What we need, as a mapping community, is sponsorship and people who actually give a crap about community maps on a regular basis. Ironman makes a good point in that he is correct in stating that the addition of one more map team is not going to change the overall perspective of community created content for tournaments, tournament organizers, professional players, and Blizzard. If this team existed solely for the purpose of creating additional maps, I would concur with his conclusion. It is precisely this reason that Dream Forge seeks to change the game. I will not go into detail at this time as I am unprepared and it is pre-mature. Furthermore, with the introduction of the HOTS beta and the impending release of HOTS -- a natural movement by tournaments into new maps will occur due to the different natures in regards to certain units in comparison to WoL. Tournaments will once again be entering growth/evolution stages to deal with the changing landscape -- creating a prime market for map teams to produce for (it should be noted that this will likely happen once more with the release of the third game in the trilogy -- assuming Blizzard maintains its focus on changing units and unit roles from the previous game). Thank you for your concerns Ironman, they have been noted and are being addressed by many members in the community. We appreciate your support of the map team endeavor and the development of our community. As for the team and the maps produced -- if you would like to support us you can do so by playing our maps and providing feedback, encouraging your friends to try them out, and to try and abuse them as much as you can so we can improve upon them and future maps. Or just comment on how pretty they look. If you are interested in getting involved, either PM us or feel free to register with our forums to stay in close contact with us. We may provide future methods of supporting us, but at this time we are unprepared to say what those may entail. Thank you for all the positive responses so far -- we cannot wait to update you with more of our work and improve the community as a whole.

I think there is some catch-22 situation when it comes to new maps. Mappers and some spectators want to see new/different maps, while tournaments and players would be afraid of being thrown in an unfamiliar map. So map makers have to tread a fine line.

@Ironman. I'm now playing all of my custom/practice games on non-ladder maps. I think just getting more people to play on melee maps in general will go a long way, because then when MLG (who am I kidding, they're so conservative with their pool) or whoever brings up the potential of new maps, more of their fan base will have experience the glory that is new maps. I also think that having a working map pool that is a collection of the best 8 maps that the community can put forward, perhaps favoring maps from the most recent 8 months or something of that ilk would go a long way to have a direction to point people/tournament organizers in when they're looking for new maps.
