This is sad to me. I would love to see players striving to be the best instead of striving to make money. Life hint – if you achieve the first the later almost always follows.

This is GSL it is far more important than any foreign tournament.

Stephano clearly wants the money from IEM. He's an idiot for dropping out though, it's GSL.

Good decision. Koreans need to xpand, and stop being so isolated. Having the korean govonrment run kespa just reeks of fracism and the decisons that come out of it show exsacly that. The rest of the world dosnt need them to have a succsesfull career, and gom tv and gsl are not the hardest and best tournaments. Good Luck Frenchi!

Right, going 3-4 in a group consisting of DRG, innovation, and hack is 'failing miserably'

...be that as it may, sc2 scene wouldnt be what it is today if it wasnt for the korean government backed kespa. many people here take this for granted. the sc2 hype train was the most massive train ever built.

This is so lame. Almost every foreigner keeps doing this. Don't even accept going to the GSL in the first place if you are so worried about conflicting schedules.

aw too bad. At least Yonghwa stands an even better chance now ^^

Yeah, but he's playing at IEM too, so he's going to have one hell of a week himself.

As for Stephano, he's always been about the money, so anyone could see this coming really. The IEM player pool is much weaker than GSL's, so its likely easy money for him. IEM is also on Hots and the up and downs aren't. Nothing really shocking here.

To all you guys who are putting rain in the same category as stephano, Rain's team made him play in the MLG tourney instead of the GSL because of the conflicts that GOM/KESPA had, along with the contract that MLG and KESPA had.

SKT wanted to snub GSL, it was part of the long back n forth that they had at the beginning of sc2 transitioning.

Koreans, despite their fiegned good manners, are actually very petty and underhanded. (im from there)
If you read a lot of korean news, you'd find that the same big name companies that own your favorite starcraft teams do some pretty shady and corrupt things to keep your favorite nerds in the black.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they had purposely put (Z)Stephano and youngwha in that same f*cked up bracket on purpose to make them choose between the GSL and IEM, and to intentionally make them suffer if they chose both.

don't understand why there needs to be so much hub-bub.

Foreigners are only given spots because it helps GOM's ratings. They don't care if they're screwing over some talented Code B player..that isn't going to change. If anything changes, it'll be in the vein of making sure there's more commitment from the foreigners they give seeds to.

GSL should learn a lesson ...

About Stephano: As expected he forfeit his code a game after he "only" went 3rd place at his code s group.

dude, he only won one match against hack who's bad TvZ. Seriously he did nothing special in code S, rather pleased haters.

Well you've got to say this about Naniwa, at least he stuck around in GSL and gave it a proper go. Two round of 8 finishes in Code S make him definitely in the top few foreigners of WoL. I'm Stephano's biggest fan, and I think he probably is perhaps the best naturally talented foreigner playing now. But I'm worried that without really sticking it out in GSL to show the world he really is as good as his reputation, that all those undefeatable ZvP roach pushes back in 2012 might be forgotten about in time. Let's hope that in HotS he can dedicate some time to give us the Code S result we all want for him. I still think he's the best chance players outside Korea have of taking the GSL crown.

I think Stephano made the good decision.
He probably had all his trip to IEM already planned when Up and Down groups were released, so can't even blame him.

Too bad you're wrong though, GSL is the hardest and the best tournament around no doubt. Stephano can win all the money he wants and if that's what he's after, that's fine, but the glory of being the best is reserved for the likes of MVP, NesTea, MC, Life, and so on.
