Suspicious allegations regarding Protoss player Firefly aka Xue Tao have emerged on the Chinese community forums (summary via EthanCheung).
Two days ago, an individual made a post regarding a money dispute with a professional protoss player on Chinese forum "SCboy". This individual said the player had borrowed money from him and refused to give him back the full amount he was owed, being the money he had loaned him, plus "extra".
The next day, this individual identified the protoss as Firefly and posted a transfer wire report seemingly confirming he had transferred Firefly the amount he had said, as well as done other previous transfers, for a total of 8 times. Per members of SCboy, the timeline of the previous transfer seems to correlate with professional matches Firefly has played.
From my understanding, there have been no comments from Firefly at this time and no third-party confirmation of the truthfulness of the documents presented. However, Offsyde esport has released Firefly from their team. Given the circumstantial evidence, some fans are speculating that Firefly was involved in match-fixing.
As I don't speak Chinese and there could be stuff lost in translation, I'll be sure to edit this post if I misinterpreted something or close it if it appears to be fake.

Something is definetly up, considering OFFSYDE specifically stated that they terminated Fireflys contract "due to personal reasons".
|
Worth noting that there have been previous allegations of [less serious] unprofessional conduct from Firefly a few years ago: https://tl.net/forum/starcraft-2/569144-firefly-released-from-dpg
Match fixing is definitely another level of seriousness though, so hopefully we get a little more information on this. Though given that OFFSYDE already released him, maybe the only jury that matters has already made its decision
Edit: also, a lot of extra info on the starcraft reddit post, for those curious

Very weird, and the history of SC1/SC2 unfortunately makes us suspect match-fixing. However, there's no direct accusation/proof of match-fixing yet, so it could just be a case of unethical financial conduct (also something we're familiar with in StarCraft).
|
The key issue now is that Firefly himself has never responded to this matter.
Although remittance records cannot directly prove Firefly's participation in fake matches.
But his evasive attitude towards this matter has made everyone very suspicious.
At present, it is speculated that Firefly has privately resolved the issue with relevant personnel.
His participation in the fake match should have happened in reality.

Now the Chinese community has compared the remittance time with the ESL Asian qualifying time.
I am unable to upload images, I will directly inform you of the results.
Every remittance record occurs after Firefly's competition.
And each remittance time happens to coincide perfectly with the end time of the competition.
Firefly always makes transfers immediately after his matches are over.
Every remittance time happens to coincide with the end time of each ESL qualifying match.
Firefly's financial transactions are all concentrated after the end of each game.
In addition, he is currently avoiding this matter.
The Chinese interstellar community has identified Firefly's fake match behavior

The Chinese StarCraft community speculates that Firefly's fake match behavior in ESL qualifiers was exposed due to uneven distribution of spoils.

This kind of slander to the GOAT should be a bannable offense smh. People forget he was serral level in the most competitive era of sc2 and he was like 14... bro threw 2 maps in a nothing-tourney; If serral threw a random map in some Big brain bouts, we wouldn't stop calling him the GOAT.

Not suspected, widely accepted by everyone; it's just that China doesnt have an agency investigating corruption and gambling fixes like Korea does. And it was worse, macsed lost a SERIES against a diamond player, 2.5k mmr lower than him. IIRC people like Heromarine have said they won't play against him for that reason (not that macsed is good enough to qualify for anything outside of china anyway).

1)Funny, I always think people who completly unnecessarily bring up this overhyped moron should atleast get a warning. But hey *shrug* 2)Life wasn't even near Serrals level of dominance or skill. Or Marus. Or...pick ten others. 3)If Serral would be convicted of Matchfixing in a match over lunchmoney, I would stop calling him the GOAT in a heartbeat.

Maybe he could have been the GOAT but well, he isn’t and didn’t get the opportunity to show it due to his own actions. He did a hell of a lot of damage to the wider scene

So they just seem to be very strangely behave but no actual evidence In doubio pro reo.

its fucking hilarious every time I see people rush in in defense of known and convicted match fixers and then complain about why the scene isn't thriving like it used to.

If you believe that Firefly must admit in order to be convicted.
He has indeed not admitted to his false match behavior in the ESL qualifiers yet.
Because Firefly is now completely in hiding and no one can contact him.

The matchfixing scandal was only an issue for those who follow the scene closely and/or bet money on games.
I saw the downward trend in viewership following BL/infestor era followed by Swarmhost vs Swarmhost era.
