IEM is really good at taking that approach, one which supports all tiers of progamers. From the player that is a favorite to make it far and grab some cash to the new player that needs an opportunity to shine. With that in mind I can look past this one event. Even though it would seem be better to spread the money we have to look at what else is to gain here. Maybe spectators from other games will tune in to SC2 this time and fall in love. My only problem with that is that I think collusion is going to be expected here and I don't blame anyone for doing that. It's hard to balance. Whether we get games that end early or games that drag on forever, I have no preference. Play to win. I do think in general somewhat longer games can capture some of the magic better for new viewers. So even with collusion I'm hoping those near the end will at least see it as a showmatch. I'm thinking that could be worth it in the long run. Let's go for it.

She does make a point , but my guts tell me if her husband had a chance of winning her opinion would've been different.

Personally I am against a winner takes all $100k, that's really disrespectful to the players who might end up with nothing after a lot of hard work, imagine the runner up's feelings... This will be more about who will be the lucky on form player that day rather than be about skill. How is it disrespectful? Players know what's at stake if they lose. They can throw their hat in for a chance to win 100 grand, or make the decision to sit this one out, it's up to them. What would be disrespectful is suddenly saying on the day of the tournament that it's winner take all, but that's absolutely not the case here. Again, this is one tournament. It's obviously not a format that can become the norm or else the scene overall will die out, but it's ok to have something like this every now and then, imo.

They'd get the same result in terms of player motivation, importance of the final, and whine from the community if the prize pool was 70/20/10. And in regards to sustaining the scene, 20/10k is still a significant amount, and 70k for the winner is still enormous. But hey, it's ESL, at least nowadays at least one person is getting their prize money.

Non-Koreans already whining because they know that don't have a chance at winning the whole thing. It's not even a joke. ~_~
