phyre, your PC perfectly fine to run SC2
SeankPeek: It is your GPU. The Intel GMA 4500M is a pathetic chip when it comes to 3D games.
ExecutioN: MSI cr610 should run it at low, but it is an Integrated ATi 4200.
hellstar: Should be capable of high.
s2pid_loser: I really, really hate the layout of the site. I click their "Intel" platform and it pairs a P7P55D with a Core 2 Duo...
Go with a different place if you want to buy a PC. :/ iBuyPower and CyberPowerPC (same company?) have decent layouts.

im looking to buy a relatively cheap computer from newegg to play SC2. I dont really run any other really strenuous task on the computer so i dont need something amazing. and also i dont care much for supreme graphics so im content with running smoothly on low.
im eyeing the slim acers right now that have nvidia geforce 9200 on them. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103236 any opinions on how good(or not as bad) that card is?
the one issue is that I also want the computer to be able to run Diablo 3 when it comes out. now i know they havent released the specs on that game but maybe you could guess?
also any other suggestions if im looking to buy a computer in the 300-500 range(preferably the lower end of the range)? are there any viable options for something that cheap with a discrete graphics card so i can upgrade, in case its not good enough for D3? sry for alot of questions im just kinda stuck =P

My specs: NVIDIA GeForce GTX260 Processor: Intel Core 2 duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz 3.17 GHz Memory: 4GB DDR2 System 64 bit Vista
My sc2 settings are at 1024 x 768 x 32 bits atm. I use a 56" SAMSUNG 1080p as my monitor, so I don't really know what my displays should be at. What are the recommended resolution for my graphics card and monitor?
|
How well would this run SC2? I'm in the market for a new laptop for college atm.
Intel® Core™ i7-720QM (1.60GHz, 6M cache) 512MB NVIDIA® NVS 3100M for Quad Core 4.0GB, DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM, 2 DIMMS
Alternatively, this one
Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Processor, 1.60GHz 6GB DDR3 ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4830
|
Well, regular 4830's supposedly can run at High, so with your second computer I'd expect it to run at medium at a minimum, and high depending on your resolution
For your first one, that card seems to be fairly weak, around the level of a GeForce 7600, which I believe is close to the minimum, so it might be ok on low
|
Mhmm how well would the Alienware M11x run?
Specs: Intel® Core2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHz 4GB DDR3 800MHz GeForce GT 335M
Processor is a bit weaker but it doesn't seem as if an i5/i7 is really necessary even for ultra.
|
looks like a 335M is around the level of an ATi 4650, so that should run on medium/high depending on resolution, though I don't know your cpu, the clock speed is pretty slow ><

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz RAM: 4.00 GB GPU: Zotac GeForce GTS 250 1GB Mobo: EVGA 3 PCI-E Board (not sure of exact model number anymore) Operating System: Windows 7 Pro x64 Resolution: 1920x1080 @ 32 Bit All Graphics settings: High FPS: Haven't done test, will edit when I do. I've not yet seen an FPS drop in game.

1080P = 1920x1080

Max resolution for that screen is 1366x768 It says the processor is overclockable, although I can't find specifics. edit... default overclock is 1.60 GHz
Ehh... does anyone have a recommendation for a laptop that can run on high for <$1600, with a battery life of at least 5-6 hours?
|
feuxfollets: gaming laptop with an extra 9 cell battery. (though Nvidia's switchable graphics might work later on) 5-6 hours is not possible with a power processor like the i7 and a powerful graphics processor.
feuxfollets, second one will run at high/ultra.

I'm looking to build a computer 500-600 USD. I've decided on getting a GPU that is about in the 100 dollar range, and some sort of AMD processor. (Real specific) Not sure about getting a single/dual/quad core. What would make it run well. Also, what type of RAM would be good? Thanks (I'd probably like to play on mid/high settings)
|
Including OS? Case? Peripherals?
|
Including case. Not including peripherals, although I really need a new mouse/keyboard. I'll probably get win 7, and that's not included. Still, Windows 7 looks soooo expensive...

I run the game 13XX by 7XX, most settings on low/medium, shaders on ultra.
ATI 3850 graphicscard AMD 5000+ processor 2 gigs of memory winXP pro SP3
I have a constant 90 fps ingame (max?)

That is integrated card, for 500$ you will not buy anything good with an operating system.
Well actually if you would go real cheap, get 2GB ram, and 9800GT then you could end at about 500$ with a system.
|
500-600 sounds like a dead zone for AMD unless you can find a good deal on a 955 combo. i'd just go for an i3 / i5 dual.
