They don't really autoflank they are just fucking fast when they get close to enemy units. Still hope it will be either an upgrade or that they can only charge in a straigth line (that would make microing against it much easier).

Edit: Now they can of course charge however they want. Hope they change it. It's a brilliant idea otherwise.

Yes, I don't like the mothership either. But jump jet infantry, despite clearly being very CnC3/DoW (as well as the stalkers being very CnC3 shock trooper like), seem fun :D

Hm, well, CnC3 is an okay game but I hope it doesn't turn out to be too similar. I found cnc3 quite boring after awhile.Though, the guys at blizzard know exactly what they have to do to make the game succesfull. I hate to use the term faith but I think it is appropriate that we all should indeed have some faith in the skill of the desingers and programmers at blizzard. It's not like haven't been cautious with the starcraft franchise. If they were solely out to get money they would have released like 3 more expansion packs and sc2 about 3 years ago.

Even if some things look weird now, I think it will all work out in the end. We probably won't have the best RTS game ever, but something good enough to replace brood war by converting veterans and luring young people into the scene =).

The game play videos seem a little slow dont you think? And the battles look a little drawn out. Hopefully they make the game fast pace, like the original.

And 3d means that there cant be overlapping sprites. No more stacked Mutas =(

Just some comments on some of the reactions.

- Most of these pictures are probably from the campaign.
- We haven't heard anything about the other races.
- Why be disappointed already? Seriously, just be happy we know a potentially great game is in production. We don't have nearly enough context to judge any of these new changes.

I'm really happy that:

1. Blizzard has stated that their goal is for a fast paced, dynamic sc2 in the spirit of the original starcraft.
2. From the start, their goal is to make "the ultimate competitive RTS".

I think those are two of the most important directions they should go, and I'm glad that they recognize this so early.

me too, I just started reading the FAQ and wondered why so many people were freaking about balance when the first thing Blizzard does in the FAQ is try to reassure the junkies.

"What is StarCraft II?

The only thing I dislike are these tripods and motherships, total garbage and overused ideas, seriously they don't have a place in starcraft! Continious laser stream attacks are also bad, each separate attack should be distinguishable and you should be able to repeatedly move and attack, but with lower overall movespeed than compared to simply moving.

P.S. Jet infantry also sucks, an age old idea, not to mention they are armed with pistols, wtf?! A pistol shouldn't fucking do anything in sc, you have a freaking machine gun dealing 6 damage for a lot of bullets fired, what would a damn pistol do?

Not nearly enough context: The 'motherships' may be weaker than a carrier or battlecruiser, we don't know yet. They also may only be campaign.

Perhaps the jet-pack infantry have very weak attacks and are primarily used for scouting? Perhaps they cost a fuckton to make? We just don't know.

What I really liked is that it will be WinXp, not only Vista with their DirectX10 exclusiveness crap. Well, that's said in the faq, Microsoft can still put some pressure on the table =/

i totally agree. how are there so many people saying "oh...it looks 3d, i'm afraid of new graphics" etc.
its a new game, this is not sc 1. i think it'll be awesome.

Motherships are restricted to just 1 unit max and have very powerfull spells, so there is no sense being weaker than BC/Carriers. Artifical unit restrictions are just plain bad and super units suck twice as much.
If it wasn't limited in number and is not all powerfull, so you need several of them, I don't mind, but a 1 unit army can hardly be both usefull and balanced.

Even if they have weak attacks they should have unleast a rifle, wtf is this pistol bs, why not attacking with their bare hands(a la skeleton karate chops from warcraft 1), that would unleast be badass

P.S. Siege Tanks look awful, but I'm sure they'll change that, after all it's not even a beta

FUCK YEAH!!! World of Warcraft was good for SOMETHING! Now that Blizzy has money up the wazoo, they can make SC2 as frickin' good as it can be.... =D
