It's practically Heartbreak Ridge.
shhh don't talk BW names, i'm worried they'll announced longinus II remake
well a lot of the best sc2 maps are remakes or heaviliy inspired...

Yeah it's something that hasn't been too insisted upon, but the absence of Frost (at least in the poll) is an abnormality.
I guess I'm not the only one to find this idea of old maps for the next ladder season stupid ? Those maps are totally unbalanced giving the current metagame, the hots extension and the latest patchs. Even if you rule out the worst maps ever like steppes of war or xel naga caverns (wtf those maps seriously), you still for example have the problem of blink allins rising again.
I really dont get blizzard thinking. As if recently there wasn't enough a bad mood in the sc2 community, giving the permanent protoss bashing and balance whining. This map pool will totally fuck up statistics, and probably no pro will train on ladder anymore. Damn even me, I will probably not play ladder with those maps.
I voted only to rule out the worst maps to me (as a protoss or simply as a "serious" 1v1 player) but I dont like this idea at all.
I'm kind of curious how this will pan out for the Pro scene, could this be the first time since SC2 existed that not a single Laddermap will be played in the professional scene?
Could this mark the switch from Laddermaps = proscene maps, to a full on community mappool for Tournaments?
I can't imagine Steppes not getting put in unless Blizzard just intervenes and denies it even after putting it in as a vote. So many people are going to pick it just cause they think it's funny
I voted steppes not because it's the trollsy thing to do, but emphasizes on the spirit of the map pool, if we're gonna get ridiculous maps, why not go full crazy and see what comes out of it.
as for the pro-scene, what I assume tournament organizers/pro's will do, is continue on the current map pool, though I would really like to see them move to community maps, this is the ideal moment to do so and might be a missed opportunity otherwise.

I totally agree here. There are so many great maps at the moment, and it is probably the best time to do so with the new map pool we're going to have
Jesus, reading this thread thus far has really put a dampener on my mood regarding next seasons maps
Started off pretty excited to see how the meta would work on these old maps, left feeling depressed about the state of SC2. Pretty standard emotional range for a SC2 discussion.
Lets inject some positivity into this thread guys! I'm going to love seeing what Catz can do with the new map pool.

I would be excited to see what CatZ could do with a NEW and nonstandard map pool, much like the maps of TLMC3 were. That would be way better than putting old broken maps just for lol's sake

There are definitely some maps with a little tweaking that I can see working.
I feel hypocritical whining about this as I've been pretty vocal about maps being rather homogenous these days. However from pickup games with friends on the likes of Scrap Station they are simply BAD maps to play on.
I've long advocated less rotation in the map pool, and a bigger map pool with more vetoes. You could keep more of the classic, functional but subtly different maps around for longer to have people develop them even further, while enabling toes who are bored of them more chances to veto.
