its funny because WCG Jordan is our #1 e-sports festival , hell I even argue it was the reason why we have e-sports here in the 1st place , without it , I have no idea
But I think WCG Jordan can still happen - there just won't be any global finals follow up.

In my opinion, it's all about the business decisions... Who did WCG put in charge of this or that region's tournaments / finals, did they have any partners who weren't contributing enough, etc.
And another part of me saw this coming as early as last semester... I think there is a recession coming to eSports, at least until we can find that next big "leap" in competitive gaming.
Such a shame, I loved it at its peak, but also felt there was nothing that filled it's role as the 'Olympics of E-sports' and that is something that sucks to me.

That was hardly necessary.
As bad as WCG has been in recent years, it's still a little disgusting to see people who have no idea what they're talking about distil it to just that.
The fact you think that the creation date of an account is anything liable to judge someone is very fucking laughable. The guy could've had other accounts throughout the years and in fact been around for much longer than you think.

I concur. I was lurking here for quite a WHILE before I created my account. It's not like everyone thinks "I may be interested in esports - better create TL.net account ASAP".
It's been complete trash the last couple of years, but I still have fond memories of the 1.6 tournaments and thats how I found out about korean BW so yeah... i'm still a bit sad.

Its probably there is no wcg australia. I competed in wcg australia during its founding days back in 2001/2002.
From what I heard from the organisers then, wcg is organised in such a way that every country is independent. IE so long as a local partner decides to take on WCG and sponsor their flights/accomodation to the finals, WCG take them in.
So its most likely a case of australian esports dead so no one held a wcg australia. Used to be so grand too. We had wcg qualifiers for every state, then a national finals from state winners. ahhh the good ol days.

Oh. Well. Bugger Australia then. Crap country for jerks.

It's something like that aye. I made really vague inquiries as to what obtaining the Ireland WCG license would entail, iirc it's several thousand dollars which is quite hefty for the smaller regions, especially given the flight costs after that
I didn't watch it much but i have a great respect for this tournament. Whenever i wanted to watch eSport of a game i didn't know much about, i would be watching the WCG finals. I did it for Street Fighter, W3, BW, Ut, ... Sad to see it goes even if i wasn't a huge follower.
This is so sad I was lucky enough to participate in the 2004 grand finals in San Francisco. It was my first real experience meeting all of my international IRC friends in person. We laughed, we drank, we cried. I still keep in touch with some of them to this day. That's what WCG was all about, it was something different and something special..

Hey I watched your video. I really respect people who contribute to the scene! Thank you! You were really wrong though in your statement about the root of American competition in WCG. PC FPS's started consistent e-sports communities in this country and on this continent. CS, Quake, UT , AVP2.... Even network linking two PC's together to play a Deathmatch of Doom . Oh ya, and don't forget about that brood war thing
