WCG is gone ? well e-sports in my country is dead then

its funny because WCG Jordan is our #1 e-sports festival , hell I even argue it was the reason why we have e-sports here in the 1st place , without it , I have no idea

That was hardly necessary.

Goodbye WCG, I wanted to see you overhaul everything and become a world class event once again, but alas, it is time we part ways.

I think he was just trying to illustrate that stuff did happen before SC2 came out, even if the poster did it in a kind of condescending way.

As a very passionate fan of both Unreal Tournament and Brood War, WCG used to be the shit yo.

I don't take kindly to people who just discovered competitive gaming in the last year or so taking shots at something they were never around to experience and can't even begin to understand.

LOL. Get over yourself, yo. No one gives a fuck what you take kindly to.

Without WCG, eSports wouldn't be what it is today. People need to at least acknowledge that and stop acting like it was some shitty tournament that no one cared about.

I doubt it'll be gone for long.
Eventually someone will buy the brand and hopefully rebuild it from scratch.

WCG just didn't keep up with marketing and broadcast production quality. If a company, that knows how to run tournaments and broadcast them, picks up the name, I'm sure we could see a successful comeback.
MLG, go for it!

As my primary interests in WCG were BW and WC3, I've almost forgotten its existence in the last few years. Sad to see it evaporate into thin air while only very few remember the good days.

Mind you that WCG is a bigger tournament prize money wise last year with 52.5K $ for grand finals SC2 alone.

I still remember the days where i went to the WCG 2005 national final in Starcraft Broodwar to compete with all my friends there. Even though i didnt win it (iX.pRoDuZ00r won, with ToT)Brain( and TiQ.gGooN 2/3 and finally me after them) up until today it was the best memory i ever had of esports in any kind. There is still this huge wcg2005 poster (wich we.. borrowed from them) hanging in one of my rooms because i am still so glad i took part of it.
Its a shame that it went down so far the last years, but we should remember wcg for what it was in its prime.

The golden days of WCG was back in the early to mid 2000's when they had Counter-Strike 1.6 and Starcraft Brood Wars.

WCG really lost it's prestiege and most of the people in the organization who had past experience in other games than mobiles had left a long time ago anyway, not that surpising to be perfectly honest. Strange they did not cancel the event sooner.

This is a shocking news to you, we know, the entire staff of the WCG was surprised.

The fuck?

WCG has been a joke for numerous years now...

It used to be so good way back when, but lately... ugh... Good decision not to piss on its legacy anymore.

its really nice decision ... it was a joke tournament with handy games ... thank god its gone ... it destroyed the epicness wcg was in the past

They were badass at the time. Their model is out of date now, it was the old esport when top tier teams/players would only meet each other on lan once in a blue moon.

I know WCG has really fallen off over the last years of its running. But it is still sad to see it officially come to an end. I always enjoyed watching WC3 at WCG and the starcraft tournaments even if they didn't have all of the top players they still had a good representation of players from around the world.

I wish they found a way to remodel, everybody knows how hard it is to promote esports in areas where it's not already saturated with private capital, WCG meant alot for the Chinese and I'm sure it meant alot for many other countries too. RIP

As someone who competed in many of the earlier events, the USA WCG was always badly run. I'll likely never forget 2001 where the admin paused the third game between Whear and my younger brother that was currently five minutes in. He had made a mistake in that round was to be best of 1 and gave Whear the win since he had won the first game of the series.

Or how in WCG 2005 they used a Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War patch that was over a month old and only existed for less than a week. (The game was quickly patched again as several unintended changes accidentally made it through that they reverted). I ended up playing only mirror matches with the two OP races I barely had touched since mine was no longer tournament viable with how broken the game was. The strategy still netted me 2nd place but I was so frustrated to lose a month of practice and think I could have possibly won the USA finals if they had not have used a bugged/broken patch. (Note: Dawn of War had 9 different races in total).

The USA part of WCG has always been so horrendous... but it was the only consistent option in existence for RTS gamers. Such a squandered waste of potential and never something that could have raised e-sports to the next level even if it hadn't continued to become more of a joke year after year. I am sad to see it go as I do also have many found memories of it as well and I quite enjoyed the competition when I was younger. But I am not surprised and think this is long overdue with many more professional organizations having come about.

On a side note: I suppose this means there won't be a 3rd season of WCG Ultimate Gamer. I know I'm likely the minority in this sentiment and the show wasn't about serious competition but I still found it oddly entertaining.
The melody of logic always plays the notes of truth.

WCG was terrible the last few years, but it is truly a symbol of global esports and it's sad to see it disappear.

I think this song fits rather nicely. It is about time.

WCG HQ Staff said some of the information is wrong.
