The first episode was rough as I am finding my feet as a host and producer, but things will be much better next week. Please feel free to leave feed back so we can improve and make things better. There were a lot of things that were left out of this episode, but I think the first one of next week is going to be much better.
I hope lycan considers giving you persmission, i really enjoy your quick mp3 uploads. The longer it takes for mp3 to be uploaded, the less interested i am usually in listening to them :S

Thank you!
Me too, that's why I made this solution in the first place.
Enjoyed the show, however a few comments I would make.
As a host you need to be speaking a little more. It felt a bit like the guests were running the show. You do not have to be the one giving the answers to the questions, but as a host you want to be summing up arguments periodically. Not in an obnoxious way but just occasionally saying things like, "so we feel like this is the outcome..." and let it lead on to other things.
Another thing is as a host you need to have a bit more knowledge. Not knowledge and game ability but just raw knowledge of the Sc2 scene. You should not need to look up in a show match info if possible. You are asking players to bring the expertise, you want to bring raw information. Who played x vs. x at dreamhack? You want to be the guy who booms the answer out.
Hey, Lycan. Thanks for the show. I really liked the one episode that I was able to listen to. Please remember that a lot of us can't watch live, and most of the topics are stale after a week or two, so timely VOD's and mp3's are essential.

We took the Windows 10 approach
Actually, there was a small issue getting episode 2 up. It was taken down, but it's coming up NLT tomorrow. Really sorry about the hold up for those who didn't get to catch it live.
(Episode 3) Concerning the first segment, I also agree that there are just too many issues mixed in the gamergate hashtag and as with most controversial stuff, people look at it in black and white. You should watch this video by George Weidman, a journalist who does game reviews and gaming related editorials:
Also, in all honesty, I don’t understand why Thorin went off the way he did, Lycan asked him a simple question, essentially the same question he asked Richard – combining the issues of journalistic integrity, the relationships journalists have with the people they write about and the current situation in esports, what do you think is the biggest problem right now. Even if Thorin didn’t listen to Richard’s answer, the question could as well be understood as “last thoughts on the topic of gamergate?” There is no need to go on a tirade and sorry but Destiny had only a small part in the Poland incident.

Please give me permission to host mp3s of your podcast. I don't expect you to thank me or anything, and I certainly will not earn any money doing this. However what I'm offering is a service for your fans including me, where they will be able to get mp3 almost immediately. Quite a few people have requested that I include your show.

What this guy said, I'm super busy these days and it would be great to listen to the audio while at work. Latest show was good, albeit I'm only about halfway in
I couldn't agree more with Rotti on the inbuilt tournaments for SC2, have varying entrance fees from free to £15 make them 32 players each blizzard take 10% or other small percentage and then the rest gets spread for top 3. My only fear is that this will dilute ladder a bit because the good players will do tournaments.
It's the biggest no-brainer there has EVER been since SC2 launched. They'd already implemented it with good results in WC3 ffs!
That's not even including it as a potential revenue stream of sorts. Wouldn't be massive amounts but opening a hypothetical Bnet automated tournament system to tournament organisers and taking a small cut of things.
I don't even think they need SC2 to be profittable - as a company they're making money from Hearthstone and WoW and it's in their interest to support a big IP like Starcraft from that money. So money or resources aren't really a valid reason why some features haven't been implemented yet...

It is a valid reason. They are weighting the cons and pro's, and losing money is definitely a con. Satisfying a small niche is really just a very little pro.
Do you think Dota 2 was making money day one? As a company Valve has good money from Steam so they invested in Dota 2 and over time the design decisions they made turned into several revenue streams. Sure, making money would be nice but Blizzard can afford to invest into SC2, they just chose not to (development-wise, at least).

I guess that would fall into online gambling in many countries, making it illegal.

