as long as he gets the $$$ in foreign tournaments theres no point sweating on GSL where at best he will make ro16 and less than $2000 whereas in tournaments like IEM, ironsquid, dreamhack, ipl , etc. he is guaranteed at least top 8 and $5000, without much practice

simple as that

Why does everyone think Stephano will "take it to ze bank" at IEM? You guys realize he's played only about 120 HotS games, and done fairly badly at that, hasn't even made GM? Wasn't he saying that he started playing WC3 so he could win some games to get his confidence back up?

Guaranteed? He finished something like 30th at the last IPL, he barely even managed to qualify for this IEM, he was 22nd on the rankings list with no top place finishes.

As nice as it would have been to see him attempt to prove himself (for a third GSL round, since he failed the first two), it's clearly not his priority, and that's all that matters. For whatever reason (probably the belief that he'll have an easier time making money at IEM), he prefers leaving this GSL round and trying his luck solely at IEM. It's his choice.

Personally, I think it's a slap in the face to GOM, considering he was given a seed and he's just throwing it away (and it's peripherally hurting how even the groups were in size, and viewership), but it's still his decision at the end of the day. I'm not going to kidnap him and force him to play GSL (and possibly lose again, anyway). He has his reasons, even if they might be selfish.

He will have been a big disappointment from his start in GSL until now. I had such high hopes for him

Why waste time not having fun in GSL, when you could have fun at IEM and see friends? Life is too short.

not too surprise, he'd probably get stormed in U&D, so why not have a better chance making a few bucks at easier events like IEM.

Guaranteed in the context that the level of competition and skill are lower at foreign tournaments than in the GSL. Just roll with us (most responders in this thread) on this one. :D

Yeah....a lot of people have already said that he stands a better chance in IEM, so it makes sense.

i understand his reasoning for doing it... he likely wouldnt have gotten out of U&D and has a high chance of winning IEM. that being said, korean progamers who focus solely on trying to get into GSL must be super frustrated

Lucifron, Scarlett, Nerchio, ect, ect, ect, ect, ect are all Code S quality.
They are complete Korean slayers that put fear into their Korean counterparts.
If they decided to grace the Korean scene with their presence they would totally crush some Korean faces.
They have incredible micro/macro and unmatched creativity.
Koreans with their mechanical play can't handle their game sense.
The only reason GSL hasn't had a foreigner champion is because who wants to waste their time in Korea?

I hope you get the sarcasm.

But in most cases, you can't achieve the first, and also you missed the chance to get the second.

I bet this really frustrates korean gamers that are trying to make it.

Very disappointing in stephano.

Its a pathetic showing from him and all the others imo, makes forgieners look really bad.
