Revealing replays to the public only enhances the competition and make everything better all-around within the competitive spirit that drives e-sport. I'm in full support of it!

In my opinion it's better that way.

Yeah, hopefully people start changing their play more often if it's figured out sooner. It may make for less polished builds as they'll have to keep changing them, but I think I like that idea more than watching robots play builds.

Imagine you are <insert-your-SC2-hero>, how would you feel when that build you've spend days/weeks perfecting was mercilessly dissected with the click of a button?

This could also potentially affect the quality of all WCS matches in the future. If this is only limited to WCS then we might start to see pros hiding their builds from WCS game all together and play purely in a reactional based game. For 'most' pros, it's the regular leagues that pays your wage, not your placement in WCS.

if you show a build in a televised match, it can already be "mecilessly dissected with the click of a button." this just makes it easier. the real benefit is to people who aren't in team houses, ie. almost everyone who plays the game.

Yes this is great news for all the fans out there, but bad news for the pros. It would be interesting to see what the pros really have to say about this.

edit: It seems that the Chinese fans too are having mixed feeling about the mass release of replays.

That's exactly right.

With more access to replays more players can study and get better, which causes the over skill level to go up, which makes what the people at the top are doing much more impressive.

Increasing the skill level makes a SC2 match more of a show.

This really should allow foreigners to gain access to the best Starcraft minds and coaching. We should see a lift in skill level if western players aren't lazy. Also allows for a shit load of preparation in matches. If the west can catch Korea in skill I feel the game will gain a lot of popularity. #saveSC2

Any top Korean pros shouldn't be happy about this, this move is like stripping yourself down to beg fans to come back, another terrible move by Blizzard.

I think how good or bad this ultimately is depends largely on how often Blizzard releases the replays. If they release them too often, then it can harm pros if they have other tournaments coming up (depending on how quick a build is dissected and the information is spread). If they release them too late, then they are largely irrelevant. Logically speaking, they may only release replays once a season is over?

Wow, this is really great having all the replays. And even in a such super organized way with that zip file. I like it very much.

The bane of replays is the game revolutionizes much quicker. In other words, players catch up quicker. BW was much better without them. Sorry, but it's true. People could still study the VODs and what have you but there were a number of things we could keep hush, hush and the creativity of the players shined through. If you want to slow things down and give the great players the spotlight longer you would second guess the whole replay resolve.

Its just like swapping practice recordings in american football. The information is out there, doing it this way it just a cleaner way of getting it.

which is against the rules in the NFL and sparked a monster investigation into the New England Patriots

which then later resulted in the largest fine in league history against a coach and the loss of a 1st round draft pick.

these NFL football analogies are good for a friday afternoon laugh though.
thanks for that.

that was practice. the NFL itself records every game from the All-22 angles and makes all of those tapes available to every team. they have done this for decades. starting two years ago, that film was made available to fans as well (if you pay for it). I can look at any play from any game played last year from either broadcast angles or coaches angles. if you run it in a game, it is available for literally every one to look at to prepare for you and to get better. this is a great thing for pros, not a bad thing.

the spygate scandal was actually for video taping a defensive coordinators hand signals during the first half of a game from the sideline then analyzing them at halftime. And yeah game film has been made available to coaches for a long time now

We're considering releasing replays shortly after each match is played, but we're still discussing this both internally and with the players this would impact. In the meantime, you should keep an eye on the portal for the latest information.

Complaining about the replay release is sheer elitism. People want e-sports to be taken seriously like other sports? In any other sport, on game day you are open to the highest level of scrutiny and analysis

Someone can watch Flash replays until they're blue in the face, but they won't ever be a threat to him unless they can attain his APM, game sense, decision making, timing, it goes on and on. It might make the viewer 10 or 20% better in the long run though. That is a good thing.

This. I don't see why people are complaining so much about it. Builds are meant to be stolen, dissected and broken down. That way we can see the people who are truly creative, and innovative shine through.

Early rounds of WCS are online in Europe/AM.
Currently any EU/AM player has the replays of their opponent.

People in teams have a distinct advantage over those not, because they can share replays, and the probably will be able to talk to other teams as well.

The main impact is on the Korea scene where replays would not really be available due to the fact it's all offline. But then in Korea there is a lot of ladder and cross team practice.

Basically all these builds or replays are out there already being analysed and used, but currently it's only by some players, rather than all. This just evens up the playing field for those not on a large team/with lots of contacts.
HOLY CHECK!

Way i see it. Vods are already available soon after games and since so much information is displayed in them through production tabs and the like, the argument that replays will cause builds to be figured out faster is mindless babble from retarded sheep

Good move.

It's not really bad news for the pros, it will make them work harder and potentially not be so relaxed about their play styles (certain terrans ALWAYS going for 4M, certain protoss ALWAYS going for 3 base deathballs etc)
It will improve the meta game evolution and ultimately provide better games.

This is pretty damn cool actually. Really good to see Blizzard more willing to work with third parties

+1

Now, does this take away MLG's reason to refuse to release replays because they contain "information that allows you to DDOS players"? Because honestly, I thought that was bullshit from day 1. This means Blizzard either fixed that, or nobody gives enough of a shit because they got the replays from OSL and GSL! I don't think they were ever required to forcefully send replays to Blizzard so Blizzard could eventually backstab them by releasing their precious replays to the world. I'm pretty sure KeSpa and eSF are cool with this.