It might work if they let you use money from your B.net balance, similar to how the Steam Wallet is set up. However they would then need to have more stuff you could do with that balance, such as a skins economy a la DOTA2/TF2/CS:GO.
Having the ability to bet skins on tournaments and such would also be a big boon for viewership (just take a look at CS:GO's numbers this year). And since the money stays in your battle.net account I don't think the same gambling laws apply -- not 100% sure about that though.
Lycan thinks they will make compeittive multiplayer F2P??? 90% probability according to his estimate.
Why on earth would Blizzard do that without any monetization model. And why would they increase infastructure costs in order to develop a monetization model to a game that casuals don't enjoy and has limited potential anyway... I give it less than 1% probability of occuring as it makes no sense whatsoever.
Blizzard is going to milk the last money out of LOTV, and then reduce costs and focus on genres with more earnings potential.

Probably 7-8 years into the future. The gaming market will be very different at that time so who knows.
Loved the last episode, should definetely try and bring QXC on the show as much as possible :D Liking his whole attitude towards the game.
I never understood why we didnt get microtransaction in sc2, surprised none of the guests mentioned it but ANNOUNCER's would make me give Blizzard soooo much money.
I'd pay for Raynor telling me to mine more minerals.Kerrigan and Abathur telling me to spawn more overlords. Or involing Community members, having Day9 tell me that i must "constuct additional Pylons". Honestly each of these for like 5€ I'd buy several and spend so much on this.
I'm really loving the show thus far. Kane and QXC are excellent additions to the show and add a lot of great discussion. Destiny is always good and you facilitate discussion well, Lycan.
Yeah, poor guy, that was some obvious trolling x).
Concerning Destiny I and Remax, you have to look at the context - They were talking about Madals' tournament, there were Feardragon and Rifkin on to talk about their tournaments so they mentioned Destiny. In theory, getting paid for your work is a necessity. The esports reality is that people build their brands, sacrifice their own income and maybe later profit – just compare the financial reports from Madals’ and Destiny’s tournaments.

Hacking and downloading special protection - no, that's silly - Blizzard owns the game so fix the game. Fix the engine so it doesn't hog one CPU core, fix the map so that it doesn't have the information about your opponent under the fog of war (like DotA 2 does it). That's how you deal with hackers in general, not just for the progamers. There is no need to make any special software, it needs to be in game, period.
Lillekanin - in general we have history of no contest rules, and he's being an ashole - punishment is a no-brainer.

Oh sick, looking forward to the Swarmhost showmatches, i hope blizzard fixed the rallyepoint /locusts bug that we saw @ Nathanias showmatches with TLO and Mana last week. Sadly it made them impossible to really trying them out.
Incase we can ask questions here as well :
Would you guys enjoy an overall +25-35% HP increase across the whole game to all units/buildings to allow for longer fights/make micro more important? - maybe readjust some splash dmg to make Bio not too effective (similar to one of the showmatches from imbaleague that husky did a while ago , where they halfed all damage)

The No Rally + Locust is intended, you can read it in the patch notes.
As for the latter, I would prefer a -25% attack speed and -15% move speed across the board. upping HP messes a lot more with balance IMO.

No i meant the glitch where they dont attack after they landed near a building. And the glitch where they didnt land where the rallye point was set, but to the closest unit possible attack even tho you rallied behind. (TLO and Mana tested this with Probes in the game on Catallena)

