Teammates Zest and TY duke it out in the GSL Code S finals
Artosis has wrote an article on the upcoming GSL Code S Finals
This has been an unbelievably exciting season of Global StarCraft II League Code S. Well, kind of. Round of 32 and 16 were thrilling and when it came down to the top eight top players, four of these players far superior to the other four. We had two 3-0 matches and two 3-1 matches, none of which ever felt close.
"Okay," we said. "Round of four will have awesome close games!"
Oh, how wrong we were.
There was a huge difference between the top and bottom four players in the round of eight, but there was an even bigger difference between half of the players in the round of four.
Jun "TY" Tae Yang 4-0 Kim "Cure" Doh Wook
Joo "Zest" Sung Wook 4-0 Baek "Dear" Dong Jun
Not. Even. Close.
You could actually see Dear and Cure, two of the best players in the world, fall apart mentally in front of the forces that were their KT Rolster opponents. The differences between the top four players in the world and everyone else is astounding. Not since the days of Jung "Mvp" Jong Hyun and Lim "NesTea" Jae Duk have we seen anything like it.
TY's GSL Code S run is pretty fantastic this season. 15-3. Undefeated vs. Terrans, with his only losses coming against Dear, another top four player this season, and a loss to Kim "MyuNgSik" Myung-Sik, one of the highest variance inducing Protosses of all time. This isn't really all that impressive in comparison, with Zest's GSL Code S record being 15-1.
Let's take a closer look at...

Great read, thanks Artosis for this write up! I really appreciate the technical details that were present in this write-up, as well as taking a step back and thinking about previously seen tendancies.
The fact that it's a team-kill is going to make for some wonky games!
I predict Zest to take it 4-2.
There should be no other outcome. Zest is just looking immaculate.

Good writtance from Arty. Going to watch this with my dog while we chew on some tasty treats from the local food stand. My predicions are that we will see both proxy orcles and warp-prism DT drops as openers.

Definitely one of the better previews I read. Nice to see writers who actually look at both stats and applies some type of qualitative analysis that demonstrates they have been revieweing vods. That said, I think his focus is slightly off as I don't believe Ebay blocking is relevant.
What most likely will matter is whether Ty can best Zest in the later stages of the game. For that to be true I see two conditions that must be fulfilled:
1. Ty must get ahead in the midgame (that's possible). 2. Either Ty must (a) do a timing attack before High Templars are out/Zest doesn't get them or (b) Ty learns how to get Ghosts in a proper time relative to the state of the game so he doesn't have to sit a on a 200/200 no-ghost army while turtling.

Well i think its really hard to predict since teammates. But Im going with Zest vs TY 4-3 & Im just glad to see Starcraft2 getting back some of that E-Sport attention on ESPN. gj Arty

Artosis is perhaps one of the men who single-handedly have done so much for the scene.
Artosis, my main man. I love the guy. You cannot not love the guy.
Perhaps I should write a haiku about it.

No Wonder ESPN is firing Skip Bayless. They got Artosis making content for them.
I want some Artosis v. Stephen A. Smith debates about the state of TvP!

Perhaps I should write a haiku about it. I don't agree, but that's not the point of this thread, so whatever. Glad you're happy.
I am glad he's not fully switched to Passionstone/Heroes of the Passiun. Nice reading.

Zest is hugely favored.
In the last two months, Zest has the following PvT record: 7–0 (100.00%) in games and 4–0 (100.00%) in matches.
TY is 13–8 (61.90%) in games and 7–3 (70.00%) in matches.

Both Artosis and Stuchiu are doing a very good job there at ESPN. I always feel like wanting to read more.
|
It's always good to get some exposure on a more mainstream sports website, but i do wonder how many casual readers who chance upon the article will understand most of the terms used.
|
Nice article, Stuchiu made another great one about Life on ESPN too, it's cool to see high quality sc2 content on this site, hope it will bring hype.
For the finals itself, the last team kill that made a good finals was MVP vs Nestea, Artosis is comparing TY and Zest to them in term of dominance... crossing fingers for good games...

Doesnt everybody in KT beat Zest in a bo series? Flash/Stats/Life and even TY has beaten Zest in a bo3/5 series in the past. Am I wrong?

While you're right that Zest has never won an offline teamkill, he has never been as favoured as this time. And there's a first time for anything.
