Actually it was one of the few places which organized many of great games competitions. Kinda e-sports championship.

WCG was good back when there was no competition. I do think they will be remembered as part of esports history though.

Oracle comes in, Scvs go down, never a miscommunication.

Will always remember WCG as the most anticipated event for a non-korean bw fan.

I can play that game too.

And yet I've been following Brood War (and competitive FPS) for much longer. Which was the point actually.

Did you ever consider that SomethingWitty may have been following them aswell and was using his comment to show their perceived irrelevance of WCG?

If you've been around back then, you know why WCG deserves a little more respect than that. That's all I'm saying.

Also judging by the fact that he gives attention to CombatEX, I'd say he's not that old in the scene.

While WCG did produce some epic games, the quality of tournament organisation was very sketchy, with many shady incidents taking place.

That's one sad information. Hopefully someone will restructure WCG and fast to make it work this year. I would hate to see WCG have a break for even one year.

Well if you want to use that logic, I've been following Brood War for much longer. I'm really confused on why you infer so much about someone from their join date.

As someone who works.... worked for WCG at every grand final i woke up to this news from an email at 1:55am in the morning...i would love to respond to this in more detail, but i have to go to work.. and as silly as it sounds im shocked.. even if the event itself felt like it was going downhill.

Rest In Peace. And really, show some respect, this Tournament was very very important for the development of certain Games and Esports like it is today.

I doubt people new to the scene know who CombatEX is to be honest.

Such a shame, even if it wasn't the highest level it certainly was a festivity for competitive video gamers around the world

No one likes an elitist. Comparing dick sizes has no place on TL. Well unless I guess you're actually commparing dick sizes.

On the topic of WCG, I find it interesting that they're allowing people to use the brand...

Kinda sad. Was a really strong brand between 2004 and 2009 I think.

Wow looks like you guys know nothing about WCG history. It's been part of esports for many years. For instance, the wc3 tournament has always been one of the most prestigious tourney out there w/o a doubt.
It's a sad news for the esport community.
I guess Esport as we know it is changing and we may see other interest develop around it with new organizers and so on and so forth.

i never thought WCG was on a professional level. the ladder leagues they use to host for broodwar were glitchy and unorganized. ive always enjoyed the national finals but i feel like it had alot more potential that was never reached.

WCG, died because there are plenty more sc2 tournaments, back in those days, when there was BW, they were the best! Maybe they could go back to bw scene :D
