Didn't see this news on TL and I thought it was worth mentionning : there will be no replay pack for DH Tours.
Apparently, in their opinion, the work needed to extract the replays was not worth the low demand.
+ Show Spoiler +It's not like they had enough staff to supervise ro16 anyway...

EDIT : Adebisi reaction :

Its a combination of lack of interest in the past (its often been a few hundred downloads if that) and limited resources and moreso time on our end that we did not collect replays this time. We couldn't recruit as many admins as we usually have and because of the nature of the tournament and event we need to get the PC area converted for other games and then tear it down (after the last finals ends at midnight we tear down the entire stage and are out of the venue by 3am). When there is 32 matches going at once, sorting through all replays to remove all ladder games and other warmup games even if we help automate some parts with SC2Gears is a lot of work.
We're going to make sure we have replay packs for the upcoming SC2 tournaments this year.

"Low interest" might be a slightly incorrect statement... but oh well.
|
Personally I love replay packs. Analysing replays is so much easier and less time consuming than watching a vod with all the redundancy added.
|
There goes my respect for DreamHack.
|
That's one of the most pathetic excuses I've ever seen. Everyone is interested in replays and also how do they know that people weren't interested before the tournament even started? Other than that it's no news that dreamhack doesn't give a fuck about sc2 anymore.
|
Really showing they care. haha Maybe next time they will just shut down the tournament due to "low interest"
|
Cute excuse. Next time admins will have to go to the swimming pool right ?
|
I'll just quote what messioso posted on Reddit here for reference:
Just for a reference, the download amounts from the recent IEM tournaments.
Toronto ~ 10k Taipei ~ 12k World Championship ~ 15k
This doesn't factor in that websites like spawningtool also add our replays to their systems and I can't track that. I also cannot verify download stats for a few of the mirrors I have used, and some people may have downloaded from multiple mirrors.
There is a demand, in my opinion.
I'd agree with his opinion.

However if they are pressed for manpower, it's much more useful to invest the time into getting enough admins to oversee the games instead of releasing replays.
|
Guess all of their production value went to waxangels salary or something
|
Well they can't be pressed for an admin for FanTaSy vs HyuN, why should they be pressed for replays. Does DreamHack even care about SC2 now because I'm certain there was plenty of interest in replay packs for previous DH events

Losing Ohlen and not being the main game wasn't important they said.

Weren't they always pretty late, like a month after the event finished? Maybe that's influenced it, since IEM puts their replays up a few hours after the grand final and their numbers are great.
|
Dreamhack seriously needs some PR advice
|
You can always argue "low interest" when not providing something hahaha.
|
Where exactly did they make a survey to find out that the community has a "low interest" in replays?
|
There's low interest because they are always very slow at releasing

What's the point of releasing them so late anyway? I can see that pro players don't want their replays to be studied, but if ESL releases them immediately, I don't understand why Dreamhack shouldn't.
But I agree, it seems like the only reasonable explanation to the fact that the amount of downloads for DH replays is 100 times lower than for IEM.

I have never watched a replay in sc2 but ~12k people are watching from replays? That is a small number if you consider that in that replay-pack are ALL games and some people dowloaded multiple times.

You don't usually download those big ass files mutiple times. And generally you don't want those replays to "watch" you want them to learn and analyse all the info that you're always missing when watching a stream...

I can not speak for everyone else but from my part I downloaded all the replay packs that I found on TL . Still it is not surprising from their part . It is a lot of work and no quick reward . Just the thanks of the ones like me who download their replays for free . I can see how that is not enough incentive when you are trying to run a business.
I am so happy that TL has found a way to have their passion be their business. Because their passion is my passion too and when I can, I support them.
The only reason I attended Dreamhack events was to see my Starcraft favorite players,up close. And I did . And it was amazing.I even bought tickets when I could not attend. When they stopped starcraft I stopped buying tickets. My choice , and I am aware that I am not part of the majority.
Good reaction from Adebisi , it is one thing to drop a game from DH, and a different one to alienate the people who love that game. That does not help them at all .

Thanks for the clarification Adebisi, I personally enjoy having replays to watch as I find them better to analyse than vods so knowing you're going to work on getting replay packs for the rest of circuit is great to hear. Maybe you should kidnap messioso and clone him to do the dirty work for you

"low interest" uhhh, did they ask or did i miss something?
|
Adebisi, your answer makes a lot of sense at least. Thank you for that :D
