I mean since when has IEM been worth missing GSL for?

It's the IEM World Championship, not just one the minor events they run throughout the year. It's also the first major HotS tournament.

To all you guys who are putting rain in the same category as stephano, Rain's team made him play in the MLG tourney instead of the GSL because of the conflicts that GOM/KESPA had, along with the contract that MLG and KESPA had.

SKT wanted to snub GSL, it was part of the long back n forth that they had at the beginning of sc2 transitioning.

Koreans, despite their fiegned good manners, are actually very petty and underhanded. (im from there)
If you read a lot of korean news, you'd find that the same big name companies that own your favorite starcraft teams do some pretty shady and corrupt things to keep your favorite nerds in the black.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they had purposely put (Z)Stephano and youngwha in that same f*cked up bracket on purpose to make them choose between the GSL and IEM, and to intentionally make them suffer if they chose both.

I feel sad for Rain, people dislike him for that choice made by kespa

He has a better chance at IEM than he has of winning a GSL so this decision makes sense.

i don't think i can be a stephano fan anymore

Good decision. Koreans need to xpand, and stop being so isolated. Having the korean govonrment run kespa just reeks of fracism and the decisons that come out of it show exsacly that. The rest of the world dosnt need them to have a succsesfull career, and gom tv and gsl are not the hardest and best tournaments. Good Luck Frenchi!

Too bad you're wrong though, GSL is the hardest and the best tournament around no doubt. Stephano can win all the money he wants and if that's what he's after, that's fine, but the glory of being the best is reserved for the likes of MVP, NesTea, MC, Life, and so on.

That's super kewl and all, but Stephano doesn't give a shit about that. Besides by giving up his spot, he's now down in Code A or is he kicked out entirely?

Kinda funny how Europeans don't stick around in Korea very long. Looks like another foreigner bites the dust in the GSL Code S. I wish Stephano luck at IEM.
There's no S in KT. :P

every great player, athletes or gamers, has a great mindset that makes them champ. That is thriving for the best, playing with the best and winning the best money.

Your so-called foreigner hero doesnt have that. Hes just another kid who wins some money by playing video game.

What would be hilarious is if Yonghwa won IEM and also got out of his u/d group. That would be straight up awesome.

People are acting like he's skipping a Code S match for this. It's up and downs. There's a high chance that he'd end up in Code A anyway which is what happens now. He is still in the GSL, in Code A. Everyone calm the fuck down.

Dayum. Laying down the hard reasoning. But yeah nice call, that puts it into perspective. Good decision I 'spose

He knows that he's not going to be doing this shit when he's 30 so he is banking cash. People are raged about it because it's a sort of nod to the fact that this game has a clock on it whereas some nerds seem to think of it as a long term career option (which it isn't). This is a pretty rational move regardless of what we might wish for as viewers.

Such a shame to see players looking for easy money instead of compete in the most prestigious sc2 tournaments with the best players int he world. But i guess he just doesnt belong to them.

Should someone from EG management or coaching have contacted Mr. Chae and associates to work on this? I don't blame Stephano, but someone should ask EG some questions. SLASHER, where are you???

Are you high right now? In your mind is there some EG conspiracy masterminded by Alex Garfield and Incontrol to keep Stephano out of GSL? There is a conflict and he chose the tournament that is more appealing to him personally (and likely also to EG and their sponsors!), this isn't complicated.

This is extremely BM. No player that wants to be the best should just throw away a potential Code S spot.

I love how people are worked up over this. He made his name in the western scene. He's obviously going to participate in a massive tournament that he loves as opposed to a couple games of Up & Down matches. What the fuck do you think is more appealing? A chance at trying to get Code S and staying in Code A anyways if he fails, or going to IEM where he's almost guaranteed some good money and to have a lot more fun than he would have in the Up & Down matches?

Use your brains.

Can't believe everyone is bitching against Stephano again. He's just not the godly foreigner that will "save" the foreigner pride and such, he's just Stephano. Let him be what the F*** he want to be and stop always complaining about his decisions. That's the kind of attitude that will make him leave Sc2, or even other programmer.
