This kind of slander to the GOAT should be a bannable offense smh. People forget he was serral level in the most competitive era of sc2 and he was like 14... bro threw 2 maps in a nothing-tourney; If serral threw a random map in some Big brain bouts, we wouldn't stop calling him the GOAT.

MacSed was suspected of match fixing as well?

Not suspected, widely accepted by everyone; it's just that China doesnt have an agency investigating corruption and gambling fixes like Korea does. And it was worse, macsed lost a SERIES against a diamond player, 2.5k mmr lower than him. IIRC people like Heromarine have said they won't play against him for that reason (not that macsed is good enough to qualify for anything outside of china anyway).

Don’t want to do the time, don’t do the crime

Maybe he could have been the GOAT but well, he isn’t and didn’t get the opportunity to show it due to his own actions. He did a hell of a lot of damage to the wider scene

its fucking hilarious every time I see people rush in in defense of known and convicted match fixers and then complain about why the scene isn't thriving like it used to.

The matchfixing scandal was only an issue for those who follow the scene closely and/or bet money on games.

I saw the downward trend in viewership following BL/infestor era followed by Swarmhost vs Swarmhost era.

You had to look really closely to notice Proleague shutting down, yes

Guys, we had this discussion a thousand times. The thousand-and-one time won't be the instance for "uh, actually Life didn't do anything too bad and he is also totally the best ever because he hasn't lost a professional game of SC2 in almost ten years, hurrdurr".
He is an overrated idiot and probably the biggest singular person to damage the game in its history, maybe tied with Gerrard, hard to say. Can we finally leave it at that?

And now this guy qualified to EWC 2025 , with achieving 17500$ prizemoney, and Blizzard gave absolute no attention to it in the end. What a joke

Even his team (Offsyde) and his own (Firefly's) reactions completely telegrapth this situation is absolutely true, and he was involved in all of it.

October 1st, someone (let's refer him as "A") posted on scboy forum claiming having a economic dispute with a protoss pro player. The player borrowed money from A, and A "collaborated" with this player and transfered him some extra money, but in August the dispute started. This player refused to return neither about 10k CNY he owned to A nor the extra money (https://www.scboy.cc/?thread-684763.htm).

October 2nd, A posted again on scboy forum, claiming the player is Firefly. In the post he attached the transfer record to a WeChat user named Firefly. Firefly borrowed 50k-ish CNY from A, and A transfered Firefly 8 times in total 126k CNY. Firefly has returned 40k-ish and refused to return the remaining. A claimed having evidences that could end Firefly's career (https://www.scboy.cc/?thread-684918.htm).

October 3rd, it is found that every transfer from A to Firefly were made right after Firefly's matches, including 4 matches in ESL 2024 Spring: Asia in April, 5 matches in WardiTV Korean Royale Season 3 in May, and 1 match in EWC closed qualifier in July (https://www.scboy.cc/?thread-685032.htm).

A only posted these two posts on scboy forum (1 and 2) regarding this issue, and Firefly hasn't responded officially yet.

Without a solid proof it's hard to disqualify him. Personally, I find him pretty suspicious—but in the end, my opinion doesn’t really matter.

In the scenario where Firefly's guilt is proven by strong evidence, would the EWC proceed with a disqualification? And if that happens, who would then fill his spot?

*Edit* Nvm, didn't realize Jim's original post is already posted in another thread on TL.

Sorry, may I trouble you to copy and paste Jim's original post on scboy.cc? New user registration is currently blocked on scboy.cc, so I can't view that thread I'm redirected to their homepage when I click on that thread's link, so I assume only forum members are allowed to view threads (unlike reddit which is open to the public for viewing)

Serral>Life

The sad thing is (arguably sad albeit) - he tried to come back to starcraft some years after the incident and korean pros would just instant leave the game if they got matched vs him. StarCraft really never forgave him but it isn't the same story with other matchfixers.

I hope that EWC would disqualify Firefly, though I imagine if they did not, a bunch of players (esp the Koreans) would make a stink and force EWC's hand. Giving the spot to Lancer who finished 2nd in the qualifier would make sense.

Honestly, it's pretty sad for Life. He was like what, 14 when he went pro, 15 when he won his first GSL, 18 (but probably earlier) when he was involved in all the match-fixing. He could have been so much more, but chose the worst path forward.

Really tarnished the game and the community.

Sad to see another scandal in the CN scene.

Was the damage done by Life far more serious than Firefly? It was during the height of SC2 esport so everything is scrutinized much more. What Firefly did, assumed proven, is still egregious but it doesnt attract much attention outside of the CN community. The only reason we are knowing about this now is because of the EWC spot and its tournament integrity, had Firefly not qualified then I doubt this would be a big deal.

I posted this on other thread but I'm reposting here-
some comments from Crank regarding this:

We already knew about incidents like these already, really.

We already knew large number of Chinese players were already involved with matchfixing but we know how it went, with it being passed on and hushed up.
We don't really want to be involved with Chinese players anymore either.

There's tons of story about Matchfixing and offers regardless of country, in Korea or China. But Chinese scene seem to be bit more blatant about it.

Regardless of country or sports, there's always going to be people involved with illegal or shady businesses. To be perfectly honest, if you were smart and subtly fix with things like mistakes within reason and possible to do, what can you even do? There's nothing we can really do about it.

So we tend to just ignore that possibility at all when we do our work, but there's always scums like that who come out of woodwork and stir things up.

One really sad thing is that players who have period where they suck, like Crank, where they just play really badly and lose. And they get piled on as suspicion of matchfixing. And that's the real tragic part.