Oh, sorry, then I don't know what I'm talking about ^_^
I wanted to give you all an update on things from my end.
First and most importantly, a thank you. To all of you who have tuned in, be it once, twice, or every week. I will do this show for as long as I have guests willing to appear and a few people willing to watch. Also, thank you for your patience with the technical issues. I know we have them far too often and I appreciate those who stick around to still watch beyond my X-Split issues.
Let's talk about the state of the show.
When I began brainstorming The Late Game last June, I envisioned a well oiled eSports machine. Rapid fire commentary, deep analysis, fun banter, and a solid production. If you've watched any of the recent episodes, you would know the product is a few light years off from my goal.
I haven't lost sight of this dream. My hosting has greatly improved from episode 1 and the production is unarguably better, but that doesn't say much when you compare it to the travesty of the episodes leading up to the holiday break.
I'm working on making the production evolve in the direction I originally envisioned. To do this, I am trying to book guests well in advance. If I know who my guests are more than a few days before we go live, I can actually script the show and prep discussion points that will bring the best content out of all involved.
If you know a pro or personality that you would like to see on the show, please reach out and let them know that I am looking to book for the following dates. This will be a huge step in improving the production.
March: 4, 11, 18, 25 | April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Paying Guests
Since the first episode last year, I have had two guests that required payment to appear. However, when I had spare income, I made it a point to tip as many guests as possible. As of now, I'm resolving to pay every guest that appears on the show. The rate will be determined on a case by case basis by how much money I have at the time.
VODs
Real talk. I have always sucked at uploading VODs. However, the past few episodes have had some major hiccups in content and production and I don't have the time or skill to video edit and make the VOD somewhat pleasurable for the viewer to watch. Until I can hire someone to do this for me, I would rather not post a bad VOD and waste your time with the shitty recording. This is where getting my shit together production wise will help. When I don't have 5 minutes of X-Split dickery at the beginning or mid-show implosions, I can go back to posting the VODs, and I'll do it right after the show.
Growth and Future Goals
The Late Game and Lycan League have both shown a lot of growth. The content is nearing 25K monthly viewers between the two productions (obviously, a major thanks to BaseTrade casting the Lycan League for that number). Since I fund the prize pool and production myself, I believe it may be time to put together a portfolio and approach sponsors. The crux is fixing The Late Game's production. Once I have 5 straight episodes with flawless production, I'll feel comfortable enough to ask a company to sponsor my content.
Beyond growing content production, I want to grow myself. eSports is part time for me. Not that I don't want to be full time, but I couldn't do what I do if I didn't have a full time career. I want to work as a creative director or producer at some point in the future. That would be an "end game" stage when transitioning to a full time career in eSports. Until then, my short term goals are to grow my hosting skills and game knowledge. I want to host a DreamHack panel, WCS group, maybe do something at HSC, and one day cast a game. I'm quite far from the latter, but I'll get there. So between running Lycan League and making The Late Game a production you can depend on and love, I'll be working to grow as an analyst and host to achieve those goals.
Final Thoughts
I know I said my thanks at the beginning, but I really wanted to reiterate the sentiment. I feel blessed to have the success I do. I'm not an "old boy" or eSports corporate big wig. I haven't done anything incredible. I'm just a dude who started a tournament that gave away free pizza and went from there, and your support has made it worth everything. It's because of Starcraft's community that I have been driven to keep producing content and I love you all for giving me that gift.
On February 28 2015 07:54 Lycangrope wrote: flawless production
You might want to consider the production around the show as well. On the Youtube channel the episodes are all out of order and there doesn't even seem to be a playlist with just the TLG episodes.
Also, the first post of this thread should have a list/table structured like this: <Episode #> - <guests> - <topics> - <Youtube link> - <Twitch link> - <audio link>
From my own point of view I am not massively fussed about production as long as the content is good, often I listen audio-only anyway and watch for the replay analysis section (which is a great addition)
I think people are a bit spoiled in terms of production and what to expect and place it on a pedestal almost above actual informative discussion and other content.
Not to say that things can't be improved but I've loved this show. Also one thing I don't believe gets enough credit is that it brings in a lot of guests and is less subject to the kind of exclusive/insider vibe that permeated latter-day SoTG
the show is what it is man, dont worry too much about the production, its as good as anything else and really (no offense at all) ur pretty new, people know ur platinum so that whole feeling u get from the sc2 community as lerss than masters has no idea, so people may not want to show up or come forward when you have desrow to contend with as well, someone people know and have been around since thr start really. There arent that many people and covering the same content as the other show, the pro players or personalities may think their time too important to go over what theyve already said twice.
For me, personally i like the show, it seems to have less goof, and awkwardness, ur presentation is better, stature seems better, other shows as likable as a lot of these personalities are there are have too many moments to me where i have my head in my hands thinking, do these people actually go out and talk to people who are non fully committed to gaming . . urs doesnt suffer this as much. Destiny is an asset. The recent rant over the people coming back to the scene and the way he perceived that tweet from day9 as a foot in the door for the LOTV show parties was spot on. I agree completely.
I don't know if Destiny reads this, but man, I so much agree on the return and "not complaining when they could" topic. So much thanks for people like him. Thumbs up, man!

