A foreign fan finding his way to the GSL at the MokDong GOMTV studio and publicly proposing became a hot discussed topic.
On September 4th, 2012, before the 2012 GSL Season 4 Code S Ro32 Group B winners match took place, a foreign fan wearing a GSL t-shirt came up to the front of the crowd and stood in the middle of the stage. Supposed an Israeli, this man called up his girlfriend who came with him to the studio and had her come up to the front of the studio along with him, got down on one knee, and proposed to her.
The fan stated that he wanted to "publicly propose to my girlfriend at the GSL studio, where we always enjoyed watching many GSL games together." The girlfriend accepted the proposal and everyone in the studio became emotional. This was a momentous occasion for the GSL as it proved the fact that the GSL was becoming internationally acclaimed since a foreign fan took the time to come all the way to the studio just to propose to his girlfriend.
You never think you'll use the icon and then one day you wake up and people are getting married and stuff I wonder how many times I can fit and into this sentence and get away with it.

Usually when people propose they already know their partner will say yes, because they talked about it a lot, but want to find the right special moment for it
I'd say thats unfair to the women. Being dragged out to Korea for the BF. Then followed b being proposed on a main stage that is live broadcasted. But hopefully everything went down for the best. Congratulations.
As people have said, if they didn't discuss this before the whole thing then it's basically forcing her to say yes and really awkward and unfortunate.
But considering we can never know, I'll have to take it at face value and act like everything is coolios. Had to mute when this happened though. I was expecting either a proposal or an on air suicide.

She actually looked pretty miserable for a lot of it.

I don't know how you can force someone to say yes unless you threaten her/his life. They haven't signed anything as far as I know. If she doesn't want to marry him, it will just force her to break up right after the show and nobody will know it. That guy probably knew she was going to say yes anyways, and he simply tried to find a cute way to do it.
Proposals like this feel so weird and forced. I'm sure the ones who propose like this know their partner pretty well and there has to be better ways and places to do it in. So goddamn unromantic.
Awww i love proposals ! so romantic <3<3 awww. That's quite special and probably the first ever in e-sports? To propose to someone like that i mean. I know that boxer got married but this :D
Apparently the guy had a sign saying "i would also settle for artosis" In the game right after symbol made a heart with waypoints too was spotted by casters

there been a few. one of the most famous is 2009 blizzcon. grubby proposing to cassandra.
Adorable, although i'm not always in favour of public proposals for obvious reasons like putting pressure on your potential fiancé, etc., assuming she really meant it when she accepted it's really cool :D
Stop with the cynism guys, it's obvious that it was just a cute way to do it. I'm happy for them, and props to Symbol for giving them some hearts afterwards <33

BoxeR didn't marry yet.
Also a reminder to those without GSL tickets: Currently all GSL VODs are free to watch because of the two-year anniversary.
Am I the only one who thinks proposing in public is a dick move? What if they want to say no? Then they look like a dick to everyone. Flashbacks to that raptors basketball game.

oh yeah how could i forget Grubby jesus christ.. my bad!
I really don't like public proposals, unless the girl has given solid hints that she wants to get hitched. It just add too much pressure on her to say yes. I'm glad this turned out well though, and hope they have a long and happy marriage.

it didnt look staged..?
Gom TV wouldn't take a chance on some random person saying they have something to say. It might not have been Gom's idea but they definitely knew about it in advance.

Holy shitsnacks Grubby was on EG???!
I'm more shocked by the fact, that EG's shirt didn't changed at all since 2009 :D
And I put the important part on my youtube for anyone that doesn't have a pass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdWYHcM5k2g All of Yossi and Maya's family really enjoyed watching that.

Yeah, i saw the title, and was not looking forward to it, then seeing the girl cry and say i'm sorry and the dude just look like 'what', and eventually run up the stairs to gtfo... god that's rough.
Edit: ahh so it was staged, still rough, fake or not.. wow.
grats to this guy though. The article even states that he and his now fiancee, enjoyed watching GSL matches together, and went to mok-dong together to see it in person after enjoying said matches in the past. Why is everyone speculating 'awkward' and 'forced'. Chances are they (like myself and most people who are thinking about marriage) have talked about the idea before, and simply are looking for a memorable way to do it. I doubt he and his girly flew to korea specifically FOR the GSL, but was probably part of a korean vacation they planned, and he wanted to do it somewhere public where it could be shared with others.
I personally knew my fiancee hates public displays so I did it on our Japan vacation at nejo castle in the garden when we were allowed 'free time' away from our tour group. It took 3 days before someone noticed the bling on her and announced it to the rest of the group. I think people hypothesizing that this was 'awkward' or 'forced upon her' simply don't know the basis of strong relationships, namely communication.

Their marriage should be commentated by the Koreans as well

Lol. Welp, it's official, Korean commentary in just about any situation makes it epic

One guy proposed in a basketball arena, on the floor in the middle of everything, on TV, and the woman said no. I lol'd.
Unless you have discussed it before and she is ready for it, it´s a pretty awful thing to do really, putting that much pressure on someone when they are making a life changing decision.

Btw, I really don't get why people propose in public. Is it supposed to be romantic? I can sort of see it if it's in front of your family and/or friends, but complete strangers? Why? If I'm ever lucky enough to meet someone I want to get on one knee for, it would be in private. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
She was totally stonefaced throughout but pretty cool nonetheless. As for the people saying it was bad to put her on the spot, couples who actually communicate discuss things like marriage and kids before a ring ever gets bought. The proposal itself isn't the surprise, it's when and how you do it that is.

It's all about throwing away your pride and groveling before the majesty that is your true love. It shows you aren't ashamed to proclaim your love for her and not scared to let the world know. It's not a hard concept to grasp.
Artosis's comments post-proposal was actually just as good if not better than the proposal. I love listening to this guy. He got me into starcraft and he keeps me interested. Artosis, if you were not already taken, I would gladly propose to you...at the GSL.

On the other hand, it gives the girl a perfect non-bitch excuse to back out later.
"Oh, I didn't want to embarrass you, because I love you. But really, I'm not ready yet."

yeah it was really awkward to watch because of her body language but I loved the Korean casters in the background :D
Regarding whether or not this engagement was discussed beforehand, seems like the person to ask would be Noam. He posted that he personally knew them, so asking him would be best

In my experience it's generally pretty obvious when the girl wants to get married.. there are so many 'hints'.

Yes. When you fall in love maybe you will understand...
If you do something like this(or propose in general), you mostly know already that she will say yes, there are enough signs... if you are in the position i think you'll know.
Ofc there are some people who embarrass themselves and set the woman under pressure because there were no signgs, shame on them
