I'm afraid Dude, the only thing Blizzard shares with what it was in 2009 is it's name. Blizzard died the day Kotick announced he was selling. Blizzard is an animated corpse thrashing about.

Ah, very interesting, I do remember that I found the subscription fee back in the day to be pretty steep for the time (one season HD, which was 720p, was like 25 EUR or something like that) and back then subsidies by Blizzard were probably not half-bad, so was it more an issue with paid viewership being too low or more that production costs were too high?

I mean, probably not on ad-revenue and subscriptions, but the fee they received from Blizzard to run it must have been worth it for them to keep hosting it for a decade. And that money is 100% 'legit' from Gom/Afreeca's perspective, whether or not you think it was a waste for Blizzard.

The costs were simply too high. I don't know for sure if Blizzard was subsidizing GOMTV or not. Considering the aggressive pricing model GOMTV used, I might believe they weren't. Either way, they were losing enough money to try and sell it for at least two years before AfreecaTV bought it. One of GOMTV's biggest issues was that it was only using the venue space for the GSL and nothing else.
