Wonder if the rights given to interational partners could be extended so that one of those partners revives the global WCG brand? We'll have to see if any of the partners would ven care to use the brand anymore though...

The only thing that saddens me is, that Moon didn't win WCG and never will .
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

On a serious note, I was never interested in that tournament for any game. There were always better alternatives.

Regardless of what you think as a fan, winning the WCG was the most important thing for most teams/players back in the day.

Also, regardless of all the shit talking anti-fans are doing, WCG still provided good games considering what they had to work with. Their video quality wasn't as good, and their player pool wasn't as good, but they still had amazing tournaments.
People just didn't want to give WCG a chance.

This is just sad . This tournament, or rather this documentary about WCG was my first contact with SC, Esports and Progaming in general and the only reason I am playing and watching sc today.

Ermmm...I do remember those epic WCG in China, with Grubby winning WC3 twice, with Flash playing Jaedong in Broodwar, when ppl far away from BW such as V1lat (famous CIS dota and dota2 caster) set and waited for those games with such big hype! I do remember Na'Vi vs mTw finals playing CS 1.6

It was a great time, and I got a lot to remember...

Thats coz u were late to the esports scene. WCG was the dominant tournament for many years during the birth of esports. Basically games only gain legitimacy if WCG has it during esports founding stage. Every progamer then hoped to be able to qualify to wcg finals. It used to mean a lot to say that you qualified for wcg. It was the olympics of esports.

As time passes, every developer started developing their own tournaments or get sponsors for exclusive tourneys for their games only. Thus wcg started to fade away in importance. Still it remains the most stable and trustworthy tournament organisers ever in the esports. Commercially however it simply cant compete with exclusive tourneys,

A single peak that he could never climb on - WCG, although he was one of the most titled proplayers.

Give respect for the tournament people plz , this was back 6-7 year ago the best tournament for Broodwar and I'm feeling that just sad to see what some kids from sc2 say about it here, WCG who ??

the world not started with you, and WCG one of the main reason YOU got many amazing sc1 pro gamer who play sc2 right now, that was a goal for many sc1 pro gamer to play in the wcg and keep playing.

RIP WCG

It's glory days have been over for quite some time, so I actually expected it to end this year or next year. I don't know how popular it was for the video games other than Starcraft, though. Maybe those were in better condition?

Edit:
Oh I did pay some attention to Warcraft III, and I must also agree with above posters. Poor Moon. I've always been a fan of him, in every game.

I won't miss the 240p streams, but I will miss Jaedong stomping foreigners. I remember him saying it was like playing against the computer.

WCG? Oh, you mean that tournament where CombatEx took a game off Parting?

Yep, and the same tournament that awarded more prize money to Adelscott than he could get in his entire SC2 carreer (by reaching the finals that he lost vs PartinG).

WCG was pretty significant on WC3, although they always were criticized for their weird setup, aka best of 1 until semi-finale I believe. It often made for pretty anticlimactic and unsatisfying results, what with the surprises bound with the bo1 format.

Nonetheless, it was the one international tournament that stuck up with WC3 all the way through to the end, and that means something to me, so I'll remember WCG in a positive light overall.

Hopefully someone takes the brand and turns it into something special.

National partners retain the right to use wcg. Its just the WCG world finals that is being stopped. However, we can infer that the world finals is being stopped coz less and less national partners can survive on wcg. Strong local partners like maybe korea, china will probably still hold national wcg finals.
