In bw it was motivation for many foreigners try to meet, beat Korean pros or even bonjwas Jaedong, Flash, Stork and so on.
"To all eSports fans, I want to be remembered as a progamer who can make something out of nothing, and someone who always does his best. I think that is the right way of living, and I'm always doing my best to follow that." - Jaedong

Nobody cares about WCG anymore. It was a shitty tournament.

As many pointed out before, sad news but it's for the better. I will definately miss staying up all night for grand finals and listening to Beyond the Game!
Please be patient.

For me WCG was WC3 all the way. As Warcraft scene had major lan tournaments as ESWC (summer) , WCG (end of year) and some other tournaments too + WC3L (plus weekly weekend cups). This was 2004-2006(7) and it was golden time of WC3 TFT.

Every major title had prestige and WC3L was all that you need weekly. Shamely global crisis and wage war made wc3 sustainable (+ new games).

For that I remember WCG very warm heart.

Was really heartbreaking to see it fall apart year after year since the days of glory. They shoudl've just appointd a new CEO that would've turn things around. But I guess Brad Lee is too proud to give his baby to anyone else. That's pretty sad.

We all know that I have been around the longest and have seen the most of anyone.

That being said, it is sad to see any tournament that has been running as long as WCG throw in the towel.

Thanks for everything and good luck in the future!

I'll always remember the good days with BW and occasionally WC3. I'll forget the latter years.

eSports is rapidly declining into a MOBAfest. I'm surprised WCG was wriggling and staying alive for so long; shit's been pretty much dead since 2009.

Will miss WCG, but hard to keep up and be the best against stuff that is supported by the developer. And in the end WCG with that name should only be the best or nothing.

WCG 2003 was my first contact with esports, sad to see it go but I guess it has had its time.

At first I thought it says WCS. Didn't know if I'm supposed to be happy or sad when I realized it said WCG.

WCG had one hell of a run. I really liked the tournament back for WC3. Still all good things must come to an end, ggs!

WCG was a thing when there were no other big international tournaments. It was the only occasion for foreigners to go up against Koreans in BW, and someone taking a game off a Korean was an event of great magnitude. However, even back then, WCG's organization and tournament structure was horrible, the maps were ancient, Canada got fewer spots than Kazakhstan and stuff. They also completely sold out to sponsors and put shitty cellphone games in the lineup next to legitimate eSports games like CS, BW and WC3. WCG tried to be the official world championship, but I never saw it as such due to these reasons, and I'm not sad that it's gone.

It is sad to see it go. However, not too surprising. I remember the last WCG, which had bad production and it also coincided with IEM and DH Winter. It clearly didn´t live up to it´s former glory days anymore.

DJWheat said on Lo3 years ago, when there was the whole 'wcg mobile games only' thing, that most of the real eSports people in the WCG organisation had seen the writing on the wall and already jumped ship. I'm sad to see an old staple go but I'm mostly surprised it didn't happen a year or two ago.
