If (and likely when) Maru wins this GSL finals, I think that's the tipping point to crown him best player (so far) in 2019. Unless Serral wins something big in the meantime.
Serral's already out of the running. He didn't win IEM and he didn't win WESG. And no more chances to prove himself against Korea's finest until GSL vs the World. There's zero reason to crown him in 2019 when he lost to soO and Inno, both of whom went on to claim trophies while Serral is empty-handed.
Maru might claim the crown if he wins GSL, but it'll be a tarnished one, considering his performance at non-GSLs.
In game 4 Maru vs Trap, at early game around min 3:30, Maru started to have higher supply at 43 vs Trap at 42. I rarely see a case where Protoss has lower supply in the early game. Did Trap just fall short on his macro ?
At min 6:20, just when tasteless said "Maru is definitely at a deficit here", after the failed attack, Maru supply was at 79 vs Trap at 72. Can anyone explain?

Why do some people always (advertently) forget that Inno also won 4 GSLs (if counts GSL vs The World)?
Because nobody cares about him whereas Mvp is a big ass pimp
Even if Maru wins this GSL, I would still say Innovation is the GOAT of SC2. With the WESG win this year, Innovation just added another major tournament win to his trophy case. Without the WESG win, I would consider that if Maru wins this GSL, he is very close to Innovation or maybe Maru even surpasses Innovation. But after the WESG win, Innovation is still the GOAT.
Maru is still young and Innovation is getting old. So if Maru keeps it up, he may surpass Innovation eventually. Having said that, Serral is also very young so Serral has many more tournaments to win in the future and perhaps it will be Serral and Maru trying to take over as GOAT from Innovation.
It depends on what you value more. If consistency and longevity is your main criteria then Innovation is the obvious GOAT. If you value the highest skill peak and level of play, then Maru is the obvious GOAT.
And that Serral part... Uhm, Serral won 2 meaningful tournaments. While Maru won 6? 7? + Proleague. Serral will never be a GOAT because he is playing in a weak region.

GSL vs The World counts as a GSL for Mvp and INno.
GSL World championship doesn't count for Life and Zest.
GSL Super Tournament counts for Polt but not Rogue or herO.

People really forget about how consistent Maru has been. If you look back season by season to the start of HotS he's actually more consistent than INno. Maru was the best terran/went the deepest in more seasons, but INno would peak for like one season a year and win it.

According to the community anyway.
While this might matter for G5L, why does it matter here? As of right now, Maru and Mvp and Inno all have 3 GSL Code S trophies. Maru is the only one that might change his trophy count in a week.

Why talk about Serral when 2019 in EU is gonna be about Reynor? /s

GSL Super Tournament from Polt was a super difficult tournament with top 64 players from Korea with even more money than GSL, not the same 16 players and little money we have now.

Because people are literally talking about how Maru might match Mvp/INno's GSL counts if he wins here. Even though he already has.
Besides, his OSL was basically a GSL win given OSL was the name of WCS Korea season 2 that year. And he has an SSL on top of that. If Maru had won two GSLs instead of OSL/SSL in HotS people would have rated him much higher, personally I find that stupid.

sadly i have to agree with you, sometimes tasteless seems like he doesnt even watch what Is going on.., with noregret he called that protoss still have recall avaliable like 30 seconds after being used And captured by observer. I have similiar feelings with ToD, but dont take me wrong I still take them as best casters in the game alongside artosis/rotti/incontrol/maynarde

Fair enough, but the community considers both Polt a GSL champ, and NesTea the first back-to-back champ. Either one or the other is true.

I can't understand how Maru can destroy everyone in GSL and then disappear when he's outside Korea. He would be the best sc2 player ever if it wasn't for how bad he get crushed in every worldwide tournament.

Trap 2-0'd INno and 3-2'd TY this very season. How can he be considered an easy opponent for a terran at all
Maybe because tournament format is completely different than GSL style where you can prep a lot...
Well that series was sick.. Maru looks incredibly strong.. of course he can't win everything but in sometimes he just crushes opponents and let's it look easy...

Dear was litteraly 20-0 vs terran before he faced Maru
