I really wonder how many more viewers they'll get from this stunt. I get that you want this to be a SHOW, but there's much more to that than this winner takes all format. There's also good production, good lighting, good sound, good casters, good B-rolls segments etc. If you want to compete with LoL and Dota2, those are the things you need to be upgrading first, not this. Just my opinion.

sc2 has plenty of good production, good lighting, good sound, good casters, good B-rolls segments etc., easily on par or better than other esports

Wow I got a direct reply from opterown!

That's not really my point though (maybe I'm just not clear). I'm saying that you'll get more viewers from increased production value than from this pricing model. I didn't watch Blizzcon for the high price, but I watched it because it was a top notch production with amazing storylines, for example.

Consider yourself lucky then, the same production crew will be doing this.

The only issue is they are running 4 tournaments at the same time, I guess ESL hired big time.

I think BabyKnight's reaction to this has been hilarious.

I like the idea.

There plenty of tournies that are 'fair' for the players. This one will be the most fun for the viewers.

Great! Even with all frustration for runner-up and 3rth place, its very good, fun to watch and very unfamilar!

And $100k winner takes all isn't an amazing storyline?

Polt will swoop in and win the $100k. Super tournament was the warm-up.

This is insane but its' already working, just look at the amount of attention garnered already. Personally I am against a winner takes all $100k, that's really disrespectful to the players who might end up with nothing after a lot of hard work, imagine the runner up's feelings...

This will be more about who will be the lucky on form player that day rather than be about skill.

Has there been any negative reactions from Koreans about this? All the tweets I've seen thus far from them have been praising it and excited to play in it. Then again they're the ones far most likely to win :p
i was driving down the road this november eve and spotted a hitchhiker walking down the street. i pulled over and saw that it was only a tree. i uprooted it and put it in my trunk. do trees like marshmallow peeps? cause that's all i have and will have.

What? This is ridiculous and I don't like it at all. That is the worst decision ever for players. This is only good decision from marketing point of view. I completely agree with BabyKnight - no respect for the players.
There are no boundaries, that's the final conclusion.

This is exciting and really "something special".
That foreigners only bitch about it makes me kinda sad,i mean this would be the sort of "chance" it is worth preparing for.
As i said earlier, the only "bad" part about it is the possibility of splitting the money beforehand

That's like having tens of people work for you for free, giving each a lottery ticket and making sure only one wins. BabyKnight's "disrespectful" sums it up nicely.

OK im digging my own grave...

All the negative tweets about IEM WC are coming from players that aren't even going to be playing there (well maybe some of those will play when IEM releases more info about the number of invited and people who pass online qualifiers - im betting some TL guys even if Nazgul is not overall positive about the tournament format ).

It's hard to be negative about a $100k announcement but this is just bad.

If you like flat prize distributions, you should send your best players to events that have them.

To clarify, I meant: "you should have sent your best players to events that have them."

You mean the tournaments where travel funds were included in the public prizemoney numbers?

Yeah I sent about 10 players there just in the last year.

We would not have e-sports if winner would always take it all. I sure as hell hope that players will chop I down to reasonable sizes.

Hmm, I actually like it. It is a nice touch for a grand final and players qualifying are bound to have had good results and prizemoney in the events leading up to this.

What I dislike in a system is for example that with WCS last year, the season finals. Here, everyone who qualified for the season finals already got a lot of money and points, only to get more money and points in the season finals.
I'd rather have the events leading up to it be more important and the final event be a special one.

In an ideal world there would be a serious amount of cash for nrs 2-8 as well, but they have to be selective with their prize money and 100k first prize really sounds nice and gives a nice touch to the tournament for me.
