We received the order, and look, delivery's here! In preparation for pizza.gg week soon we are here with festivities! And by festivities, we mean lots of pizza, showmatches, and games.
One of the best things about sports is the development of rivalries, and esports is no different. With the prevalence of twitter and one-click opinions, we see dust ups on social media every time there's a high profile event. While some rivals are less "friendly" than others, some players are more than willing to stoke the flames and fight for fun and drama. We've rounded up 4 showmatches to be played on January 16th casted by BaseTradeTV, and we expect to see a little bad blood—fake or otherwise!—boil before they commence.
You know what they say: if you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
January 16 Grudgematches Saturday, Jan 16 7:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
Money Where Your Mouth Is
Swarmhost Supremacy
Pole Position
The King and Queen of Canada
Each match will be a Bo5, winner takes home $500 and the loser will get $250. While players are encourage to talk trash, they will receive no extra points for creative and hilarious insults.
TLO 3-1 Lilbow Snute 3-1 Firecake MaNa 2-3 Nerchio HuK 2-3 Scarlett
Scratch January 17th off your calendar guys, because we're having a VOD Night with BaseTradeTV! Relive some of the greatest moments and games with us at our online viewing party on Discord, where we'll get to hang out, share a laugh, and hopefully not balance whine too much.
The first 100 Americans who arrive on time (or early!) will get a free Papa John's pizza to enjoy while we watch, so don't be late!
We've compiled a list of VODs that we think we'd all love to rewatch, and it includes:
GuMiho vs MMA on Antiga Shipyard from GSTL 2012 S2 Grand Finals
FanTaSy vs TRUE on Whirlwind from WCS KR 2013 S1 GSL
ThorZaIN vs MC on Tal'darim Altar from TSL3
MaNa vs FireCake Just kidding we're not masochists
GuMiho vs Losira on Akilon Flats from GSL Code S 2013 S1
Idra vs MMA on Test Bug from MLG Columbus 2011
And many more!
If you're favorite game isn't on the list, don't worry! We're still finalizing the list of VODs, and you can still let your voice be heard here and on twitter. We might have a few surprise games in store, so make sure to tune in, hang out, and have a slice.
We'll be posting a link here and on twitter when the Discord channel goes live before the event. We'll also post instructions for your free pizza. Make sure to follow @TeamLiquidPro on twitter to make sure you don't miss out! In addition PizzaGG will be hosting showmatches for more games! For full info head over to pizza.gg for more on what else is happening.
Despite how the last event was handled, it's cool to see a major sponsor in eSports. Hopefully this works out well for all involved (including the viewers).
Lilbow's race is shown as zerg. Is that correct, or a mistake?
Also, I can't go to VOD night, but I would love to watch (over stream)
Naniwa vs Jaedong (Dreamhack game 2 if I recall, the one with the sick hold against ultralisks) MVP vs Squirtle (GSL finals, you know, THAT game, with battlecruisers and mothership) Naniwa vs Hyun (IEM? Bo5? Ending with the always balls-to-the-wall 2gate proxy in base)

Meh, as much as I love Scarlett and HuK its hard to get that hyped for that matchup simply because they have played each other so often in show matches, ofc it will be fun to watch but its not like its a unique matchup

while that is true I just enjoy the story. The two of them playing for #1 Canada is enough in it self to tune in

Ya, there should be a prize for best trash talk, as voted by the fans. Make it happen boys!

Discord is very, very reliable. I've never used vent, but Discord is a better teamspeak with irc. From my experience, skype just hogs all the connection and theres all the privacy issues.

wow thank you super for this. Many games I want to see!
I don't see many TLO games, but I love to watch him play. I wish he was a little bit stronger and win a big tournament. He never looks like a real threat, but he is a very nice person who treats the SC2 scene well
My predictions :
TLO < Lilbow 2:3 Snute > FireCake 3:2 Mana < Nerchio 1:3 Huk < Scarlett 0:3
The 17th is my birthday =D I hope I will have time to watch most of it since I'll probably have to spend some time with family.
Anyway if game requests are allowed then I'll chip in with: -DRG vs MMA game 7 of the finals of the Blizzard Cup 2011. - Taeja vs Zest game 3 of IEM Toronto 2014.
The rest of the games I can name are probably too fresh to be worth a spot here. I'd like to mention another True vs Fantasy game though. True vs Fantasy SPL 2014 on Starstation.

I disagree about TLO vs Lilbow, I see TLO winning it 3:1 or 3:2. Also, I don't find it true that he doesn't look like a real threat at all times - he can look like a massive threat and with just one loss it just shakes his play too much. I am still angry at his WCS Season 3 performance where in his first couple of games he looked like a beast and when he gg'd out of that game vs MaNa too soon he played so bad after that.
He also has decent results in Legacy for now(better than Lilbow's, anyway) and I hope he can just take his play that one step needed to be one of the absolute best.

I accept your opinion. I hope you are right with your prediction
besides HuK - Scarlett and maybe Mana - Nerchio the matches seem a bit unfair on the BM side of things. But maybe Snute comes with the nicest bm possible and Tlo... well... i won't say that because i'm not a caster.

