Regardless of what you think as a fan, winning the WCG was the most important thing for most teams/players back in the day. Also, regardless of all the shit talking anti-fans are doing, WCG still provided good games considering what they had to work with. Their video quality wasn't as good, and their player pool wasn't as good, but they still had amazing tournaments. People just didn't want to give WCG a chance.

Thats coz u were late to the esports scene. WCG was the dominant tournament for many years during the birth of esports. Basically games only gain legitimacy if WCG has it during esports founding stage. Every progamer then hoped to be able to qualify to wcg finals. It used to mean a lot to say that you qualified for wcg. It was the olympics of esports. As time passes, every developer started developing their own tournaments or get sponsors for exclusive tourneys for their games only. Thus wcg started to fade away in importance. Still it remains the most stable and trustworthy tournament organisers ever in the esports. Commercially however it simply cant compete with exclusive tourneys,

![]() It's glory days have been over for quite some time, so I actually expected it to end this year or next year. I don't know how popular it was for the video games other than Starcraft, though. Maybe those were in better condition? Edit: Oh I did pay some attention to Warcraft III, and I must also agree with above posters. Poor Moon. I've always been a fan of him, in every game.

Nonetheless, it was the one international tournament that stuck up with WC3 all the way through to the end, and that means something to me, so I'll remember WCG in a positive light overall. Hopefully someone takes the brand and turns it into something special.

It often made for pretty anticlimactic and unsatisfying results, what with the surprises bound with the bo1 format. Hopefully someone takes the brand and turns it into something special. National partners retain the right to use wcg. Its just the WCG world finals that is being stopped. However, we can infer that the world finals is being stopped coz less and less national partners can survive on wcg. Strong local partners like maybe korea, china will probably still hold national wcg finals.
