Well said. A shame people are thinking WCG is shit everywhere...not true.

that is just unfortunate those visa things are so annoying
also I wouldn't really say that this sounds like it's entirely WCGs fault, i dunno wether i would blame them for this, and say it's badly run event, it was just a lot of different things going together, german postal service has a hand in this too for example. Not saying WCG hasn't fucked up in the past, because I'm sure they have and am in no position to claim otherwise, but this isn't really their fault. Although spreading wrong information about why DaRkFoRcE will not be able to attend and, considering to charge him for what has happened is / would be a terrible mistake.

Because 1st place is $25,000. WHICH IS A LOT OF MONEY. OH and its like 4 koreans against a bunch of sucky foreigners.

You telling me that you won your spot in WCG finals in the middle of august, they only started caring about the visa beginning of november and then bitch around because you didn't manage to fetch the letter and apply for a visa in two days?

There's supposed to be pride in winning for your country. Df fighting~

That is really sad for you DarkFoRcE. I've always enjoyed watching you play

Have you actually been to a WCG tournament?
We had all sorts of problems in Canada in the past.
Sorry, but I've been following the tournament since it's inception and almost every year we hear terrible accounts. Many of which include the refs and how bad the administration is.

I honestly dont remember exactly when they sent their request for my passport + visa documents. I think it was in october actually. But maybe they waited until they got the documents from everyone until they went to the consulate (and im sure some people sent it in late).

They are way behind the times and their administration has always been abysmal. That's me being nice. Ask any player who's competed in the WCG over the years. They will tell you horrid stories.

It happens DF. Problems with getting the Visa is actually very common due to tardiness regardless of who's fault it was.

He just said the tournament is outdated. That's one of the points I mentioned when I said WCG is way behind in the times.
As for the refs and administration you have to look over the course of the tournament and more specifically how many nations have had problems with regionals, which are well documented on this website for BW.

It doesn't make much sense to quote a person who made the point to clear things up with WCG as proof that WCG is a well oiled machine...

It's a Korean corrupted organizers. CS 1.6 WCG07 MYM vs eSTRO, hi hwanni -.-

It sucks that this seems to have happened from administrative errors.
For all the anti-WCG people out there, it's worth pointing out that visa problems happen to people in all professions. This story is just particularly bad because things moved in ways that look very preventable in hindsight and then the administrative people seemed to blame DarkForce for their own mistakes.
So lesson learned for administrative people out there: stay in constant communication, ESPECIALLY if things don't go smoothly.

Samsung's always ran it and guess what? They're a Korean company with a lot of money.
If it weren't for Samsung throwing money at it. The tournament surely wouldn't be around today without another good backer. They have their own team; they can promote their own brand through the tournament. It just makes sense to them really.
It's one of the longest running tournaments for that reason.

That will keep happening regardless of the tournament as I mentioned before. Visa problems are one of the most common issues and anyone who's been to China knows how hard it can be to get a Visa there alone.
Samsung will never change it's ways unless something dramatic happens and I don't see that change happening anytime soon.
KeSPA board for the win.

Add this to one of the thousands of things wcg has done wrong in the past few years.

Back in the days of SCBW WCG was the best and most anticipated tourney for me. Only for the single reason, that we see the best foreigners playing against some of the best (not always the elite) Koreans. It was so amazing to see how very skilled European players got beaten so easily by Koreans. At least it seemed to look so easy, but as we all know BW is hard as hell to master. In SC2 the skill difference got quite small and the fact that you frequently see Kors playing against Non-Kors takes away my interest.
But the main reason why WCG is not interesting anymore is also the fact that events like MLG or DH are much better organised and planned.

Okay, nvm my post then. I was misled by your "few weeks ago". Anyways, then the mistake is that they never anticipated the problems that occured.
But it really sounds weird that they cannot apply a visa in berlin for somebody in Bavaria. I'm pretty sure that the last agency handling my visa also went through Berlin and I'm from Palatinate.

It was the best and most anticipated because it was the only real big stage for foreigners with decent prize money and we would watch to see if one of our boys could upset a Korean. That and it was one of the only places where we could gather from all over the world other than DH.

This is not true, WCG was always one of the best esport tournaments in the world, it started to get bad after the economic crisis. However 2011 was the first year it was really bad.
