Jaedong? Dear?

OP should add the qualified players to get a more clear picture: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/IEM_Season_VIII_-_World_Championship

not with the quality of their play lately

Except 90% of the top progamers tried qualifying in the region qualifiers so that statement is very misleading. Traveling to Poland to play in an open qualifier in a winner take all championship is more risky, but obviously a lot of players wanted a chance to come because the region qualifiers were completely stacked, especially the korean qualifier.

I think this tournament is guna be so much fun to watch, and I'll be happy for whoever wins the 100k and sad for the runner up who misses out on it all it's definitely going to change someone's life for the better though and that's a good thing. I am hoping that it isn't someone who already has won tons of prize money in their career though like Jaedong or MC, but i'm very excited to see how this turns out

I bet that a lot of that 90% would have decided not to go anyways even if they won the qualifier though.
It's cool to get flight paid for and get to participate in a foreign country, but no good Korean team will let a ProLeague player prioritize this tournament over even a single ProLeague match.

It's losing practice time in exchange for a neat experience. Aka not worth it.

i still feel like ranting on the 100'000 $ winner takes it all prize pool. don't you agree its not smart? i mean, there are soo many good players that did everything to go there, with a shrinking market of starcraft. so, why not share at least a little bit of the pool. inb4: taeja wants to go beyond a 10k :D

These aren't groups. This is a double elim bracket with the top 2 being seeded into the tournament. No groups at all. (IIRC)

Potential experience of a lifetime for missing a weekend of practice isn't worth it?

lol inb4 Jaedong gets in, dominates throughout the entire tournament and then loses 0-4 and is so shattered inside that he has to retire.

I'm hoping for Jaedong and a few foreigners to go through. Jaedong hasn't been at his best in 2014 though...

Implying playing with some of the best players in the world isn't great practice

Except that no one actually forfeited their spot.

Jaedong or Dear can't win the whole thing? be real of course they can. They also have decent equity in this event, more than enough to attend especially considering their teams are almost certainly taking care of them.

Jaedong or Dear's spot in the open qualifier is probably worth like $5k in equity just for example. Perhaps more.

Isn't that an odd thing to say when five IEM Katowice participants play in Proleague, with two of them (sOs and Rogue) seeing heavy rotation for a team that is semi-realistically gunning for the top spot? And herO is the best player on a bad team. All of them will miss at least one Proleague match, if not two (because of travel time/lack of time to prepare).

Or does "good Korean team" mean only teams who didn't have players qualify?
