're looking at higher quality than a good quality 480p / okay quality 720p stream. If you want to stream higher quality than that, you should look into getting a Core i5-2500k, a P67 motherboard, an aftermarket cooler (about $80 more than the current setup) and overclocking that.

But as always, when people recommend a build and you wait a few days, prices change and there are better options available.

Corsair CX430 is kind of a very well-known commodity, but thanks for pointing out the promo code. Performance is good aside from barely-not-80plus efficiency, but the component choices are stingy to say the least. Of course, many budget units have similar components inside. Also note that it's only rated for 336W on +12V, which is more in line with good 380W units. They're mostly okay, but Corsair gave it a 2 year warranty (as opposed to 3 on GS series, 3 on updated CX V2, 5 on TX and older HX series, and 7 on AX and newer HX series) for a reason. It's usually a good choice because of the price though.

Was your overclock stable for at least four hours in prime95? If your overclock wasn't stable during load than increase the voltage.

I forgot to ask this previously but what constitutes as random crashes in Windows because you might be experiencing a totally different problem that is not related to your overclock. Are you getting BSODs or just random lockups? Random lockups during idle (doing nothing) is a problem that some users (myself) have experienced with the ASUS P8P67 series as seen in these threads:

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1577853
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1583213

Solutions are also listed in the threads, some include: disabling C3 / C6, increasing ram voltage / decreasing ram frequency, disabling all power saving options in the BIOS and within Windows, updating the BIOS, ...

Just want to make sure that that RAM and my motherboard are compatable? I believe the motherboard only has 2 slots, not sure how many that 8GB requires. Also, a friend told me that my power supply should be better, is there an issue or is she wrong? Thanks as always :D

Your psu is enough to handle the CPU and the GPU. Also, I am pretty sure they gave you a 4GBx2 8GB kit, so you only need two slots.

edit: yup, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416.

Isn't that RAM different from http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226095
or is it the same (2 slots). Sorry for the bad questions ><

2x4GB = 2 modules of 4GB so it requires 2 slots.

Yes, 400w is more than enough to power your configuration. The Antec Earthwatts has a better build quality than the Corsair CX430 but both are excellent choices for a budget build.

So I've been looking up the reviews of the samsung spinpoint f3 HDD and it seems to me it has the performance but in terms of reliability, it's lacking. People are saying that it dies within months. Is that true? Should I trust the reviews? If so, I might reconsider getting it. Anyone that has it can testify otherwise? Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

It's true that computer components aren't perfect and some are bound to have a short life, arrive DOA, or arrive defective. If you want to base reliability on a small fraction of customer reviews on Newegg than you might as well not buy anything off Newegg.

Bear in mind, people are more prone to complaint than praise. If it works, that's just expected, but if it doesn't they actually consider it noteworthy. You can't get anything resembling an accurate statistical sampling by reading reviews from a consumer site. If you think the price/storage is a good deal, get it, if you don't, look for something else.

Looking to build a nice PC as a gift to myself returning from my last deployment. I've never built one before so I don't know too much about it.

What is your budget?
$1500

What is your resolution?
1900x1200

What are you using it for?
Gaming mainly

What is your upgrade cycle?
every year or two

When do you plan on building it?
Right away

Do you plan on overclocking?
Yes, I want to learn how to overclock since I am already learning building the computer too

Do you need an Operating System?
My roommate is going to supply me with Windows 7 64 bit, is there a more preferred OS for gaming?

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
Yes, it is an option I'd like to keep open

Where are you buying your parts from?
Ordering from Newegg most likely, I'll be home from deployment next week so they should be all waiting for me when I arrive.

Thanks!

Take the Windows 7 64-bit. This doesn't use all your budget, but spending more won't really get you anything significantly better.

Core i5-2500k - $225 ($215 today)

Thanks for the help! Just a quick curiosity, how come it seems most recommendations lean towards the i5 instead of the i7?

Because not many people need the hyperthreading, and i5 OCs plenty good, so the i7 tends to end up being not worth the price for the noticed performance difference.

i7 has hyperthreading and no other benefits (well, 2MB more L3 cache for i7-2600 over i5-2x00, but that's marginal). Hyperthreading helps for heavy multi-threaded CPU crunching tasks like video encoding but not really for games. Most games aren't parallelized that well and don't benefit.

I have a small problem, I don't have any sound on my newly assembled pc !
I have installed/reinstalled the realtech audio drivers for my motherboard.
The sound isn't muted, the speakers are connected correctly and do work so I don't know what's wrong.

If I check the sound menu in the control panel, it lists 4 devices :

Speakers --> not plugged in
Headphones --> not plugged in
Digital audio (S/PDIF) --> Default Device
Digital audio (S/PDIF) --> Default communication device

There are sound bars next to the bottom two and I see some volume changes when I have something open that should generate sound. My build is the top post on page 205 if it is of any interest. I searched quite a bit on google, but I couldn't find an answer besides is it muted ? and reinstall drivers.
