The final group of the round of 16 took place in the new GSL time slot. Group D was highlighted by a pair of Jin Air Green Wings in (T)Maru and (P)sOs. They were joined by (T)KeeN and (T)Bunny, two in-form Terrans.

The group started with sOs vs Keen. Game 1 featured a failed stalker attack, tank push and colossus move out. In the end it was Keen who ended up on top. sOs won game 2 before losing a blundering affair in game 3, sending Keen to the winner’s match.
Despite Terran's strength as of late, Maru vs Bunny was only the second TvT of the round of 16. Besides two impetuous drops, Maru looked every bit the title contender as he dispatched Bunny without the need of a third game.

The winner’s match was more of the same. A number of excellent maneuvers in game one culminated in a potent doom drop and a Maru victory.

Game two was rather brief as Maru’s proxy reaper build completely dismantled Keen. With that Maru moved on to the quarterfinals and a meeting with (T)Ryung.

sOs vs Bunny kicked off with an adept/phoenix steamroll that put sOs in the lead. Game two was another adept themed stomping. A strong timing with a warp prism was enough to put sOs into the final match.

The final series was a rematch of the day’s first matchup. sOs and Keen went at it again, with the first game taking place on Proxima Station. sOs was keen to end game 1 quickly and he did just that with a devastating adept all in. Game 2 was a demonstration in staunch defense. For the first time in the series sOs sat back, researching blink and glaives of a double twilight council. sOs parlayed that into a strange colossus composition (albeit without thermal lance) that put an end to the game and propelled sOs into the round of 8 where he will face off against (P)herO.

This leaves us with a complete playoffs bracket. Join us on Wednesday 22 February for our first pair of quarterfinals.

The way sOs ADEPTED both Keen and Bunny makes me confused. Did sOs remind other Protoss players that Adept all in is still a very strong strategy vs Terran or these two Terran are just that bad ?
Would it be the same result if sOs play against Inno or TY ?

well let's not forget that sOs can manage to make work stuff that isn't supposed to work : not only he has excellent micro but he is a strategical genius when it comes to find out the one build that will catch his opponent off guard.

You see now why an Adept all in would hardly would work on INnoVation he is too solid and sOs weakness are WM, remember this?

sOs and herO will battle to know who will adept TY out of code S

Otherwise I hope we get INno vs Maru, but Ryung is a wild card in TvT. If I had to bet I'd say the winner will be a T coming out of the lower bracket, and that this T will most likely be INno.

Could sOs beat TY, Innovation, or Maru with an Adept all in? Probably if they didn't see it coming, but he couldn't win a series doing it.

Despite some failures in control (multiple armies sent with move command, at least 3 oracles lost to widow mines early) and decision making, sOs was clearly on another tier than KeeN and Bunny. Unless he seriously steps up his game, he won't be against the Terran gods.

That's not the point. Who won that series? (It wasn't Classic)
sOs can definitely take a game through adept allins, but he can't win a series.

KeeN and Bunny are decent Terrans, but they're nowhere near the Triumvirate.

I think it's a good enough strategy that most protoss will want to have it in their arsenal and terran should put some preparation into dealing with it. But I don't think we're about to see stats use it vs inno. Maybe just to surprise him one game but not in multiple games like sOs did. It'll be really interesting to see what sOs will do if he plays another terran this gsl. The adept thing is not just one build that can be easily identified by terran so it's a constant threat throughout a series. But I don't think it'll have the same potency since the effectiveness we saw was partly due to mistakes Keen and Bunny made. The next terran sOs faces will have a better plan prepared.

the point is that adept allins are too strong against most terran builds and units at early game, you don't even need glaives to win cuz it hits before shields, sometimes I even glad that game have that ez mode and I can offrace 7 gate adept allin in pvt and safe fast carriers in pvz.

Keen caught the first prism and still got bopped. I dno how you prevent 7-gate adept from shading on top of your tanks and killing everything, or at least being extremely cost-efficient.

I don't play T or P, but that just looked super gross and abusive.

Finally pros and people are realizing what i've said for months - 3 nexus PvT tilts the match-up heavily in Protosses favor.

Look at all of the games from last night. Every game P always gets their third before Terran and then just always has a larger army + a warp prism to harrass + can defend 2 base Terran.

All the casters and people that keep saying the match-up is T favored are very biased/clueless imo. You'll see more Protoss realize soon 3 nexus PvT is really easy to play and almost any decision you make after being up 3 base vs 2 is a winning decision vs Terran.

It's not like 7-gate adept is a new thing. I'm fairly certain sOs got destroyed when he went for it against ByuN last GSL multiple times, because ByuN just knew every piece of the build and countered it all.

Keen caught the first prism and still got bopped. I dno how you prevent 7-gate adept from shading on top of your tanks and killing everything, or at least being extremely cost-efficient.

I don't play T or P, but that just looked super gross and abusive.

Small changes in build order, unit composition, building placement, unit positioning, etc, all add up to a massive difference in how effective it is.

