(T)aLive and (T)Maru’s BlizzCon hopes may have been dashed, but (Z)Rogue's and (P)Classic's were alive and kicking heading into the third day of the Super Tournament. Classic's match against (T)INnoVation and Rogue's against (P)Dear were the first two of four quarterfinals, with the final one between (P)sOs and (P)herO playing a deciding role in whether or not Rogue would end the day with a shot at BlizzCon.

(Wiki)2017 AfreecaTV GSL Super Tournament 2

(T)INnoVation’s 3CC opening went unpunished in game one. (P)Classic's situation worsened as he lost a warp prism full of adepts. A quad drop wreaked havoc in Classic’s main, while INnoVation zoned out Classic’s army with ranged liberators. Classic never got a chance to fight back and left the game.

Classic opened with a pair of stargates, using oracles to defend against mine drops. From there Classic massed oracles and phoenixes. He caught INnoVation's army in the middle of the map, chased it back and killed everything INnoVation had to tie the series.

INnoVation's proxy barracks delayed Classic's nexus, but Classic killed nine workers with an oracle. INnoVation fought back with cloaked banshees while Classic massed oracles. INnoVation defended before overpowering Classic's fragile fleet with bio/mine/tank.

INnoVation's 2/1/1 did minimal damage, but his mines fared better. They gave him a lead as he maxed out and got ranged liberators. Classic was left chasing drops and liberators and, losing bases and workers, he had no choice but to leave the game as his army finally died.

(P)Dear began the series with three proxied gates. (Z)Rogue survived the zealots and adepts and carried a supply advantage as he teched into hydra/ling/bane. Dear held firm with storm despite owning a much smaller army, but was eventually overrun by lurkers and a horde of zerglings.

Dear managed to assemble a threatening skytoss army on Abyssal Reef. Rogue reset the carrier count with chain fungals and parasitic bomb, but Dear struck back with stalkers and more carriers. Out of minerals, Rogue was unable to take a profitable exchange and left the game.

Game three also went to the extreme late game as Rogue's roaches and swarm hosts failed to break Dear. Dear sculpted an army of carriers, immortals and high templars, but Rogue had a superior economy and was able to produce enough brood lords and corruptors to go up 2-1.

After an ineffective archon drop from Dear, both players macroed up to four bases in game four. Rogue went hydra/ling/bane, with a double digit lurker count. Dear's army ended up surrounded in the middle of the map. He tried to break out with immortals and storm, but failed, giving Rogue the 3-1 victory and keeping his hopes for BlizzCon alive.

Both players opened hatch first on Whirlwind. (Z)soO applied pressure with zerglings while getting earlier roaches, but (Z)Dark was droning and used his economic advantage to build a ling/ravager army that swamped soO's cornered roaches.

soO went for a 13/12 in game two, pooling his zerglings and catching Dark, who had gone hatch first, unaware. Dark tried to get up a spine and defend with queens, but couldn't muster enough of a defense to stay in the game.

Zerglings and banelings fought to a standstill as both players ramped up to three bases on Newkirk Precinct. soO stayed on roaches, but Dark went for mutalisks and then banelings. soO moved out, but took an awful fight. He lost his army then his third and conceded soon after.

It was Dark’s turn to 13/12 on Odyssey. Dark’s lings pounced on soO who had gone hatchery first. soO managed to block his ramp with queens, but didn’t have the zerglings to deny Dark a quick win and a spot in the semifinals.

(P)herO's 3 gate pressure with a proxy gate and oracles bought him a worker lead as both player worked up to a mothership/immortal/archon armies. herO ventured onto (P)sOs' side of the map, getting a better spread on his forces to take the engagement and the game.

herO's early stalker pressure cancelled warp gates and, while sOs defended with phoenix and a mothership core for a time, herO had strength in numbers and a forward warp in point, giving him the muscled required to go up 2-0.

Both players were able to reach two bases, but herO's adepts and phoenixes earned him a worker lead. sOs got a faster third before attacking with blink/glaives, but herO's immortal heavy army was too robust and he shut sOs’ aggression down.

The loss eliminates sOs from the tournament while firmly placing the ball in Rogues court. The Jin Air Zerg has a clear path ahead of him. Win the Super Tournament and he qualifies for BlizzCon. Lose and it will be his teammate, sOs, making the trip to Anaheim.

Oh sOs, what crimes have your fans commited to be tried so hard?
Now I have to cheer against Rogue and for my least favourite player. It hurts me so much, but.... gogo INoVation!

Really hoping mass Oracle doesn't become a thing in PvT as well as PvZ.

sOs is really pulling out all the stops to secure Blizzcon. Recommending builds to Inno so he can beat Classic? I wouldn't be surprised if he informed Inno about Rogue's weak spots too. I guess when the prize is Blizzcon anything goes, even betraying your own race and your own team to help the guy who just beat you in the GSL finals.

Small typo, for herO-sOs : "giving him the muscled required to go up 2-0." muscled -> muscle
Hoping for a Dark-INnoVation finals with Dark winning it

Rogue knows how to abuse swarmhosts and vipers. I think Inno should switch on bio. Mech does not seem viable against Rogue.

Did Innovation throw that last game with Rogue by any chance?

Perhaps he doesn't like SOS or would prefer not to play him in the global finals? :D

Nah, he just got outplayed. Rogue is insanely good right now.

Yaye, he got outplayed by a strong 2-3, what an outplay...

Also KaijuHK I don't think progammer will throw games like that. If INno had to throw he'd have do it against his old friend Classic.

Also TvZ is really zerg favored since hydra buff and rogue is an exceptionnal player so seeing him win 3-2 is unbelievieble

I was talking about the first game. But yeah, he did overall get outplayed. But hey, your signature tells me you're completely unbiased about the matter.

Rogue shut down Inno's mech, but I would say he was 50/50 against his bio. It was hardly a onesided series. Rogue securing the gold base was the key factor in the last game, not some insane display of sheer skill.

Bane mine was impressive but I think Rogue was already in a winning position before that.

If you have nothing pertinent to say then yes go to the signature.

I already saw him got dismantled by Dear or Classic in SSL, liking a player has nothing to do with seeing him fail. But 3-2 is everything but an outplay.

Outplaying happens inside the game. You can't look at a scoreline and say Rogue didn't outplay him. That's just foolish. I saw the games and Rogue looked the better player between the two.

Yes + the fact that Rogue threw a map.

And INno had to be super greedy to win the other

Inno holding a cheese is not exactly the same as Rogue throwing a map. If you're going to say that you might as well say Inno threw two maps by going mech. And speaking of greed, Rogue won the last game precisely because he was greedier (plus the map factor of a gold base).

Winning in the decider match is not a stomp by any means. It was a close series between two players of equal skill, and if they played again tomorrow I would give them both 50/50.

Who's talking about a stomp? I said Rogue outplayed him. That means he played better, which he did.

Well, against players like INno and TY, roach cheeses are throw. Maybe it could work against Byun or Maru, but not against a INno in one of his greatest shape ...

Going mech isn't a throw because not so gamble and and it's proven against Dark.

But Rogue was just too strong today ( practice with the best terran in the world helps a lot I have to say ).
