Never seen so much swearing & caps lock in 1 thread, hehe.

to be fucking honest, i see this being bad as of for now, but in the long run i think if this havent happened, kespa will just go back to kill the potential sc2 has....
|
Fairly sure kespa's next move will be even uglier
|
hopefully the cooler heads on both sides, or maybe even a third party like Blizzard or a figurehead like BoxeR can negotiate.
the only solution for both sides is just let the players play. otherwise SC2 is just fucked in Korea.

I thought Blizzard was gonna make a statement? C'mon Morhaime, make yourself useful!

THAT HURTS EVERYONE. why? because kespa players can't catch up quicker. the more they play against people currently better than they are, the quicker they catch up. along with the fact GSL players don't see another side of a pure style of game that they lack. not to mention EVERYONE wants to see the kespa best vs the sc2 best, and it would completely bring unity to the sc community but they don't' want that happening cause they're to prideful.
Actually, I doubt it's caused by the "let our players catch up" reason. I mean, we've all seen WCS Korea, and there are strong signs that they are already at a great level. Though GSL and "1-week-preparation" tournaments are different, I think if the KeSPA players can compete in terms of skill in these kind of matches (WCS) they'll do well in GSL (at least qualifiers and Code A) because they already have the work ethic and organization of these kind of tournaments.
I believe the reason is way more based on money. "Hey, let's have alone all the benefits from the Kespa vs ESF storyline".

Great move, ESF did what had to be done. They hit them when it counts, if they waited to long the GSL players wont have the same status as they do now and can easily be ignored.

I'm not sure what they could do to be "uglier". Their players aren't playing in gsl what more can they do?

Pull their players from the OSL in an act of defiance? LoL.

WoW, I'm happy that I'm not in GomTV or Ongamenets shoes right now. The 2 of them seems to get well along(if you didn't know, GomTV sponsored the last OSL BW tournament, Tving is part og GomTV). This is all meant to combat kespa, but it's not they who are hurt the most

LOL make an OSL go from 8 people left to 0 lmao. (even though OGN works under kespa unless i'm mistaken).

It might hurt Kespa, but GOM will be fine as from what I read korean fans (that watch GSL players anyway) agree with their decision as it's been fairly positive someone said. I dont think thats a reality, if GOM(ESF) risks that much, it means they are threatened already by Kespa players reputation in Korea. Meaning Kespa already leads in Korea, how long GOM will live by foreign votes? What are they risking though? Kespa fucked GOM, so ESF fucked Kespa. Considering ESF has been basically supported by the regular paycheck of GSL, the move makes sense. Mr. Chae (and Artosis on a few SOTGs) has gone on record multiple times saying GSL was basically there to fund teams until they could get real sponsors with Code A and Code S paychecks. What happened was Kespa threw a jab at GOM, and ESF stepped in to tackle them to the ground. Now Kespa has figure out how they're going to get standing again. Can you tell me what they're risking? Especially when Korean fans are uniformly with the ESF decision? They are risking running a league that will be on a constant foreign life support. And foreign esports were never stable resource not as much as Korean one up till some time (Match fixing scandal)
There is possibility Korea will back them up but nothing is certain, risk is involved.

But thumbs up to ESF, show kespa they can't fuck GOM over just like that who actually made the effort to promote sc2.

Needs more giant squid.
Also, for reference, to help avoid confusing the parties involved: GOM is to to eSF what OGN is to Kespa.
