Yes, it affects how I watch the GSL. At this moment I follow the progress of Kespa players in tournaments as my topmost priority of interest. If there's, for example, future MLG event with Kespa players, coinciding with GSL Code A finals, I'd probably watch MLG live and the GSL from VODs.
Kespa have to be very careful with their "shyness" during this period, because they really play with the viewership number and revenue of the tournaments they shy away from. They need English spokesmen and good press explanations in advance when they do unpopular moves like that, or they also gain negative publicity among the fans.
Moreover, I think they are doing a mistake and disservice to their players, when they withdraw them too much from real events. They would learn a lot from failure in those important televised matches. It's okay. It would only help them grow faster and gain their deserved place in the scene sooner. And as soon as they become really good and unstoppable, nobody would care how bad they used to be, the memory of it would even make them look greater.

It's kespa players not wanting to steal the prize money for the poor gsl players on deadbeat teams.. How nice of them.
|
why do you care about a league that never cared foreign fans? just because they have jd and flash?
|
With some of GOM's best now playing in the OSL, I already feel like the GSL is already being replaced. If things like this keep happening GOM has a rough future.
|
lol Kespa. As expected from them I guess.
Doesn't really change anything though, GSL will be the best as always.
|
Will still buy GSL, will NOT watch kespas league, fuck them and the shit they're trying to pull, probably trying to get a firm grip on SC2 like they did in BW.
|
lol i honestly feel like the heads of kespa are like super bitter and really dont want to join sc2, but they have to, and they are doing everything in their power to resist it.
i remember it took them 2 years to finally negoitate a deal with blizzard to play sc2, and its like "ok kespa you are a great organization" but you are not better than moving up to starcraft 2. and here we go again with more kespa bs.
i honestly can not think of a reason as to why they should not play. lol i stayed up till 2 am just to watch jaedong and roro play in the wcs, just because it was them playing sc2 they eventually got knocked out but idgaf it was just exciting seeing them their different flavors for the game.
kespa's bs is eventually gonna catch up to them.

So dumb, korean sc2 scene is already not that big and kespa decides it's in their best interest to keep it split up even though that not only harms them but harms the entire scene and everyone who works in it. Very very dissapointed.

This is a huge misconception (if you mean what I am thinking you mean):
If you mean KeSPA never inviting foreigners or trying to reach out to foreign community, it's because BW was never really that big outside of South Korea.
There were foreign players in OSL (the first OSL, a foreign player won actually).

Plus lots of other current stars playing in OSL. With the addition of them making strides to reach out to the foreign market already. OGN puts on one hell of a show.

What a terrible decision by KesPA. I thought that they realized SC2 was a new game but they still want to play like they're the only game in town

Dick move by Kespa. GSL still the best SC2 league in the world though. Hope that the next GSL, Kespa players will be allowed to play.

This wording makes it seem like there's still a chance they can be seeded into Code A/S. GOM could have easily just said "not participate in GSL Season 4", but they specify the Code A Qualifiers. I wouldn't rule them out completely until we get more clarification. The last paragraph put the nail in the coffin. Its a straw to grasp at for some type of hope sure. However I don't think GOM would release a depression bomb if that was the case. If Kespa was worried about their players image why would they allow them to compete in WCS, but not GSL? Because they dont want to fuck things up with blizzard

Rich history, big profiles, truly professional teams, team support, the most talented players in what they do.
Like you would stop following the NHL just because Gary Bettman and the rest of the clowns doesn't give a shit about the players and fans and would rather go for a lockout.

Even though I'd say a lot of them pretty much have caught up already considering how well they are doing in WCS. Those are some of the best Kespa players though. I think the range in skill of Kespa players is pretty wide right now and not all the teams are ready. Like you said, they probably want to make a splash instead of having 4-5 players making it. OSL is in the making, if now Kespa players will all lose to GOM players it will be disastrous, if 20 Kespa players enter Code A and only like 4 passes it still will be disastrous. So its minimazing the damage.
They are waiting for strategical moment, they can somehow turn the tide, to put it more simply Kespa players being overshadowed by GOM players would be PR fail. And the stakes are high.
Soon we will know why Kespa withdrawed from GSL, maybe they want to improve the proleague experience, or make something new. Whatever it will be the problem with Kespa is that they have bunch of celebrities stripped of their status, for now. If they won't regain their status it may collapse, because there will be no more reason to keep Telecoms, Samsung and other sponsors in the business.
The stakes are just much higher for Kespa than for GOM, and every move will count a specially now.
There is also a different less probable possibility, maybe Kespa players in OSL catched up, and Kespa is confident, so they want to make OSL as a ticket to "BW" scene revival, they want to present OSL / OGN as the place to see "them". And after that succes they will participate in other leagues.
|
Fucking Kespa. Why does GOM keep letting themselves be bullied in this way.
|
What a dick move, they are ok with GSL players playing in OSL, but not with Kespa players playing in GSL, so it's obviously not that they don't want to see their players lose to code s players, but they want hype only for their league, and not for gom's league.
It would be quite interesting if Gom had the power to pull the players out of OSL, but better that doesn't happen.
Still, I know I will not be buying anything from kespa, and will continue watching and supporting gom.
|
They want to kill the GSL, same way they killed the GOMTV Classic back in the BW days. KeSPA is fairly notorious for this shit, after all.

GOM doesn't have that kind of power, they are just a tournament organizer they don't run the ESF teams or control the actions of any of the players in the GSL.
Even if they did have the power that would not help the situation but just hurt the players more.

KESPA, as proven before, do not care for the foreign community. Their money is in television, and the local market.
