Also really sad that Korhal Floating Island (the Proleague version) is not available, it was a really interesting and unusual map.

Can someone explain to me why?, I was not really active during that time. It's like trying to have a fist fight in a telephone booth. Isnt Xelnaga Caverns smaller? XNC and Steppes are the same size. Blistering Sands is the only smaller ladder map, but not by much. Yeah but Steppes has an enormous main feeding into the natural. The key is that the distance from natural to natural is super short. XNC has more distance separating them.

I really hope it makes it back into the rotation. Sure it's not remotely balanced, but those that don't like it can veto it, and for the rest of us it'll be a fun map to experiment on. I'm sure there are a ton of builds that only work on Steppes and nowhere else. Oh yeah, and why isn't Scrap Station in the mix? I loved the concept behind Scrap Station/Paranoid Android.

This is just a guess, but I'm thinking the Protoss tempest shooting your main from their main might be part of the reason. (I haven't checked this, it just seems plausible.) I miss Scrap Station, I think it was a neat map even if the natural was a beast to take and as a Terran some of my wins came from picking up and floating to the island.

Shattered Temple Shakuras Plateau Tal'Darim Altar Ohana Bel'Shir Vestige Whirlpool I think having a rush map would be a genuinely interesting experiment. SC2 has evolved drastically from when Steppes and XNC were last played and I don't think anyone can say exactly what the outcome will look like. It throws a total monkey wrench into what can be a stale and predictable metagame and I think it would be a breath of fresh air. And if a map like Steppes does get in...if that's what the majority of people want to play, who's anyone to tell them their conception of fun is wrong?

That map forced everyone to play different tactically, even if they could play a standard build. It's practically Heartbreak Ridge. shhh don't talk BW names, i'm worried they'll announced longinus II remake well a lot of the best sc2 maps are remakes or heaviliy inspired... I saw you have a terran icon. THat's why longinus doesn't strike fear in your heart :p

I think the outcome of playing maps like Steppes or XNC will be no surprise at all. If sc2 has evolved for sure, some points have also been definitely made : protoss needs an efficient way to wall against zerg, it needs maps that enables effective force fields to hold heavy pressure in the early game, terran needs maps that are not a hell to hold blink allins, on some maps drops where already a pain, it wont get better cause of medivac boost, being a protoss player I'm not sure of that but I think terran also needs to wall off against zerg etc... This is not really wanting to tell everybody what fun should be like, or what the game should be like. It's just knowing that on those maps allins and cheeses will be the rule, and after a few games this will be no more fun for anyone who takes the game a litle seriously. It just seems to me that people have forgotten what the game was like on those days. I wont mind having those maps in a dedicated part of the game, unranked or something. But in the ranked ladder ? Come on.

Come on. Quite this. Most of those old maps just don't abide to the basic rules that make a map not good, but playable. It's not a question of metagaming or strategical thinking, just viability.

If you hate Steppes of War, it will be a good reminder to those who voted for it that the map is shit It's a win-win situation really.

Liquipedia says this will happen for blizzcon iirc thank god. this pretty much makes the whole thing fine IMO as im under the impression most pros do their serious practice in customs anyway? (although hendralisk could certainly feel free to correct me?!) As far as NA players go, I think all just play on ladder lol
