This is the best format to see Terran lose twice. I love it.

Great news! I did not think they would react, awesome.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

I thought the single elimination was there to stay no matter what we say, it's pretty cool to see the SKT players back (inb4 they lose again and be out of the competition for good)

They're playing each other, one of them is out already

ah you're right, I forgot they were playing each other, but I guess one game is better than nothing. Hard one since I like both of them

Bo1 was used in Brood War OSL Ro16s and in the WoL OSL Ro16. Granted, those were 4 player round robin groups, so each player played three games. But that still makes Bo1 carry the air of skillfullness.

I remember the WoL OSL, and it had a pretty lousy format as well IMO. But single elimination is something else entirely, and pretty much absurd given the variance of the game at this point.

Lovely! Also I think the winner of winners bracket choosing the first map in the finals is probably the best way it's ever been done. Playing from 1 map up, or starting 2-1, or 2-0 was simply too much and made for a shitty finals.

I mean bo1 single elimination. bo3's into bo5's is pretty much standard at this point. GSL even has/had group stages with bo3's, which is/was pretty good. It's just too sad to see great players knocked out by chance. I hate double elimination too, because it makes for such an anticlimactic grand finals.

Why does it make for anticlimactic grand finals? Because there's a chance you see the same series in the semifinals? I dunno, I like a good comeback story.

Partly, but also because it's a like a dual tournament featuring the lesser players, which I don't find that interesting, even though the winner will be a finalist. I just dislike the dynamic, IMO a tournament should be a linear progression to the top. Maybe I'm just scarred from past MLG formats, where the loser bracket finals got a 0-2 /0-3 initial score or something because he faced off against the "real" finalist previously. THAT's an anticlimactic finals.

Thats a good format change. The best they could do after the 2 games of the stupid bo3 format have been played already. Next season, they can rethink their format again.

Maybe, if the map pool becomes more stable and rounded they can consider making it all bo7 series. Games are generally shorter in lotv anyways...

Well, it's double elimination, that takes some time. And they only get 2 seasons per year. So they have to stretch.

They're not that much shorter. In the most recent BO69 the game time averaged ~14 minutes in 49 games in LotV. A previous BO69 in HotS averaged ~17 minutes.
