apart from some obvious and unforgivable design flaws in the interface (no chat channels, no lan), the game itself was never designed to really transcend its predecessor. we are still stuck with three tiers, limited tech option, a single best standard build being repeated over and over ad nauseam basically blizzard as a whole lost their vision to actually create new stuff, something that could already be seen with the abomination that is diablo 3. there is no innovation, just the attempt to create past glory what starcraft would need is way more variety, more units, more tech options, more depth. maybe even more races or at least sub-factions with more variety they were too scared to do that because they probably thought it would be too hard to balance, when they should have let the community balance the game from the start. limiting game balance patches to once a month, done by clueless people afraid to change much lead to the (maybe) balanced but boring, repetitive and dead metagame we have today they should have included the community much more in every decision instead of sticking with some fat c&c designer with an inflated ego that wanted to see his vision of how RTS should work come true

Also last I check those who attends MLG are still majority sc2 fans, by far. Your example really only applies to IEM, which might as well say they got bought out by riot

Suggesting that SC1 had "a single best standard build being repeated over and over" is sheer ignorance. BW had a complex metagame, with multiple builds and variations of builds that were constantly being reworked, changed, and challenged. And even if you played a bad BO match up there was a possibility to micro or multitask extremely well and make a comeback. I completely agree. It's like the developers didn't want to use anything from BW or at least make everything completely different so they could never be accused of copying. It's just so stupid. I don't think anyone (or at least hardly anyone) wanted a BW clone with better graphics. I think the idea of creating a new game is great. But why on the world would you start completely from scratch and eliminate so much of what made BW great. It's either stupid or arrogant, maybe a combination of both. I keep hoping the expansions will change things, or Kespa players will figure out how to transcend the weak design, but I feel like I'm losing confidence all the time. Unless the developers have a radical change of mind or we get new ones I'm not sure that things are going to get better. Which is a shame because even with such a flawed game SC2 is still better than any other RTS games released recently.

LoL is just more lucrative for them because the elephants have arrived and will be stealing all their money. The only Sc2 players that stand a chance are the former elephants. Mastadons?

Yea, tons of people have been thinking it, it's just been kinda taboo to actually talk about it on TL until Destiny/TT1 pretty much came and blew the lid off.

I'm a former Wc3 player and me and my grandmaster mate are the only people to play SC2 until now. All our Wc3 friends did not bother buying SC2 or do not play it by any means. In my opinion it's blizzard, who makes SC2 less attractive than LoL, DotA2 and BW. We need either a total simple HotS which is fucking easy to adept, but still hard to master or we need all those things that the community wants to add to the game. Balance is excluded of course!

I'd like to have faith in your faith but from my experience Blizzard aren't interested. I can only assume that's due to not enough $$ signs. Big fundamental changes would require large capital and Blizzard as a part of Activision are now interested in the biggest bang for smallest buck. Capital amounts would be small for what Blizzard can afford but Activision or whoever is pulling the shots are skinflints. They have a game that works, hots will sell well regardless. There is seemingly little reason for more investment.

ANy avoidance of a decline would ahve required a completely new business model of Sc2 from blizzards point of view.

Viewers don't watch balance in games, they watch players play games. if a game is not exciting to watch, then it why would anyone be interested. Collosus vs collosus is boring. Z v P is boring, T v P is boring,. The whole game needs a rework to not only look interesting but play interesting to attract people.

But something just didn't feel right when Teamliquid, THE PREMIERE Starcraft website, decided to add Dota 2.
