unless they release a plugin api or something, i' against third party mods, because they are easily abusable and can give you an unfair advantage.
all players should have the same, unmodified game, and also modifyng mpq game files is against blizzard tos

But the unmodified is incredible biased vs colorblind people like myself, and sometimes iit even look ugly. Zerg espcially look disgusting with the red colour.

Took them long enough, red/green kind of solved it for me back when I was playing though. I only ever had real problems with brown/green opponents on jungle tilset maps and stuff like that, couldn't see the dots on the minimap :<

Is there any way to get a kind of 'hybrid-colour' option?
What if I'm not colour blind, but I want the new-darkened minimap, building grid UI. But still have yellow or purple units?

2) They give us a 'color blind' mode rather than just giving us drop down lists to pick whatever colors we like for everything. Well, as Dustin Browder said, if this doesn't affects multiplayer experience, why they should add it? For me, it's a very weak reason to not add color selection. Really.
Okay, do you really think this stuff was incredibly prevalent or do you let your emotions rule the past? There was one thread on TL with all mods for visuals and none of those affected game play negatively/tampered competitive gameplay - purely aesthetics. Now sure, people COULD change things like cloak units borders and such but that was nothing less than "cheating", however the amount of people who went through this process were very minimal. But again, we're not saying that mpq editing should be allowed...
I'm fully on your side, but if there is a POSSIBILITY to cheat through modding cloaked models by increasing their size... Blizzard can not just allow that, especially if SC2 is used in some popular tournaments.
The only thing needed is a simple interface with color schemes or a color wheel and selections of what would go where or how "strong" it would appear. If GameHeart can do it I'm sure Blizzard wouldn't have that hard of a time... I think Blizzards are just lazy on these things and they just don't care about such small aesthetic things. But who cares? 90% of players will still hail them for this great patch, so they can continue what they want without doing usefull things like color selection.
that artwork is so funny. love it. Huh, thanks

I'm glad this option is there though it seems strange it took so long to implement. More options for this kind of thing always seems good.

I tried this out and I find it quite nice. The red hull shape for building placement preview is a bit distracting, but overall I am pleased with this option.

Are you saying they got rid of green/red mode completely or that this is a new 3rd option?
Blue and orange is not more readable for non-color blind players... And this would affect almost every pro player in only a bad way. There's a reason why most people choose green/red mode.

Well, we need blue versus red color mode

I really like it that they finally implemented this. Blizz has in general implemented a lot of stuff everybody wanted since WoL lately, smth I rly like.

I'm probably going to use this for the change in scenery, i'm not colorblind though. The standard Green/Blue/Red colors are boring. I wish they would let you choose which colors you wanted to play as, if your opponent picked the same color it uses your second choice. It's a little thing, I know, but it makes a big difference (plus I think the Brood War colors were fantastic).
Where is the option? I can't find it under Gameplay...

Not colorblind but using the colorblind mode since it's way better than default.

The patch is active now? That checkbox isn't there for me.

Their response was: "Good idea, we'll get to it when we can." HotS was announced and still no sign of it, so just gave up hope. During the HotS beta I was pretty vehement in emails and on the private forum they set up about getting this done, glad to see it finally came to fruition.
Blizzard do things like that and don't get called on it enough because it's a niche issue. I mean they removed compatibility with the game working on pre-Mac OSX 10.6 with their big WoL update, but copped little flak for that. I updated OS's just for that I can't because there's a lot of software keys and stuff that I have misplaced since moving house. My fault of course, still annoying though.
On my other point, by all means disable 3rd party mods if you must, not really my preference but it's the company's perogative. At least get your shit together in keeping the features that people liked among them.

Well, on other side, people can abuse game modding. Remember things like giant transparent silhouette instead small one for observer? So they decided to fix everything under "Resource checking alltime" option which was added with Streaming system
Im not sure what that has to do with game modding, for some months after release if you put all game settings to low except shaders which you put to ultra, you could legitimately see cloaked units without detection(still couldn't attack them but it was night and day difference seeing where they were coming from or were running to) -.- this was all on "stock" crap with no mods.
Sometimes you just gotta leave it to the community that has more time to fix things like that. Hell BW was only as good as it was because of all the 3rd party launchers and private BW servers that gave us a hell of a lot more stats then b.net ever did. Not to mention where some games get fixed through mods then through official patches. Even check out skyrim and what they've been able to do with that.

I think the general idea is that only red/green colorblind people had problems with the red/green colour scheme. Between the two options, everyone should be catered to...aside from people with total monochromatic vision. red/green is the most prevalent type of colorblindness, almost 1 in 10 people. stat, scroll downI'm not sure how other types of colorblindness will be helped but I imagine there will be very few people without a good option now. But it'd be nice if blizzard just let you set the colors you want for ally/enemy. Er...yeah, not sure what you're trying to say here...
Red/Green colour blind people were the ones having issues with Red/Green colour schemes, so this option fixes it for them.
Every other variation of colourblindness is catered to by either option except for monochromatic vision