Idra vs MMA.. Yea you know the one. Where he made history. Really any game from a polt vs stephano meetup, they were all excellent. Jaedong vs Polt on the lone star clash 3 tournament day9 vs tasteless on the HDH tourny... And of course huk vs naniwa + Show Spoiler +
BitbyBit has to be on the list. Games 1 and 2 of Idra versus Puma are probably the best two games of SC2 I've ever seen, but they are 20 minutes and 32 minutes long.
On January 15 2016 14:27 Energizer wrote: Well jeez if we're including bitbybit, then we have to include actionjesus
I really don't think you can compare them. BitbyBit faced the best players in the world, and had a variety of ridiculously awesome SCV pull builds. Actionjesuz just 6 pooled.
The best part is how much Artosis hates it. You can hear the disdain in his voice.
We need this back in SC2. We need this so badly. One base builds are so awesome, you can just cut the tension with a knife.

Maru vs Dear WCS finals? HyuN vs CJ.herO on Polar Night? (that game where herO won by stalker micro after basetrading) Flash vs Parting on Catallena?(the game where Parting bates mines into Flash's army, though dirty Protoss blink all in) Flash vs Parting - the final game of HSC? Zest vs soO from Code S finals? (e.g. Alterzim game)
Anyway, how about immortal immortals? ZeNEX Life vs Liquid HerO on Antiga Shipyard. + Show Spoiler +
Edit>I found only the Life vs HerO game since the rest is pretty exposed on youtube. But this one game is hard to find(or my Google fu is too low)

No you shouldn't, I was quite shocked by this conversation.
Edit: And I don't care about calories or want to imply that americans should eat more healthy or something. But you just don't dip freaking pizza in sauce. A good pizza is just right as it comes out of the ofen, dipping it destroys the crispness and texture of the dough.
Nice games ahead of us. Just sad there is no other cast avaible, would be really great. Really appreciate the effort Basetrade are putting into the scene, especially for NA, but it´s not my cup of tea unfortunatly.
IMO banelings aren't worth it ZvP because they usually don't kill protoss units but are gone forever after blowing up once. It's different to ZvT or ofc ZvZ where they usually manage to take out units with them.

I think having EG and TL players/personalities cast this, would've fit the event better. Maybe with Rotti as an anchor too. The extra banter and game knowledge would've been great.
Still love BTTV for all they do of course. Maybe they could invite some players to cast with them for the rest of the evening? Not sure if possible, but TLO and other players joining them for 1 bo5 each could be sick .
Now that was really nicely played of TLO. I'm really surprised because I'm used to him choking but I'm so glad he proved my negative expectations wrong and did an amazing job! Well done TLO! Especially awesome holds!

Yeah, that would be great indeed!
Really digged the showmatches they did a couple of month ago with i believe Apollo, ToD and some random pros, with constant banter, even if it was a simple setup outside a studio.

Yeah, gotta love those showmatches. I really hope Rotti/Apollo/ToD will do some soon again!
I also really love it when pros are co-commentating but I am not missing them because the two casters do a great job. They are entertaining and show a good understanding of the game.

In the same boat, here. What they bring is cool, but damn I can't help but dislike the actual casting sometimes.
Also, that "Pay five dollars and we'll hit someone with a hammer" thing really bothered me. Derp.

I generally like BTTV -- actually because of how unprofessional they are, but this just seems like a terrible casting choice for show these particular show matches. Papa Johns (or other) would be idiots to pay money to let their product just get trashed in front of a couple thousand people.
Meh, not my money/product I guess, and the people I wanted to watch already played, so gl hf to the rest.
Edit:

Officially worse than a caster -- though TLO gave him some credit that he's just preparing for SC3.
Let's see how Mana versus Nerchio is going. Nerchio is pretty good in LOTV and MaNa looked horrible so far. Especially the training matches versus Snute that Snute streamed a couple of days ago.
I think Nerchio is going to take this, but I hope MaNa can put up a good fight

It's automatic, but adept shades swapping out counts as a kill so it doesn't work all that well in half the matchups

It's part of the extension mod, not a third party software running alongside the game I think.

I've gotta agree, not impressed by Huk so far.
He isn´t in the best mindset as well, he is tweeting a lot about the current balance, this might affect his performance.
Funny considering he plays the strongest race
In your opinion Protoss is the strongest race in Starcraft 2 currently?
I am trolling a little bit but Protoss players have nothing to whine about to be honest
Did you expect a close series vs Mana? I really thought you'd 3-0 . Mana surprised me.
I don't feel that confident against protoss right now and didn't feel so well today but maybe Mana played well too, hard to judge for me because I made many mistakes

Okay, well hopefully you will feel good for DH! GGs.
I think the reason Huk struggles in macro game pvz's just from this series is he doesn't open stargate. I have a field day with Protosses who don't open Stargate.
GGs to all involved, but was really hoping for some trash talk out of these "grudgematches". I especially know Huk and Scarlett are capable of it, but oh well.
On January 17 2016 06:51 FueledUpAndReadyToGo wrote: For grudgematches there has been very little banter
I have to agree.
The matches overall weren't bad, but it seemed like just another BTTV cast with some super cringe inducing sponsor bashing thrown in. I get that BTTV isn't sponsored by PJ, but that was still just such a painful bit to endure.