Since the Legacy of the Void beta comes out the day before The Late Game, I want your input on what we should do for the show! Should we have the show as usual? Make it a review of replays for the beta? Reschedule for the week after?
I really enjoyed the show, these kinds of podcasts or whatever you want to call them are very inspiring andn needed by the community. Is there anu schedule for when the next one is going to be aired? I'll gladly follow this kind of content.

Very hard to choose between regular show and beta replays. Can't it be both?
Also ep20 was great. Certainly one of the most enjoyable yet. Would have been even better without the winter crap, but hopefully this will be the last time
If I had a hammer I'd build a show for you And if I had a reddit account I'd post about it too

Really enjoying the show Lycan, you've improved a lot since the first episode! One thing that I think you could still do a little better on though is directing the flow of conversation, if that makes any sense. For example, there were times on the last episode where TB just kind of droned on and on about the same point. I get it, G2A is evil and I won't support them, next topic please! Haha. (No offense to TB, I love the guy, I just don't need to hear the same point repeated a thousand times)

Thanks for the feedback! This was a really fun show. I absolutely love this panel. However, to only my own discredit, it was a reminder that I have a lot of learning left to do. These are some powerful personalities and I have a lot to learn about moderating this many at once.
Hey Lycan, will you discuss the apparent match fixing in the Korean scene because today Pinnacle yet again had to void a bet. It suggests that Soulkey threw the first map in a way just like Richard Lewis said iirc.

topics shouldn't be decided by guests. guests should only come on if they have something to say about the relevant topics in the scene.
I don't follow other games so I don't mind the random tid-bits of e sports drama to be honest.
Yeah it's quality stuff. Love the different characters and the joking, like Jak sometimes can't beleive what RL and Destiny say, it's hilarious to watch his face :D.
Now some actual Starcraft stuff and economy talk coming, gonna be good with Jakatak on the show .

Problem is when you have noone to plays devils advocat. This should be a discussion show not a "complaint"-show.
I tihnk the combination of Richard Lewis and Destiny made for a bit of a tasteless show today. I kind of felt uncomfortable watching and I'm not that easily put off. I think if you put those two guys on together you're going to need some serious counterweight so they don't take over the show and make it a cynical dick measuring contest.

The show would be better without him, whenever he comes on he gives his cynical journalistic "Im right because I do research" opinion and it just makes me turn off the stream

How dense are people like you who think that the dirty money of people like G2A flowing into the scene somehow has no consequences and isnt worthy of discussion?
Don't mistake your petty boredom for any fault on our part. Your lack of interest in a topic is irrelevant. Oh and fie on me for promoting a damn event. What is it with you random forumgoers who feel the need to shit on event organizers? The constant whining about the decline of the scene from the community and yet the people actually trying to do something about it have to deal with bottomfeeders like yourself constantly complaining about people having the AUDACITY to actually promote their event. Yeah if I'm gonna commit 2 hours of my time to a show damn right I'm gonna promote something. That time could be spent making money elsewhere. Make no mistake, someone with a big following coming on a smaller show is a benefit to that show, so damn right there should be a little bit of quid pro quo. Why do you think celebs go on talk-shows? To promote their latest project. Same principle, smaller scale.
Inb4 people whine about arrogance because they cant face reality.

How about you spent less of your precious time on Twitter or arguing with random forumgoers? That time could be spent to make money.

