Fuck Yellow for making subbing so difficult at times. Thank the producers for doing the work of subtitling a lot of wtf he's saying.
that's hilarious. is his pronunciation usually terrible?
Yeah. He talks like someone who can't talk as fast as he thinks and he already talks fast with creative pronunciations. It's like he has too much uncontrollable power in his tongue that he can't stop from shooting off into random directions like Gohan from DBZ. It used to be much worse when he was a progamer and couldn't be bothered to finish saying words before moving onto the next one.
omfg i love yellow even more now!! im exactly like this....the brain just moves way too fast for the tounge and mouth

Thanks Clefairy for the great sub work as usual. Must be hellish for you and the producers to try to figure out what he's saying. At first I thought his accent was due to him having a short tongue which made it difficult to pronounce certain words, but now that you mentioned it, it could be a case of brain spinning faster than what his mouth could rattle off.
I must say his appeal and popularity is definitely on the up among non-gamers who coo over his quick thinking, affable personality, 'cute' accent and childlike mannerism. He also seems to be very popular among the contestants from both seasons. When not travelling to Jeju with Kim Poong, he's busy responding to Doohee who had been 'taunting' him with '2' and 'kong' related pics. I remember how the Season 2 contestants had described him as someone who is very hard to dislike even when he is very direct at times in saying truths that hurt (as in S2Ep4).
I know you don't know me, but you don't know how much I need you in my life.
The Genius is easily is easily the most entertaining show I am watching currently and would like to thank you / your team for sharing this with the English speaking community!
Just finished episode 4. Thought it was a little light and dull at first, but by the end there were some very interesting dynamics to think about. And I definitely got chills when Jinho's play during the deathmatch was revealed!
I was all ready to come in here with only one thing to say: what a blowout of a main match! Is there no alliance that can challenge Jinho's!
But then came the bit with Eunkyul, which I did not see coming.
I don't know why people are so upset one way or the other over his decision and his fate. If I were in the show myself, on that winning team, I'd probably play like Yellow did, because I would want to be seen as "honorable". But I don't think you can begrudge the people who betrayed Eunkyul in the deathmatch.
1) he was a player with the will and the ability to "make plays" - as evidenced by this episode's main match, and the rigged Jaekyung death match - whereas Jiwon just seems a little hapless, and easy to coerce (though I actually think he, along with Junghyung, is more of a Sunggyu character - smart player who bluffs his way into later rounds under the cover of a bumbling personality) 2) he has many garnets
And most importantly!
3) You should never trust a player who has betrayed his teammates based on a personal, ambitious decision - because they are very likely to turn around and do the same thing against you when the wind shifts. This is diplomacy 101.
(This is why Sangmin failed so miserably as a spy/betrayer in this episode - he is too ambitious and clever for his own good, both teams suspected him right away. He is lucky that he has so much charisma and wit - Jinho's team only agreed to spare him from the deathmatch because he convinced them that he helped them win with his eyeball signal....that "help" was unnecessary to the win, Yooyoung didn't even realize what he was doing! Jinho's team should have realized that Sangmin only did it to win favor from them.)
The only question in dealing with ambitious betrayers that have helped you is considering when you think they can/will betray you in turn. Doohee and Yooyoung simply chose to eliminate him at the earliest possible moment - not a bad choice when it seems easier to win immunity this season.
Regarding this last point, the betrayal of Dohee in episode 3 is a different matter - Dohee betrayed his team not due to selfish reasons, but because he needed to redeem himself after betraying Jinho, Sangmin, and Hongchul in the king election that opened the game. (Or at least he can pretend that this was the reason) This is why Jinho's team can continue to trust Dohee safely (well, as safely as you can trust anyone in this game).
Finally, regarding Eunkyul's decisions, I think he simply misunderstood the nature of the game. He thought he had to make a play, but to win, you must survive and to survive, you have to make as few and as weak enemies as possible (winning games helps, certainly, but it is just about impossible to win every single main match in a row. At some point, you WILL be vulnerable to the deathmatch, and the best way to win the deathmatch is to not be chosen for it at all.) He simply played too ambitiously, and was unceremoniously shot down for it.
To the people that want more individual genius and less diplomacy/betrayal, you'll get what you want in the later episodes. Let me enjoy the social mindgames while they last, I personally found the last few episodes of season 1 the least compelling in terms of gameplay.
And about the currently-set alliances, the changing nature of the main match games and the relentless pace of -1 contestant per episode will definitely shake things up. You can see this already in the preview of episode 5...
Hmmmmm, I don't like where the show is going starting from ep5. Eunkyul is one smart dude. He already predicted that tv personalities would very quickly become a problem. Pretty much Every1 who is a tv personality, hongchul, jiwon, yooyoung, announcer/senator band together and target every1 else that's remaining(mostly Yellow). Doohee and boxer still trying to survive by banding together wih the tv group when in reality they need to take them out. Doohee gets isolated ep 6 too, boxer betrays them in ep 5 and they try to take him out. Yellow is a target in ep5, and still a target in ep6 spoilers. Yooyoung absolutely wrecks yellow this week. Boxers a weak target so he got sent to deathmatch this week vs lawyer where he like easily wrecked the lawyer. I mean come on, he's a progamer. Obv he and yellow are going to wreck face in any 1v1 game vs any1 on the show. Too bad boxer is not as strong in the social aspect of the game. Anyways, I still have a gripe that my 2 fav players yellow and boxer are being targetted by the majority/tv personalities. Also, I hate team deathmatches.

Season 1 was the same. Thats wat makes Yellows victory so amazing. It was definitely out of the PD plans. Yellow was supposed to be out at episode 5/6.
But it would have been more interesting if YellOw's strategy won instead of the strength in numbers strategy. I hope Hongchul goes next time. He makes the show less interesting because he's one of the main reasons everyone is just brute forcing the games without thinking. Right now, YellOw is the only one that bothers to think and that needs to change to make it more fun. Also, Sangmin would have won without that huge group because his bill was super overpowered and all he needed was Doohee. He didn't need to give Yooyoung the immunity.
It also looks like YellOw got the token of immortality.
The password is 6 digits and the hint was "X II V X" so it's probably 102510. You can see "25" over YellOw's shoulder and he presses 1 after it.

Close. Someone on the Korean forums figured it out.
You are right with the numbers, except it needs to be added with another hint. If the hint given in 5th episode is 'x2', then it all makes sense.
There's a picture of Einstein and chalkboard in the room, with a long binary number. If you change this, you get 205020. This goes along with the hint from the 4th and 5th episode.
The another interesting part from the trailer is, everyone knows where the safe is hidden now (in the trailer for the 6th round, Duhee was searching for something that he misplaced (or lost, whatever it is). In this part, you can see Jiwon in the same room as Duhee (the garage). The safe is exposed in that scene)