In that game, Keen clearly had a plan to harass with a liberator and deflect the warp prism with a viking. The liberator made it so sOs was all-in but it didn't weaken the adept attack much, so if anything it was a detriment to Keen's defense.

The viking prevented the first big warp-in from being in Keen's base, but since that map has a back door expansion, Keen has to defend 3 places to actually benefit: both his mineral lines and the entrance to his base. On a normal map, the entrance and his expansion's mineral line can be defended simultaneously. That first group of adepts just killed a depot and they were in.

With perfect play, Keen could have deterred or killed the 2nd warp prism and held his ramp, and with the liberator harass, sOs's strat would have looked like a joke. But Keen's viking went the wrong way, his mine and marines weren't in position to deter the 2nd prism, his tanks were actually both unsieged. He got outplayed because the prism started to warp in, drawing all his units, but then the prism retreated unscathed and the outside adepts had a chance to bust his wall. He then overreacted to that, which let the warp prism come back and warp in (viking was late to respond).

On that map (proxima), terran can also build a wall between main and natural, which would have helped Keen. He could have raised it when his ramp was busted and defended his main scv line and deterred the warp prism simultaneously.

Trust me, TY (or the other terrans if they go all the way to the final) can watch every single one of sOs's adept games here and see a million things to improve on what Keen/Bunny did in each one. He may also just take a completely different approach (different build order, unit composition) that'll have a lot more preparation behind it than Keen's 2nd attempt did.

That's not to say that it'll be trivial but the point is it's not something to panic about. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the terran pros were embarrassed for their race and are eager to be able to show the world how to shut that shit down. It's not a new strat. Keen and Bunny were just caught off guard and sOs is very clever and opportunistic in how he executes things.

Anyone who watched that $100k match between herO and sOs as it was happening knows the justice that needs to be served. It was such a travesty. I don't blame sOs for doing anything to win, but at the same time it felt like watching someone getting robbed on camera. herO needs to win this.

And that's the reason Byun has fallen this year, he must hope tanks can fly again.

I wonder if it wouldn't have been slightly smarter for Maru to aim for 2nd place.. Ryung's tvt is by far top 3 in the world :s.

As good as he is, I really don't think Ryung is a match for Maru.

I'll give him top 5 but top 3 by far? Definitely not. Also 2nd place plays herO who has arguably the best PvT in the world, that's not an amazing prospect for Maru either.

how the hell could anybody "aim" for second place... that implies loosing one of his matches on purpose, which is in reality no difference than match-fixing. I doubt ANY progamer would risk, being accused of matchfixing, just to get another opponent.

If a progamer unilaterally decides to lose a match, it is neither matchfixing nor illegal. In Starcraft, matchfixing is when multiple parties conspire to fix the outcome of a competitive match in order to profit financially. The reason it's illegal is because it involves contacting illegal gambling rings for personal gain.

Not to mention, if Maru or anyone else decides that he likes the other side of the bracket better, and secretly makes a few mistakes on purpose, how in the seven hells is somebody supposed to know? Matchfixing accusations are leveled when officials notice suspicious shifts in the betting lines, not as a result of player performance (which is ridiculously and unpredictably variable at best). Without any contact with anyone else, without any financial motive, it's completely impossible to produce evidence of wrongdoing.

Look at ByuN's performance in the Ro32, what Artosis called "the most indecisive thing he'd ever seen." Was ByuN accused of matchfixing? (officially that is, not by salty fans)

LA CUCARACHA

Guys, we can't let this go. Don't let tastosis stop making La Cucaracha jokes. Please. These jokes keep me going in the day to day.

I trust sOs to embarrass herO in at least a couple of their games, it's his best talent

To be honest I think a lot of pros have intentionally lost games in group stages in order to get better opponents in the enxt round. It's risky, but can be very good to avoid teamkills/hard opponents. I mean if you are certain you can't beat X in the ro8, you may as well aim for 2nd in your ro16 group for be put somewhere else in the bracket

In certain group stages (the ones where everyone plays everone in the group for points and top 3 get out) it would be stupid for players not to lose certain matches in order to manipulate who else gets out/who they go up against. As long as a player is confident they can get out the group, they should try and help the weaker players also get out (to make the rest of the cup easier)

Now the question is, Afreeca stream says Maru and sOs' match will be on Saturday, but TL wiki apparently doesn't agree, so which should we trust?

SoS had a lot of miscontrol moments with his adepts but he still annihilated the Terrans with them. Not sure how that works...

Well, the wiki Ro.8 bracket is at first page of this thread, seems like someone can update it.
I remember usually the upper half bracket will play first like wiki page shows, but maybe they changed it this time.

Also a fun fact, we could get a team kill final from either Jin Air, KT or SKT since there are two players from each team in different bracket.
But I suppose Jin Air has already locked two Ro.4 spots, whereas KT and SKT have to fight again for the other two spots, just like Proleague playoffs
According to the history, KT will rise to challenge Jin Air as usual, right?