I like TB and I'm aware certain people are allowed to bend the rules a little but this calling people a moron has to stop imo.

Pretty sure we can call TB a moron too. In case we can't though or if it can't be too blatant for us plebs, you could sandwich "TB is a moron" with other text to obfuscate the intent.
Really wasn't a fan of the Richard Lewis segment at all. He admitted fault in a lot of ways, and then just bitched and called everyone nasty names. Then he insulted Wizecrax who was a mod on the stream and just continued blathering on. I just couldn't take it, and had to turn off the stream this week.
Yeah, I didn't like the Richard Lewis segment too much, to be honest. You can't just go around and start calling people names when they have no way to respond to you because they are either not watching the show or are a moderator in the Twitch chat. Oh, and someone playing devil's advocate in Richard Lewis vs random reddit mods case would have made it more interesting, instead we only hear one side of the story. I think here it is the responsibility of the host to dig deeper and explain that the other side may also have rational reasons.
About TB: I would have felt a lot more comfortable if Axiom wasn't sponsored by a company that is in competition with G2A. But the promotion of the Tournament was completely okay, that is what I expected as well to happen.
To Lycan: I like your show, but I think you could improve by starting a topic in a better way:
Describe the situation as neutral as possible, ask one guest what he thinks about the situation and then continue from there. This applies to all topics, not only guest-specific ones like Shoutcraft, RL vs reddit mods.
For example: "So the Lurker in the most recent patch has received a buff, namely that it starts with a range of 9, before it required Hive-tech and research at the Lurker den to upgrade it from Range 6 to 9. Destiny, do you feel like this change makes it viable for Zerg players to use Lurkers or do you think the Ravager-Roach-ling combo is still prevalent?"
After destiny said his comments:
"Nathanias, will the Lurker buff change the way Zerg can approach Terran mech or will cyclones still dominate?"
What you did: "Destiny, tell us about the Lurker and what changed for it in the recent patch"
Just my opinion of course, I think the host part could be a bit more accentuated, but otherwise a show I enjoy watching.

They could always make a reddit post about it, to even the score

it's funny when people who had shows before and retired or got caught boosting their news on reddit and left leaves an emptyness for others to step up. It's awsome tho. Keep it up!
Omg this stupid mech argument. Seems like people have already rewritten history and now Innovation only won gamescom because of turtle mech despite only meching in one game that ended at 19 minutes.

I am really sad that in the last show you all denied any cheating possible in SC2 and touched it only in shallow mode. Maybe you should check the cheating thread here, it cannot all be "stream sniping"/"stream cheating".
@Lycan: the bw community was a bit dissapointed with the "BW Hype, Tastosis casting in english" segment in the last show. I actually liked the show and think the cast was pretty insightful. I think many of us would have hoped for some equally insightful comments on the topic, but it was a bit short and stated only the obvious facts. so, i hope this appears a constructive appeal to you, not as a bash. Keept it up man.
The quality of TLG has fallen off, and it's entirely due to my schedule. Between insane work hours/travel for work and buying a house, I haven't had time to stay on top of SC2, book proper guests, plan discussions, etc. It wasn't until I started the new job in November of last year that I realized my two days off a week were why I could run so much content.
That doesn't mean I'm done with SC2 content. Firstly, this is a hiatus. I fully intend on bringing the show back as soon as possible. Secondly, I have two other shows that I will be running in the mean time.
The Evolution Chamber - I can't give details right now, but since the first season back in December/January I've hinted at a second season of the show. Now that the details have been worked, in the very near future I'll be announcing when it is and what's changing.
Tactical Pause - This is a general eSports/gaming show I debuted a few weeks ago. It will occassionally be SC2 related, but being a 10,000 ft. view of the different scenes takes the pressure off of me to lead in-depth analytical discussions and makes it easier for me to deliver on a regular basis.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm not going anywhere. Just changing the content output a bit.
