meh You talk like it's illegal. You talk like its not illegal. Can we start handing out punishments for people that accuse sponsors of illegal activity? This defamatory nonsense helps nobody.
I agree.
It's completely legal in the country that they are sponsoring in. It's not like they are being sponsored by drug dealers. Everything here is legal and legitimate.

Everything here is legal and legitimate.
definitely legal, but "legitimate" leaves a lot of room for interpretation... if were on the team, i would not feel especially confident in having my livelihood contigent on the bitcoin market (presumably the investment behind the sponsorship, even if it's not the actual currency being transferred).
still, more sponsors is better than fewer sponsors, so good for axiom!

1. Axiom has other sponsors 2. It's not like esport games usually survive for 20 years, so the people doing the sponsorships don't have to be stable. Everything in esports is very shorterm. 3. It's not a company giving sponsorship, rather donations in the /r/Bitcoin subreddit.

I guess they need to actively market their product now that the bitcoin bubble is popping.

Anyway, I guess DogeCoin will probably jump into this at some point since their joke-currency is doing pretty well.

TotalBiscuit more like TotalBadass. Congratulations Axiom!

It's not "trolling" to mock bitcoin, it's rational and helpful. It's essentially a weird internet stock market with no real law to prevent the abuse of it. The number of people who run bitcoin sites and servers and have literally taken the money and ran is hilarious, not to mention innocent people who tried to make money off bitcoin and essentially just stole the equivalent amount of money from their parents via the electric bill.
I am all for new types of sponsors getting involved in the Dota scene, but one that is not stable or productive is probably not a good direction for a scene that has already been scammed by a couple of managers this year. I made this post without even going into Silkroad or any of the typical bitcoin use, really I just wanted to mention the minimum to explain the reaction in this thread being a logical one.

It is NOT essentially a weird internet stock market.
You're not helpful or rational when mocking.

I make a half dozen points and you reply to one of them without explaining why you are right and I am wrong. You did the opposite of being helpful while complaining that I was not helpful? Please re-read your post and consider what it accomplished beyond blindly showing support for bitcoin.

As it turns out, people steal/waste dollars too. Shockingly, the drug trade also predates bitcoin. I have always been a bitcoin skeptic myself, but this is the thread to celebrate a sponsorship for Axiom, not a general debate on the currency itself. If you want to have that debate, find the thread for it.... or perhaps go to /r/bitcoin

better to just drown out the haters with the 'congrats!' posts tbh
frustrating as it may be, this is after all the internet. Besides, the sponsor is a subreddit! Surely they are aware of ppl being annoying on forums

No, it's not freedom of speech.
Firstly it is illegal for an individual to spread lies about an individual such as let's say me telling your boss or a girl you are interested in, that you have a sexually transmitted disease, essentially anything that tarnishes your reputation falsely cannot be said. I think a similar stance can be taken for companies when blind insults are given, I don't know exactly how the law works in this case, and I imagine individuals get more protection, but I think it's completely reasonable for TL to take that stance.
And number two, if you want to support esports, really the worst thing you can do is just call out sponsors and calling what they do illegal and blah blah. Like if it's some really big and clear stuff, I get it. But there is no evidence that /r/Bitcoin is doing anything wrong.

Luckily TL is better than that. And teamliquid does a great job of hammering down most of the people that behave like the "general internet".
Just remember, teamliquid does not say anywhere they condone free speech. Teamliquid tries to be reasonable as possible, however if your beliefs are way different from teamliquid and are deemed to be harmful, you will be removed. Considering they own the website they have every right to do so as well.

The people who just want to argue against bitcoin in this thread are really annoying.

If you were a player you'd understand that a small sponsorship like r/bitcoin makes next to no difference monetarily and not a single shred of their salary is "contingent" on the bitcoin market.
But that would require common sense.

Bitcoin is, and always will be, a joke... (It was invented from NOTHING and exists as NOTHING, and can be created with Dell PCs. It will never be a legitimate international currency)
But I do wish TB and Axiom the best in their endeavors. They really are a fantastic group, providing tons of opportunities to SC2 players(and especially displaced Korean pros), so them getting a sponsor is a good thing in general
