I'm open to suggestions on how to avoid TL;DR when math involved in it isn't crude simple. Or why solid math should be involved in giving a(ny) comparative value where non previously existed (lack of updates).
You make too many assumptions and you have no idea what you're talking about, so it's worthless, sorry!
It's actually laughable that by the time this documentary comes out, competitive starcraft will have already died a death many times over.
If this had been released in October 2012, when it was promised, it would have had such a great impact. But now? Forget it. The only people who will probably watch it will be the suckers they tricked into paying their exorbitant travel costs for the past 2 years.
Then there's korea, i have no idea how long they were there but i would spend a month there if possible, following tastosis around, grabbing filler footage, interviewing them, living with them etc - truly get to know them. So korea - four weeks
Now they are returning to korea for some extra stuff i heard, i'd give that two weeks and you have plenty of time covering the event in question, filling in any gaps with tastosis and fix any lacking interviews and add some extra shots.
I guess you missed the point where this was just a ruse to fund him moving to Korea. According to his Kickstarter, which launched August 24, 2011, Alejos lived in LA, CA, USA (which he must be living in the US/UK in order to be eligible for Kickstarter funding). But according to this the question linked to in this youtube video (about 20-30 seconds into his answer), over a year later, he is living in Seoul, Korea.
"...I've known Dan for awhile, I live in Seoul, now, so I get to hang out with him all the time."
So he is childhood friends with Nick, known Dan for awhile. He was stuck stateside, so he asks his buddies to give him their blessing for a "documentary" and asks the community for funding. Plus it is a lot easier to at least create some stock footage for a random trailer if he is near those guys. After the Kickstarter date past and a product is not ready to release (Oct 2012), Alejos figures he is off the hook and proceeds with the plan (known the be living in Korea in Dec 2012, according to interview above). Given the lack of updates, this seems like the most logical explanation to me.
Be fucking grateful that people are even doing documentaries? Many smaller games never recieve one to begin with. It's like watching a spoiled child not getting a new iphone for christmas. I highly doubt this is a wierd fraud for some guy to move to korea...

It's something different when this documentary was founded by kickstarter, where people put money in to realize this whole thing.
It's not a spoiled child not getting a new iphone for christmas, it's buying an iphone an never getting it...

Did anyone tell you that you'd get updates for your money? Or a set release date? Nope you paid to support him doing this, nothing less, nothing more. And I highly doubt tastosis will afford to just never have this released given how hard it would fuck their reputation.

I don't know what the truth is with Alejos at the moment, hence the speculation. All the community has to go on is the trailer released roughly 10 months ago (about the time the entire project was slated to be finished), an interview given about 8 months ago, and a couple twitter updates stating he is filming in Korea roughly 6 months ago. For someone who has said "I wanted to be like, Alright, well, keep them interested, show them what they paid for, be as open as possible." it isn't an extraordinary request to ask for monthly updates regarding the project.
Also just noticed, but his initial response to that question, he laughs as he says "Because the starcraft community was so nice to fund this film" *chuckle*. So is he in on the joke? If he isn't going to update the community (his investors) on what is going on, it isn't surprising the community will start coming up with their own versions of what is going on.
A reason why this has gone so long overdue is probably due to the fact Alejos has no communication with the community on where this is at, thus he isn't being held accountable to keep proceeding forward.

So your theory is that the faces of Starcraft, tastosis, would support to conn the community out of 40k dollars. So what's your take on 9/11? Inside job? And the people you are accusing have been in the community for ten years while you've had a TL account for six months.
And you can live somewhere temporarily, and it wouldn't even matter if he did move to Korea, he doesn't have to be in the states to edit the film. Your theory doesn't hold a drop of water unless he completely lied about his credentials or something.

No.
You did not buy anything.
Kickstarter is not a service that allows you to pay in advance for a product. It's there to fund a project. And sometimes projects get cancelled, or sometimes people have no idea what the fuck they're doing so it ends up requiring a lot more time, effort and money to accomplish. And sometimes you get scammed.
If you pay for something on Kickstarter and EXPECT to receive the end product, you clearly do not understand how the system works.
at this point maybe it's safe to say this thing was a scam? Or some terrible terrible damage happened to the photographer Or just still taking its time to record the downfall of sc2 popularity

I doubt it was a scam. There's no evidence for that at all. Kinda drama mongering. I hope it's still a thing though.
It has been a while since there was an update and it's definitely delayed. These things take a lot of time, I'm personally pretty curious as to what happened too.
On another note, I've received news from the Star Nation documentary that was kickstarted a few months before Sons of Starcraft. + Show Spoiler +
Wednesday the Austin Film Society awarded Star Nation a $6,000 film production grant! This is great news and will help the project with much needed resources as we wrap up our story lines. The feature is by in large pulled together, I just need a few key pieces to complete the puzzle. Thank you very much Austin Film Society.
The edit of the movie is progressing very nicely. There is no gratification like working through a section of material to the point where you know it will become a moment in the film that makes a meaningful contribution. I have very high hopes for Star Nation.
I hope to have an official trailer sometime in the near future. You will know when the project is nearly done when you see it. Until then I'll be releasing some content through our youtube channels.
GLHF
At least it feels good to hear some news, it's gonna come quite late but I beleive it's finally gonna arrive one day. Let's hope that "sons of starcraft" follows the same path
